Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die! -
Chapter 1155: Internal Voting
Chapter 1155: Chapter 1155: Internal Voting
Don’t worry about how much area Xu Huo can control—if props can’t get close to him, the Special Defense Department is out of options. The effectiveness of firearms against current players is negligible, and for a player like Xu Huo, it goes without saying. If he dares to threaten the Special Defense Department, he must have a full-proof way to deal with a hot weapons siege.
"Unless we can confine him in a relatively enclosed space," a new Director adjusted his glasses, "and then concentrate hot weapons on that area, only then can we minimize our losses."
"That’s right, assuming that condition is met, our losses would indeed be minimal." Another person said with a touch of irony, "But that’s Xu Huo we’re talking about. Do you remember what he was like three months ago? It’s hard to say he will be any worse than those top players we’ve trained, now that three months have passed."
Confine someone like him in an enclosed space? The others aren’t fools!
"What concerns me is another matter," Director Lü spoke: "Is his threat to bomb the security zones real?"
"Such props do exist in the game," Minister Fan said. In fact, the Special Defense Department had already purchased a batch of high-damage props, but the key point is, while Xu Huo dares to use props to bomb them, they can’t do the same.
"Actually, there’s another way." Director Chang interjected at this moment, "but it would be beneath our dignity."
Those sitting around the conference table turned to look at him in unison, most of them already guessing what he meant.
"Using Xu Huo’s family is absolutely out of the question," Minister Fan flatly denied.
Players are not easy to kill, which is a well-known fact, let alone a genius player like Xu Huo. Once he escapes into the game and comes back after a while, who knows what could happen; other regions, Zone 014, can’t control that.
"Then why not just do as he says." A man in the second row wearing a jacket spoke lazily: "It’s not necessarily a bad thing anyway. Some people need to be dealt with. Ordinary people are even more twisted than players, is there no justice left?"
"Tang Shao." Minister Fan issued a warning.
Tang Shao shrugged and zipped his lips with an imaginary zipper.
"What’s the odds for the highest power config group to stand a chance against him?" Minister Fan furthermore asked Director Lü.
Director Lü shook his head, "A conservative estimate would be less than half."
"Even Fifty-Fifty can’t manage it..." Minister Fan paused, "What if we added another group?"
"Minister, we don’t have any Rank-B players," Director Lü reminded.
The elite players selected by the Special Defense Department are usually assigned in three ways: as pioneers to enter instances to acquire strategies, or with instance strategies to elevate the instance’s ranking and speed up clearing them while also providing better guides for later comers, and finally those who quickly level up players using strategies developed jointly by passing players and expert teams.
The first two arrangements are the most difficult and have a higher mortality rate. Still, those who survive against the odds are truly the elite of the elite.
However, there are relatively few of these people since the Special Defense Department cannot afford the cost of obtaining strategies.
The ones selected are highly intelligent talents, the most likely to clear instances efficiently in a short period. But the initial experiments disappointed the Special Defense Department, which is when everyone realized that a sharp mind is only one of the requirements for clearing instances. Proficiency, thought patterns, and psychological quality can all affect the quality of the clearing, especially since many instances do not have a long duration.
Perhaps for some elite players, clearing instances with a low rating isn’t too difficult, but until when can they level up with such low-rated clears—the majority of their current Rank-C players could only level up through accumulating a number of instances.
Xu Huo is clearly not one of these people.
Without an absolute force to suppress, aiming to increase the win rate by adding more Rank-C players?
By then, it might actually prove his point: the leeks are harvested batch by batch.
"Comparing both sides, it seems easier to catch the internal pests," Jiang Qiao said. "At least we won’t have to lose so many lives."
For the Special Defense Department, the death of every Rank-C player is a heartache.
"Can we really bow our heads to just one player?" An older Director with graying hair at the end of the conference table said discontentedly, "It would make us a laughing stock if word got out."
This was exactly where everyone was struggling. The nation stood behind the Special Defense Department—wouldn’t them bowing their heads be the same as the nation bowing down? Aside from the face issue, how could they set such a precedent?
"I don’t think it’s that severe," another person said: "Anyway, he’s still in the security zone. As long as we don’t let him out, what can he do? An individual’s power is ultimately limited; we just need to restrict his freedom."
"He is a Player." Director Chang said: "He hasn’t returned for three months, does he not have a second Return Ticket? I’m afraid if we dare to blockade the security zone, he’ll immediately be able to enter the game, and the next time he comes out, he might not be so easy to talk to."
"If this won’t do and that won’t do, I think we should just do as Tang Shao said, clean up the people within the Special Defense Department," a square-faced man spoke up with a loud voice. "Those people should have been dealt with long ago. The nation is struggling, yet they are doing everything they can to undermine us. In my view, the sooner they’re gone, the better."
"While it’s said that overly clear waters are devoid of fish, the current situation is different. Before Zone 014 fully integrates into the game, national power will continuously wane. Now think about it, if the Special Defense Department is infiltrated and those people gain power, by then, whether they attempt to overthrow the Special Defense Department or we take action, we might have to pay a hefty price."
"And to speak bluntly, by that time, will we still be sitting here?"
Of the forty-something people sitting here today, aside from the original dozen or so Directors, one-third of the newly appointed Directors are Players, and half of the Deputy Directors are Players. This actually signifies that ordinary people are compromising with Players, even though ordinary people still hold the highest power for now.
But what about the future? If no Player stands out within their families, they might not even have a place to stand!
Whether they are ordinary people or Players, good people must rise to power so that those below can lead good lives.
Therefore, there are currently three sentiments within the Special Defense Department: one is to restrain Xu Huo, another is to focus on handling internal affairs, and the third is to address both—restrict Xu Huo and sort out their own people.
After all, the impact one person can have is limited. The Special Defense Department can comply with Xu Huo’s demands for an internal investigation, but regarding the extent of the investigation and what explanation can be given to the public is negotiable. Xu Huo is just a player who has heard rumors from other half-informed players; in such a short time, how much can he really know about the internal situation?
"Public decision." Minister Fan finally said: "Directors in favor of self-investigation, please raise your hands, including the Deputy Directors."
