Chapter 1131: Chapter 1131: Test within the Safe Zone
"Ah...ah..." The long-haired man let out a muffled scream of terror and attempted to raise his hand. His companions, noticing his mouth agape and his stillness, approached to call out to him. But as soon as one touched his shoulder, a crack was heard—his jaw had dislocated!
With his jaw dislocated, the long-haired man’s mouth seemed to open even wider. His eyes were filled with terror as tears slowly welled up at the corners.
In this state, no one with eyes could possibly consider it normal. His companions did not intend to share his misfortune and immediately retreated to observe the situation.
Sima Xiao’er and the others were unsure about what was going on, but they were not foolish enough to step forward and help.
Thus, more than a dozen people in both ends of the corridor simply watched as the long-haired man’s mouth appeared to be pried open, first his jaw dislocated, then the corners of his mouth cracked open, accompanied by the agonizing sound of tearing flesh and skin. His head was ripped in half from the lips upwards—when the upper part of his skull flew off, it almost petrified everyone present!
They were in the safe zone, not some dungeon venue. Even when cornered, they could leave using tickets. This bolstered the audacity of those who dared to invade. Yet, there the long-haired man stood, seemingly coherent and then, just stood there, torn apart alive?
It had a more shocking impact than if he had been brutally murdered right before their eyes!
"Who is it! Hiding in the shadows! If you dare, come out and face us..." Immediately following, the man who spoke found his mouth wouldn’t close either. It was as if a pair of invisible hands were jammed in his mouth, similarly ripping his head in half.
This scared the remaining three players witless. The more unknown the threat, the more terrifying it is. They knew neither whether the assailant was from Ting City Special Defense Department nor from Jing City, yet with their faces unseen, there were two deaths, both Level D players, with no chance to resist. This suggested the assailant was on an entirely different level!
"Could be a Rank-B player!" The remaining three exchanged glances, seeing in each other’s eyes a mutual desire to retreat. But when they reached for their tickets, they found them to be ineffective!
"How could this be...!" A hard sense of dread fell over their faces. Without time to think, they turned to run, but regrettably, they only managed to turn before being frozen in place. Like the previous two, they stood rigid, arms and legs dangling, as their tightly shut mouths slowly opened...
Succumbing before their heads could split, player number three collapsed to the ground with eyes rolling back, his dismal screams echoing dully.
"Thought they had the guts; it turns out they fainted from fear." Sima Xiao’er hurried over to take advantage of the situation, injecting each with a specially formulated Muscle Relaxant—currently the least expensive way to control players in Zone 014. Once injected, the players would be too weak to flee to the station.
"Drag them to the laboratory," Sima Xiao’er ordered a few people, instructing, "Once inside, make sure to hook them up to the drip. Don’t let the Muscle Relaxant run out; we can’t have them escaping."
His colleagues hesitated, "We still don’t understand what just happened. What if the incident targeted the safe zone as well?"
"If it were really aimed at us, we wouldn’t all be unscathed till now. Two dead, three unconscious—it’s obvious they came to help." Sima Xiao’er looked over at the detention room door, "Alright, enough chatter, get moving."
Since they too were perplexed by the situation, they followed the safe zone’s directives accordingly.
After his colleagues left, Sima Xiao’er approached the door, shrewdly stating, "Brother Xu, thanks for earlier. Are you feeling better? If you are, could you take care of the people outside too?"
No response came from the detention room—it’s common for speech to be unheard through the door. However, since Xu Huo had previously unlocked the door when delivering dumplings, Sima Xiao’er assumed he could hear.
Not receiving a response was no cause for disappointment. He sat at the entrance and added, "Brother Xu, if you have anything to say, just speak up."
Xu Huo didn’t want to converse with anyone at the moment.
Firstly, his body was not yet free of poison, which indeed affected his mental state.
Secondly, he had released the Cubic Space and was conducting tests.
In the high-risk instance, he had only attempted simple manipulations with his Psychic Power in conjunction with the Cubic Space and had not fully utilized its potential. Therefore, he was unclear about the full extent of the Cubic Space and the limit of the materials he could control. Conveniently, the walls and floors of the safe zone were constructed from special metals purchased from the game, which he considered apt for experimentation.
Back in Xiaohe City, Mr. Kang had fortified his and other players’ rooms with special metal to counteract the Chaotic Space Rays emanating from the Kong Family’s cubic space. This method proved effective, so while the Cubic Space could navigate through the metal walls using Spatial Power, it wasn’t assumed that it could bypass any and all obstructions.
Currently, it seemed the metal structures of the safe zone’s walls and floors could not hinder the power of the Cubic Space. Plus, he could discern a noticeable difference between the metal walls and the density of the spatial rays in the void, establishing the interaction was still limited and couldn’t just tunnel through various substances to form a direct path.
Of course, this was something he knew from the high-risk instance. The only distinction was that the more complex the spatial layout, the more it seemed to influence the Cubic Space’s performance, reducing his accurate sensing range from around five hundred meters to approximately three hundred fifty meters.
After expelling another mouthful of mycelium, Xu Huo wiped his mouth, caught his breath, and then tried to directly control the rays connected to the objects. Regrettably, while he could change the state of the spatial channels, he couldn’t affect those on the objects themselves.
Meaning, he couldn’t directly alter the state of an object. However, he could manipulate small and light items through practice, resembling a rudimentary version of telekinesis, though it appeared clumsy and sluggish.
This resembled using Spatial Rays to form a barrier; he essentially created an external mechanism to remotely maneuver objects without truly affecting the rays within them. This was starkly different from Bai Kou, who could directly control distant objects through space without any Prop, a world apart in capability.
However, during the high-risk instance, he felt there was something peculiar about the Cubic Space. It had a stable spatial venue of its own but didn’t affect the compatibility with other Space-Time Items. Moreover, it could be used in any venue without destabilizing structures like buildings, seemingly more suitable for being employed over a particular site.
He was yet to ascertain the extent of the area that Mr. Kang could control while possessing the Cubic Space, and whether this was related to the time rules within this Prop.
During the prior week, there had been no acceleration of time within the Cubic Space.
