Chapter 1129: Give Some Face
Chapter 1129: Chapter 1129: Give Some Face
There was no need to say for the likes of Sima Xiao’er; the moment Dai Wenqian threw them off, they followed immediately. However, upon rushing into the room, what they had anticipated did not happen—they had assumed Dai Wenqian planned to take advantage of the vulnerable, but he stopped just two or three meters away from the door and stood there straight, without any intention of making a move.
Sima Xiao’er and his group were on guard against him, fearing a sudden underhanded strike, but only Dai Wenqian himself knew that he wouldn’t, and dared not make a move. From the moment he stepped through the door, he felt as if he were in extreme heat and cold, the threat of death making his soul tremble and uncontrollably causing him to sweat profusely; instinctively, he realized—if he dared to take another step forward, death would be his only fate!
And all this was merely because Xu Huo had glanced at him.
The prop glasses he wore now displayed the calculation result, cordially presenting before his eyes:
"Based on the combat power of known individuals, your chances of victory are 0.01%. For the sake of your life safety, it is recommended that you abandon any illusions and run away immediately."
Dai Wenqian took a deep breath, greeted Xu Huo with a smile, "Mr. Xu, we meet again. Chief Wu asked me to inquire if there is anything you need."
Xu Huo’s chest and the space around his feet were splattered with black liquid, with parts of the mycelium mixed within already dried up, though more was freshly layered on top, about the thickness of a palm. As Dai Wenqian spoke, Xu Huo spat out another mouthful.
There were several handkerchiefs already discarded on the floor, and Xu Huo took out a new one to wipe his mouth, his movements and complexion looking equally weak.
Dai Wenqian couldn’t believe that facing Xu Huo in such a condition, his odds of winning were still only 0.01%. He wondered what sort of fortuitous encounters Xu Huo had experienced over the past three months.
Xu Huo ignored the man in front of him whose eyes and face were filled with the word "jealousy," leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes, "I have no dealings with you, the fact you’re still alive and able to stand here and talk to me is a face I’m giving to Chief Wu. To kill someone from the Special Defense Department on his turf, he’d have trouble explaining..."
With this, he opened his eyes and looked at Dai Wenqian, "You can go now, and make sure you never appear in front of me again."
An offhand remark, yet it carried an oppressive force. Not only Dai Wenqian, but even Sima Xiao’er and those beside him felt it, and they slowly retreated towards the door, their scalps tingling.
Dai Wenqian didn’t even dare to turn his back, his eyes fixed on Xu Huo, backing out step by step, closing the door just as it was opened.
When they came out, Chief Wu had already arrived, angrily pointing at Dai Wenqian, "This is Ting City, not your territory; ignoring superior orders to barge into a forbidden area, what are you trying to do?!"
Director Chang stepped in to mediate for Dai Wenqian, promptly uttering good words on his behalf. However, this time Chief Wu was not buying any of it, saying, "Old Chang, we’re friends, I won’t comment much on the way you do things. But we are all well aware of what Dai Wenqian has done privately; abusing his power to seize others’ props is not new, and now that the Special Defense Department really needs manpower, you better keep a tight leash on him!"
Anyone with eyes could see what Dai Wenqian was plotting. With such people around, how could someone like Xu Huo possibly do work for the Special Defense Department?
Director Chang knew it well but still sighed, "Old Wu, if the water is too clear, there will be no fish."
Let alone now with the widespread of players, such things were not uncommon internally before, and even worse cases existed. It is an unavoidable situation under any system, and Dai Wenqian was actually quite restrained.
Chief Wu huffed, "I don’t care what he does elsewhere, but it’s not acceptable for him to overreach into my territory!"
"Since it’s not convenient to open the safety zone today, I’ll have someone take you to the hotel."
Director Chang took a deep look at the door of the containment room and then left with his group, and Jiang Qiao also tactfully said goodbye.
Chief Wu’s anger had not subsided, and he scolded Sima Xiao’er and his group, "What are you doing, letting such a big guy in without stopping him!"
Sima Xiao’er and the group looked dejected, but indeed, they had no choice. They were all still Level E Players, whereas Dai Wenqian had already advanced to Level D.
Chief Wu was well aware of this and said with dissatisfaction, "Devious intentions, no matter the talent, will lead to trouble sooner or later."
Upon locking down the safety zone, he called over twelve players from the Special Defense Department to stand guard outside the containment room, not allowing anyone to approach, for fear of complications arising. He also stayed, joining the players in the corridor.
"Chief, do you think Brother Xu has already advanced to Rank-C?" Sima Xiao’er quietly asked him, "Just now, I saw Dai Wenqian was clearly scared out. Did you see his face? He didn’t even dare to turn his back on Brother Xu, looking quite ugly."
Chief Wu glared at him, "If you had gone to Jing City, maybe you’d have been at Level D by now."
Previously within the Special Defense Department, a group was selected for training, led by top elites to pioneer the instances, and after clearing them to record strategies, this chosen group went to farm instances. Instead of a once-a-month instance, they would enter at least twice, and sometimes three times a month, artificially boosting to Level D in a short time while constantly updating strategies for the instance.
That’s why the Special Defense Department now has a sizable group of Level D Players, and Dai Wenqian was one of the beneficiaries.
Sima Xiao’er was originally scheduled to move to Jing City with Nie Xuan, but after Nie Xuan became a director and returned to Ting City, his jurisdiction included but was not limited to Ting City. Technically speaking, he was still superior to Chief Wu, and Sima Xiao’er came back with him. However, he wasn’t a man of great ambition; having returned, he settled down comfortably, making do with strategies for Level E instances and coasting through life.
"The instances are too dangerous, I don’t want to go," Sima Xiao’er waved his hands dismissively, "I wish I could stay a Level E Player forever. Did you see those who frequently enter the instances? If they’re not missing arms or legs, they’re throwing up a couple ounces of blood daily. Sometimes the strategies are not accurate either, and a little inattention could cost them their lives. I’m quite good with logistics, helping out the chief."
Seeing Sima Xiao’er’s joking and laughing demeanor, Chief Wu had no choice but to suppress his anger, "Well, not everyone is suitable for entering instances."
Sima Xiao’er laughed and indicated he would pass on the news to Nie Xuan.
Not long after, people from Jing City arrived, bringing the necessary materials along with Professor Lan who had witnessed Xu Huo’s Spirit Evolution in Hua City, as well as Tang Guangbo who was still responsible for providing psychological counseling for players, a professional medical team along with medical equipment, ready to perform surgery at any moment.
"How is Xu Huo?" Tang Guangbo asked with polite concern.
