Chapter 1110: Chapter 1110: Bring Out Some Real Stuff
Jiang and Zheng still found it hard to believe, as this completely overturned their understanding of the high-risk instance.
"I still can’t believe this is man-made," Zheng Da said.
"If it’s not man-made, the only other possibility is that there’s something wrong with Xiaohe City," Xu Huo said. "Though it doesn’t fit with the overall environment of the high-risk instance, it’s not entirely impossible that such a city actually exists here."
"But this brings us back to my previous question. Given the risk of ’disappearance’ in Xiaohe City, with dozens of people, why can’t they simply relocate? Even using a prop for the location could solve the problem."
"It can’t be that you are reluctant to leave the non-Players in Xiaohe City, right?"
This argument seemed rational, but Jiang Wenzhang still countered: "Since we have found ways to mitigate the risks, staying inside Xiaohe City is actually the safest option."
"That’s also reasonable," Xu Huo said. "But I am more curious why the rules of this high-risk instance only target Players."
Jiang Wenzhang had no rebuttal; they had tried bringing ordinary people into the business building before, but even when disappearances occurred, Players were still the most affected.
Of course, Xu Huo’s speculation that the disappearances were related to the Players was not just based on these points, but also on an indirect piece of evidence, which was Mr. Kang’s insistence on linking the disappearances with external Players.
These two issues are actually not closely related. Even if there is some connection, it’s not significant for either the Players of Xiaohe City or external Players; this so-called cause-and-effect relationship can neither justify using external Players as cannon fodder by default for Xiaohe City’s Players, nor does it serve as a prerequisite for hostility from external Players towards Xiaohe City’s Players—just the fact that Players are disappearing is enough to set the two sides against each other.
The only explanation for deliberately establishing such a cause-and-effect relation must be to cover up some truths.
Why is Xiaohe City different from other places in the high-risk instance?
Why do disappearances occur periodically?
Does being unaffected by Chaotic Space after leaving Xiaohe City prove that one could start afresh and build a new base?
These questions will eventually be scrutinized, and once scrutinized, the cause will be traced back to insiders.
The composition of Players in Xiaohe City is not static; newly arrived Players will definitely go through this psychological process, initially suspecting the existing Xiaohe City Players, just like Xu Huo and Guan Shu did on their first night suspecting that the disappearances were orchestrated by Xiaohe City Players.
If the event of spatial chaos was separated from the high-risk instance itself, the unique time regulation within Xiaohe City would also arise suspicion, though Black Rain can be confused with hunger induced by temporal issues within Xiaohe City, but unusually fast hair and nail growth is unmistakably conspicuous. Moreover, recent Players staying for about twenty days before suddenly disappearing makes it hard not to suspect.
Similarly, if one could deduce from the disappearances of newly arrived Players and Zheng Da and others falsifying corpses to recreate the illusion of Chaotic Space reoccurring, then the idea that "Chaotic Space exists within the instance itself" could also be questioned.
Certainly, because issues of hunger can be mixed up, and given Mr. Kang’s along with Jiang Wenzhang and others’ concealment or interference with time, "issues with Xiaohe City’s timing" are even harder to isolate.
As the saying goes, disappearances for Players in Xiaohe City are an unknown risk, even if certain risk avoidance conditions are known, but Players in Xiaohe City still disappear; compared to known risks, choosing unknown risks appears illogical to Xu Huo.
Of course, people like Jiang Wenzhang make compromises, yet Mr. Kang does not seem like that kind of person.
Zheng Da frowned, deeply pondering for a while, "I still don’t understand, if there’s no link, what’s the use of blaming external Players?"
Xu Huo looked towards Jiang Wenzhang.
Jiang Wenzhang glared at Zheng Da angrily, "Are you an idiot? If someone deliberately makes us believe this is a rule of the high-risk instance, would you go on to scrutinize the rules of the instance?"
After catching his breath and lowering his head slightly, he added, "This matter doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Originally, I only started cooperating with Mr. Kang after discovering the difference between Xiaohe City’s time and the outside world. I have considered why he wouldn’t abandon a place where both time and space are chaotic, entertained various speculations, but I never thought it might be because he is manipulating it."
"I can’t figure it out, time in Xiaohe City moves faster than outside, even if Players have longer lifespans, staying in the city still effectively reduces their remaining lifespan to a quarter, and he never leaves Xiaohe City. What reason could possibly make him stay?"
"Isn’t it to establish a nation?" Zheng Da chimed in, "Once the nation is established, we will be the supreme rulers, and having a few thousand people to play with wouldn’t be bad."
Jiang Wenzhang took a deep breath and ignored him, instead turning his gaze to Xu Huo.
"People make choices either actively or passively, perhaps he was compelled?" Xu Huo said lightly.
"If he truly had the ability to control a city, why say he was compelled?" Jiang Wenzhang didn’t believe it.
"Really?" Xu Huo asked meaningfully, "Does he really control the city?"
Jiang Wenzhang paused, and several seconds later, an enlightened expression appeared on his face as he murmured, "So that’s how it is... that’s how it is..."
"What exactly is going on?" Zheng Da couldn’t help but press.
Jiang Wenzhang ignored him, and as Zheng Da struggled a bit more to say something, his eyes suddenly widened, then his head drooped down.
Xu Huo killed him.
At the same time, he stood up, smiling at Jiang Wenzhang, "Let’s end our discussion about Mr. Kang here."
Jiang Wenzhang forced a smile, "The topics we discussed just now weren’t much linked to Mr. Kang’s personal information, let me live and I’ll definitely tell you all about his frequently used props and information about Gong Jiaji and a few others!"
Xu Huo was unconvinced.
"It’s absolutely true, I can really tell you!" Jiang Wenzhang hurriedly said, "Otherwise, how will you handle a few Rank-B Players? Since we are all hiding in the high-risk instance, will they know the truth and help you instead?"
"Maybe, maybe not," Xu Huo said slowly, "I see that many Players within Xiaohe City trust him a lot, obeying someone might be under compulsion, but trust requires some real skills."
"Do you think you alone are enough?" Jiang Wenzhang rapidly said, "You need at least a few helpers, right? Your companions are still trapped within my Characteristics, without me removing that auxiliary prop, they will find it difficult to regain consciousness..."
Xu Huo looked at him with a half-smile, "No need to repeat those little tricks, besides, Mr. Kang also controlled Xiaohe City before you arrived, which means he also likely possesses props or Characteristics that can interfere with Players’ mental states. Oh, he’s a Cannibal Player, so the likelihood of using props is even higher."
"If you want to live, bring out some real stuff."
