Chapter 1101 Acting So Good
Chapter 1101: Chapter 1101 Acting So Good
Zhou Yuanzhu didn’t understand why he was so insistent on this mushroom, so she asked, "Do we really have to eat it?"
"It’s either you eat it, or I eat it," Xu Huo said to her, meaning to give her a choice.
Zheng Da and Jiang Wenzhang exchanged a look discreetly, but Xu Huo suddenly turned back to look at them, "Mr. Zheng and the others must have already gotten used to it, eating more won’t make a difference."
"But eating things here doesn’t necessarily relieve hunger," Zhou Yuanzhu muttered, and still followed his instruction, choosing the lesser of two evils.
She closed her eyes, stuffed a mouthful of mushrooms, and couldn’t help but comment, "The taste is actually pretty good."
"That’s good," Xu Huo didn’t rush to check the results, instead, he discussed with Zheng Da about how to get back.
The car was gone; walking back would take at least two days, not to mention the possibility of encountering alien attacks during the journey.
"We have to walk a distance before we get into the communication network range to contact the city for a car," said Zheng Da.
Xu Huo nodded, "Then let’s start walking, there are aliens everywhere here, they might return any moment."
"No, we can’t leave yet," Zheng Da said, "The matter with the Variant Cub isn’t settled yet, without the cub, the Different Species Group might encircle the city."
"Capture alive?" Xu Huo looked at them, "If it’s about capturing alive, I might not be able to help. I was injured by a stone just now, and you all know, I already had injuries before, old wounds compounded by new ones, it probably won’t heal anytime soon."
As he said, his face was indeed very pale, even speaking was somewhat breathless, but believing him was another story!
"We need to capture it," Jiang Wenzhang tactfully said, "But we don’t have to risk taking it away, just feed it a slow-acting poison, ensuring it will kill around the time of the Alien tide."
"So that’s the plan," Xu Huo looked towards Wang Mo and the others, "Has anyone succeeded?"
"In such a short time, we haven’t found any cubs yet," Zhao Xiaofang said.
Xu Huo took out the map they gave him, "None of these nests?"
"Wasn’t it buried?" Cao Zheng said, "Where do we find them now? We might have to go even farther, but considering the noise just now, the adult aliens may have moved the cubs."
That would make them even harder to find.
"What do you plan to do?" Xu Huo expressed understanding.
"How can just a few of us move forward?" Wang Mo said, "The advantage of sneaking in is gone, the aliens might have all gathered."
"If we linger longer, we might end up not catching any cubs and even lose our lives."
"Why not go back and get others to come?" Zhao Xiaofang also suggested.
Xu Huo and Zhou Yuanzhu clearly weren’t going to help, intending to use the aliens to get rid of them, Jiang Wenzhang probably miscalculated, at this point, he could only say, "Then let’s turn back."
The group used props, climbing up the cliff with various methods, using flying devices to rush back.
They were equipped with small flying devices, and the energy source was purchased on the spot, so to save, they could only stop at intervals.
During a break, Xu Huo inquired about Zhou Yuanzhu’s condition.
"I don’t feel anything special," Zhou Yuanzhu said, "I’m not poisoned, but my hunger isn’t relieved either."
"Why must I be the one to try these mushrooms?"
Xu Huo’s purpose was merely to test if the food in the instance could relieve the feeling of hunger, and now he had his definite answer.
Zhou Yuanzhu couldn’t help but look towards Zheng Da and others who were eating, noticing they were just having regular dry food.
Xu Huo noticed as well. Though he guessed the hunger felt by the players of Xiaohe City might be different from touching the Black Rain, the amount of food they had was clearly not enough unless the filtered water could eliminate hunger. Otherwise, nutrient supplements were the only option.
The nutrients sold in the game could temporarily substitute for food. Long-term consumption wasn’t good for the players’ health, but for these people of Xiaohe City, whether their evolution rate increased was no longer that important.
Xu Huo checked the time and rested for a bit before they set off again.
Probably because of the loud noise from a previous rock collapse, there were quite a number of Different Species active nearby. During that period, Jiang Wenzhang was bitten by a poisonous snake, and Xu Huo gave him an antitoxin.
Until drinking the antitoxin, Jiang Wenzhang had been suspicious of his intentions, but afterward, it turned out Mr. Zheng next to him started suspecting him—Mr. Zheng’s previous accusation about him stealing the Secondary Stone wasn’t clear yet, and now he evidently suspected that he was in cahoots with Xu Huo.
Jiang Wenzhang was of course suspicious of Xu Huo as well, but turning against him had no benefits at the moment, so all he could say was, "Mr. Xu, I truly admire you."
"It’s just a bottle of antitoxin," Xu Huo said with a smile, displaying a demeanor of ’doing good without seeking recognition.’
It was Cao Zheng who slapped Jiang Wenzhang on the shoulder, "You’re lucky, if Mr. Xu wasn’t heading the same way as us, your life couldn’t have been saved!"
Jiang Wenzhang gave him a forced smile.
The discord between the two was apparent to any keen observer.
In fact, other than Zheng Da, others didn’t get along with him much, and even when he was poisoned, the others only symbolically fetched an antitoxin bottle.
"This guy doesn’t mix well," Zhou Yuanzhu murmured to Xu Huo, though everyone could hear it.
As it was getting dark, they passed by a big river and decided to rest there.
"Many Different Species are active at night, it’s safer to set off again tomorrow morning," Zhao Xiaofang told Zhou Yuanzhu.
The area near the big river wasn’t really safe, so they each had to choose a big tree, use insect repellent to clean it up a bit and just lean on the branches to sleep.
At midnight, Zheng Da stealthily slid down from his tree, ready to sneak away, but before he could leave the grove, Xu Huo appeared in front of him, smiling and said, "Mr. Zheng, got up to pee?"
Zheng Da’s eyes uncontrollably glanced up at the tree, then he used a Muffler Artefact before speaking, "Is the person in the Alien Nest you? You and Jiang Wenzhang teamed up, right? Can you guys really handle such a big Secondary Stone?"
"Don’t say I didn’t warn you, Jiang Wenzhang isn’t as harmless as he seems on the surface. He’s best at manipulating and sowing discord, and is highly loyal to Mr. Kang. If the Secondary Stone falls into his hands, he surely won’t share it with you."
In the illusion concocted by Xu Huo, it was Jiang Wenzhang who acted first and seized the Secondary Stone, leaving Zheng Da not getting anything in the aftermath.
However, influencing Jiang Wenzhang wasn’t an easy task, so Xu Huo didn’t put much effort there; what he witnessed was the reality—Zheng Da inexplicably attacking him and demanding the Secondary Stone.
"Secondary Stone?" Xu Huo feigned surprise, "You found a Secondary Stone? There’s a Secondary Stone here?"
Zheng Da was left with only a cold sneer: With such good acting, why don’t you become an actor?
