Chapter 622: Chapter 622: Drowning Sorrows

"..." Chen Wei waited outside the door for nearly fifteen minutes before he finally heard the sound of the door lock being opened from behind.

Glancing back, he saw that Shen Junlan had changed out of the wedding dress and into casual clothes.

Even in casual attire, it couldn’t hide her impressive figure and graceful posture.

Her face still flushed from the earlier incident, added several degrees of charm to Shen Junlan’s entire being.

If Chen Wei had to point out a pity, it was that Shen Junlan was not wearing glasses as she usually did.

Perhaps because of the engagement ceremony, she had chosen to wear contact lenses, which lacked a certain flavor.

If she had been wearing glasses, Chen Wei remembered, there was a popular term on the internet recently, called "pure desire."

Then, the glasses version of Shen Junlan would undoubtedly become the ceiling of "pure desire"!

"That... Mr. Chen, let’s hurry downstairs, I’ve made a reservation." Aware of Chen Wei’s unabashed gaze, Shen Junlan’s cheeks grew even hotter, and she mustered the courage to speak, her voice trembling slightly.

Chen Wei saying something would have been fine, but his silent staring pushed Shen Junlan’s shyness to the extreme, making her wish she could immediately find a crack in the ground to crawl into.

"Okay," Chen Wei nodded in agreement, walking ahead and intentionally turning his back to Shen Junlan.

He thought this might ease her discomfort somewhat,

Especially after what had just happened.

As for Chen Wei, he had "feasted" his eyes – for a woman...

The two of them entered the elevator together.

After mulling it over, Chen Wei decided to break the silence, "That, I’m sorry, I didn’t anticipate the wedding dress would have that kind of design, making you..."

Chen Wei had barely started speaking when Shen Junlan abruptly turned, lifting her delicate hand, intending to cover his mouth.

But then she felt that it wasn’t right to do so, she withdrew her hand and interrupted, "No! It’s not your fault, Mr. Chen, you shouldn’t worry about it. No one could have foreseen that, it was just an accident."

"Rather, I should apologize for you seeing me like that, it must have been an eyesore, right?" Shen Junlan’s mind felt feverish, and she didn’t know what nonsense she was spouting.

Her mouth seemed to move on its own accord.

"How could that be? Your figure is very good, you should be more confident in yourself." Maybe it was because he had been holed up at home too long for his creative work, lacking in personal interactions.

Chen Wei always felt that Shen Junlan was not very fond of interacting with people; while not exactly awkward, she was not much better.

Of course, in work mode, her projection was perfect.

But normal interactions seemed somewhat lacking.

Chen Wei clearly remembered how averse she was to forming any relationship with him when they first met...

"Is that so?" Hearing this from Chen Wei, Shen Junlan placed her hand over her chest, feeling a huge relief, and sighed deeply.

Seeing her looking much more relaxed, Chen Wei didn’t ask further, to avoid making things even more awkward.

Just then, the elevator door opened with a ding.

"Let’s go," Chen Wei gestured, allowing Shen Junlan to go first.

"Mhm." Shen Junlan nodded, stepping out of the elevator in sneakers and into the dining hall.

"Are you Miss Shen?" The manager, who had been waiting, confirmed Shen Junlan’s identity.

After all, Shen Junlan had reserved a VIP spot, which had to be treated seriously.

"Yes." Shen Junlan took out her phone, performed a few operations, and then showed the reservation confirmation to the manager.

"Very well, please follow me," the manager said, stepping aside with a gesture, raising his gloved hand.

Chen Wei and Shen Junlan exchanged glances and walked side by side, following the manager to their seats and sat down.

"So, Miss Shen, you’ve previously reserved our signature set meal. Would you like to make any changes or note any preferences?" the manager asked further.

"I don’t need it, Mr. Chen, how about you?" Shen Junlan tossed the question to Chen Wei.

Noticing the manager’s gaze turning toward them, Chen Wei shook his head, "I don’t need it either, please serve the dishes as soon as possible."

"Certainly, please give us a moment, I’ll urge the kitchen to serve your dishes promptly," said the manager before stepping away.

From start to finish, his behavior was the epitome of what it meant to be a gentleman.

Clearly, he had reached his position through merit, not through backdoor channels.

"Mr. Chen, what do you think of the ambiance here? Are you satisfied?" Shen Junlan worried that her chosen location might not meet Chen Wei’s expectations.

"I think it’s quite nice, and the service attitude is good too," Chen Wei responded.

"That’s good to hear," Shen Junlan patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Actually, you shouldn’t feel so pressured, I am still the person you knew before, and I won’t change because of this title," Chen Wei’s earlier display made Shen Junlan feel very uncomfortable.

"Is that so? I, I’ll try my best," Shen Junlan knew her behavior was strange, but whenever she thought of Chen Wei’s identity as the Heavenly God of Protecting the Country.

Furthermore, having seen with her own eyes how the mighty War God, Ye Zhentian, behaved so subserviently before Chen Wei.

Shen Junlan simply couldn’t control her thoughts.

One minute...

Five minutes...

Ten minutes...

Time flew by.

The dishes were served quickly.

Pop!

The cork was pulled out.

Red wine wasn’t originally included in the meal, but Shen Junlan added it later, thinking that drinking a little might help her loosen up.

She herself could hardly stand the atmosphere any longer.

She wanted to return to their former way of interaction with Chen Wei.

Mutual appreciation and acknowledgement, that’s all, without any disparity in status or social gap.

"So, Mr. Chen, cheers," Shen Junlan took the initiative to raise her glass.

"Alright, cheers," Chen Wei set aside his knife and fork, picking up his glass.

After lightly clinking glasses with Shen Junlan, he drained the wine in his glass.

The wine had a nice texture, and one could taste that it was aged and quite mellow.

After finishing his drink, Chen Wei noticed that Shen Junlan had already downed several glasses one after another, not knowing how many she had drunk.

He was about to advise her that the wine’s alcohol content was not low, and drinking so much could lead to drunkenness.

But seeing Shen Junlan’s behavior, it was obvious that she wanted to drown her sorrows.

Chen Wei saw through it but didn’t point it out, choosing to keep silent and close his mouth.

He began to enjoy the delicious food before him.

After a few minutes, he looked again and saw that the bottle of wine had been almost completely emptied by Shen Junlan alone.

Her cheeks were flush with a drunken red, spreading a charming rosiness.

This appearance of wavering between drunkenness and sobriety, along with the slightly disheveled hair beside her ears, gave her a different kind of beauty and charm.

From the stolen glances of many people around, it was not hard to see that this was the case.

"Mr. Chen, may I ask you a question?" Shen Junlan put down her wine glass, suddenly lifted her clear, autumnal eyes, and looked directly at Chen Wei, asking.
