Chapter 425: Chapter 425: Making Zhao Xinlian a Servant
Even someone who didn’t understand could tell at a glance, and it couldn’t deceive anyone.
The professionalism and strength that Chen Wei possessed were not ones that could easily be feigned, and even those award-winning actors, in Zhao Xinlian’s opinion, couldn’t deceive her discerning eyes.
"All done," Chen Wei pressed the enter key, and the program code began to run. As his fingers left the keyboard, he said.
All done?
"That’s it?" The entire process was much faster than Zhao Xinlian had expected.
At first, she had no idea it was such a simple matter, solved with just a few quick taps on the keyboard.
But after giving it some thought, Zhao Xinlian realized she had the wrong perception.
It was because of Chen Wei’s powerful computer skills that the task seemed simple, which led her to the illusion that it was indeed an easy task.
If it were really that simple, how could Ning Meng, who was hailed as a genius hacker, have failed to resolve it?
She glanced sideways at Chen Wei.
This guy was indeed hiding his cards well!
Zhao Xinlian grew increasingly curious about how much Chen Wei was still keeping from her, and why he felt the need to hide these things.
But it wasn’t appropriate to ask directly.
"Or what? Should I have delayed more to make it look complex and charge you extra?" Chen Wei glanced sideways at her, met Zhao Xinlian’s gaze and joked half-seriously.
"No, that’s not what I meant," Zhao Xinlian shook her head to explain and eventually leaned forward to grab the mouse, beginning to review the data documents that were restored one by one, opening one of them and comparing it, gradually becoming amazed, "That’s right! Absolutely right! These are indeed the evidence of their corruption!"
"Great, with this evidence, I’m sure we can take them down!" No matter how unpleasant things had been before, at that moment, Zhao Xinlian was truly grateful to Chen Wei.
"You’re sure that this data is real and will be useful, right?" Chen Wei asked for confirmation again and again.
"Yes, that’s right, it’s all real," Zhao Xinlian nodded in response, not catching on to the implication behind Chen Wei’s questioning.
"Good," Chen Wei sprawled on the couch, looking comfortable, and glanced toward the kitchen, "Go make me a cup of tea, I’m a bit thirsty now."
"Make tea? Why should I make tea for you?" No one had ever dared order Zhao Xinlian around in such a tone before, which made her instinctively retort.
"Have you forgotten what you promised me before? You said you would agree to whatever condition I proposed, and you wouldn’t resist no matter what I did. Otherwise, may lightning strike you down, and may you never find peace after death."
Fearing that Zhao Xinlian had forgotten her promise, Chen Wei even took out his phone to play the recording he had made of her words.
"You, you even recorded it!" Zhao Xinlian reached out, trying to grab the phone, not because she wanted to break the promise, but merely because she felt too embarrassed.
"How could I not keep some evidence?" Chen Wei pulled his arm back, out of Zhao Xinlian’s reach.
Zhao Xinlian, with one hand on the back of the sofa and the other reaching for the phone, was nearly fully pressing down on Chen Wei.
This was an angle Chen Wei had never seen before, and it was precisely because of this angle that he realized Zhao Xinlian’s assets were indeed impressive!
The night the incident happened so suddenly, he was too caught up in the moment to feel much else.
"Hurry up, I’m still thirsty," Chen Wei urged.
"I’ll go! I’ll go, okay? Just turn off the recording, isn’t it embarrassing?" Zhao Xinlian rolled her eyes.
Then she got up and headed toward the kitchen, murmuring, "It’s just one cup of tea."
"Hey!" Chen Wei immediately spoke up to correct, "This matter can’t be resolved with just a cup of tea, from now on, you have to serve as my maid here, take care of my three meals a day and my daily life, understand?"
"Ah! Why should I?" Hearing this, Zhao Xinlian stopped in her tracks, turned around, and looked at Chen Wei in disbelief, finding his demand to be a bit too much.
"Didn’t you think doing household chores, cooking, and taking care of people was simple? So this is my way of getting back at you, you’ll keep your promise, right?" Chen Wei asked with a slight smile.
To Zhao Xinlian, that smile was of the devil, no doubt about it, a thorough devil! It was too evil!
"Hmph! I’ll do it, who’s afraid of whom?" Zhao Xinlian wouldn’t be cowed, although she had never served anyone before, she didn’t believe such tasks would be all that difficult.
She would prove to Chen Wei that he was making a mountain out of a molehill.
After walking a few steps, as if remembering something, she suddenly asked, "By the way! How long do I have to be your maid here?"
"One year? Two years? Maybe three years? It depends on your performance," Chen Wei replied with the same unchanging smile on his face.
Hearing him emphasize the words "three years," Zhao Xinlian was at a loss for words.
After all, the time that Chen Wei had agreed to become the Zhao Family’s live-in son-in-law was three years.
Chen Wei’s choosing three years as the timeframe for revenge couldn’t be more appropriate.
Zhao Xinlian had nothing to say.
Since she had already agreed, she wouldn’t break her promise to anyone, let alone three years, even thirty years wouldn’t make Zhao Xinlian easily give in.
How difficult could it be to take care of one’s daily life and three meals a day?
Heh.
Shrugging with her hands spread out, Zhao Xinlian wore a look of disdain.
Then, she boiled water, opened the fridge, took out the tea leaves, placed them into a wooden cup, and poured in the hot water to steep.
"Simple and easy." Zhao Xinlian’s smile was smug.
Carrying the cup of tea she believed to be perfect, she returned to Chen Wei, "Drink up, you’re not expecting me to blow on it to cool it down and feed you sip by sip, are you?"
"That won’t be necessary, but I won’t be drinking this tea," said Chen Wei, without any intention of getting up or reaching out to take the tea.
"Why not?" Zhao Xinlian felt she might have been played.
"This wooden cup can only be used for cold items. If you steep it with hot water, its surface coating will melt. Take a good whiff and see, does that smell normal?"
After Chen Wei pointed this out, Zhao Xinlian bowed her head to sniff and did indeed smell a pungent, strange odor.
"..." She was red-faced and speechless.
Just a second ago she had been so proud, thinking such a small task couldn’t possibly be done poorly, only to have Chen Wei mercilessly confront her with reality the next.
"There’s a Yixing clay cup especially for steeping tea in the third cabinet to the right," Chen Wei reminded her.
"Then why didn’t you say so earlier." Zhao Xinlian murmured softly, carrying the failed tea back to the kitchen.
"And! There’s no need to use so many tea leaves, just throwing in five or six would suffice. This tea is very expensive. If you waste it, you’ll have to repay tenfold!" Chen Wei warned again.
"It’s just some tea leaves, how much could they possibly be worth?" Zhao Xinlian wasn’t fazed by Chen Wei’s threat.
"Ten thousand yuan for one tael, top-grade Oriental Emerald Sprouts!"
