Chapter 325: Chapter 325: Without Suspense

"..." Raising his daughter with immense hardships, and now, before even marrying her off, she was already turning against him, this dealt Li Bianyuan’s heart what could be called a ten-thousand-point critical hit.

He had originally planned to go easy on Chen Wei, but now it seemed he had to go all out! Otherwise, the pent-up anger in his heart would be hard to dissipate!

Chen Wei didn’t speak; he picked up the kitchen knife that Li Bianyuan had placed beside him and began to peel.

"How, how is this possible!" At first, Li Bianyuan didn’t pay much attention, but then, his eyes widened in shock—Chen Wei’s potato peels were so thin they could be described as translucent!

In all his years as a chef, Li Bianyuan had never seen anyone peel potato skins this thinly—it was truly imperceptible to the flesh.

Is this kid playing dumb and eating a tiger in front of me?

Li Bianyuan even started to suspect whether Chen Wei might be some God of Cookery’s closed-door disciple, trained from a young age, because otherwise, this level of skill would not be possible.

"Wow, that’s amazing. I didn’t know potato skins could be peeled so thinly," Li Feier stood by, her eyes shining with admiration.

"With practice, you can do it too," Chen Wei did not consider this something to boast about—it was merely basic skills.

The disciples he had taught could all easily do the same.

"Don’t listen to his nonsense; this skill, probably only a God of Cookery in each cuisine could achieve," Li Bianyuan was thinking of throwing cold water on Chen Wei, to expose his true face, but he realized a second later that he had misspoken.

Words spoken, like water splashed, are not so easily taken back.

"Only a God of Cookery can do it? So Brother Wei, aren’t you a God of Cookery?" Li Feier, knowing that Chen Wei was older than her, thus calling him Brother Wei.

Seeing Li Feier falling deeper under the spell, Li Bianyuan lifted his hand and slapped his own mouth—it was truly a case of boosting someone else’s morale while destroying his own prestige!

Li Bianyuan stopped talking and acted the master; he took down the chopping board, placed the potato on it, tap tap tap, his hands moved extremely fast, instantly slicing the whole potato into dozens of slices, then into strands, decades of seasoned skills perfectly displayed, with each strand almost perfectly overlapping.

He put down the knife, glanced at Chen Wei, and snorted lightly, not saying a word, but it was clearly a provocation towards Chen Wei.

"Uncle, may I borrow the chopping board?" Since there was only one chopping board, Chen Wei had to ask Li Bianyuan for it.

"Sure, no problem," Li Bianyuan responded readily. He wanted to see if Chen Wei’s knife skills could surpass his own, honed over decades as a chef, having even been the head chef at a five-star hotel.

He placed the cut potato strands into a bowl filled with water, a step to remove excess starch.

Then he cleaned the chopping board and handed it to Chen Wei.

Chen Wei held the potato with one hand and the knife with the other, tap tap tap...

Li Bianyuan, when cutting vegetables, had a speed so fast that afterimages could be seen.

On Chen Wei’s side, his hand speed was so fast it was as if he had conjured five or six extra hands out of thin air!

Upon closer inspection, the potato seemed not to have reacted at all, maintaining its shape.

Chen Wei organized the slices—each as thin as a cicada’s wing—and then, another round of tap tap tap, slicing quickly into strands!

He placed the slices on the knife blade, dropped them into the water with a flick, and with a gentle shake, they dispersed like thousands of fine hairs.

"Oh my god, these potato strands are cut so finely! You could probably even thread a needle with them," Li Feier had thought Li Bianyuan’s knife skills were already freakish, but she hadn’t expected someone like Chen Wei to be in line, with even more monstrous skills!

"Hehe..." Li Bianyuan’s smile had become somewhat strained at this point; he lifted his hand to wipe the sweat beads from his forehead and said, "No matter how good the knife skills are, the quality of the cooking still needs to be seen in the dish itself. Do you want to go first, or shall I?"

"I’m fine either way, Uncle, you decide," Chen Wei left the choice to Li Bianyuan.

"Then you go first," Li Bianyuan decided to let Chen Wei cook first, so he could observe the situation a bit more to make a come-from-behind victory!

"Sure." Chen Wei picked up the wok to heat the oil and started with frying chili peppers...

A series of operations left Li Bianyuan utterly amazed.

To those who knew, Chen Wei was just a young guy, but to those who didn’t, with the way he handled himself, even God of Cookery seemed an insufficient title.

Come-from-behind?

What come-from-behind? Li Bianyuan immediately lost all will to compete, completely convinced of his defeat.

He had no idea where his daughter had found such a creature.

Young as he was, being the boss of a top 500 listed company was one thing, but cooking like this? It was like the heavens had force-fed him talent!

"Uncle, please try my cooking." Chen Wei held chopsticks in one hand and a plate of shredded potatoes in the other.

"Okay, I’ll give it a try." Li Bianyuan did want to taste what kind of difference there was between the cuisine of a culinary sage and that of us mere mortals.

Picking up his chopsticks, he grabbed some shredded potato. Despite being thin as hair, they had a satisfying crunch and the unique flavor of the dried chili.

"Incredible! Absolutely incredible!" Li Bianyuan couldn’t help but exclaim.

Not to mention Li Feier, even Chen Huali, who had spent decades with Li Bianyuan, had never seen him show such an expression or give such high praise to someone else’s food.

"It seems that there’s no suspense in this competition. Chen, you’ve won," Chen Huali declared.

Upon hearing this, Li Bianyuan didn’t say anything. A loss was a loss.

"I had thought as long as you didn’t cook something awful, I wouldn’t make things difficult for you two. But your culinary skills have left even me, who has been a head chef for decades, far behind. I can truly rest easy entrusting Feier to a man like you."

Chen Wei could tell that Li Bianyuan was struggling to contain his discomfort.

It looked as though he was marrying off his daughter, not just agreeing to her dating him.

"Dad, thank you," Li Feier, moved, threw herself into Li Bianyuan’s arms.

"Silly girl, the reason why I was so hard on him was because I was worried about you being deceived by someone as you’re new to society, so I wanted to test him. Don’t hold it against me," Li Bianyuan explained.

"Don’t worry, I’m not that narrow-minded. Besides, you’re my dad. No matter whom I might resent, it could never be you," Li Feier didn’t understand what Li Bianyuan was so worried about.

"Then I’m relieved," Li Bianyuan let out a long sigh of relief.

"It’s also mealtime now. Which of you two is going to cook?" Chen Huali asked, looking at the time on the wall.

"Today, Uncle came especially to cook for Feier. How could I steal his thunder? I’ll just assist Uncle," Chen Wei offered voluntarily.

These words greatly increased his favorability in Li Bianyuan’s eyes.

Chen Huali was also pleased to have such an understanding future son-in-law.

"Well then, Mom, let’s go watch some TV and get ready for a feast." Given the situation, Li Feier had no choice but to give up her plan to celebrate the success of the song ’Farewell General’ by dining out alone with Chen Wei.

Gathering together to share the joy wasn’t a bad idea either.
