Chapter 269: Chapter 269: He is Master Chen?!

Seeing Deng Yihang in such a fluster, breathing heavily, Lin Youwen asked with concern, "Did something happen?"

"No, it’s nothing." Deng Yihang steadied himself against the door frame and raised his hand, gesturing in front of him to assure Lin Youwen not to worry.

After a few deep breaths, his respiration gradually calmed down before he finally asked, "Has Master Chen come to your house?"

"Master Chen?" Lin Youwen immediately denied it, "Only my future son-in-law came, not the Master Chen you’re looking for."

Anyone Deng Yihang would call a master must certainly be an extraordinary person.

It wasn’t that Lin Youwen looked down on Chen Wei, but at his age, the chances of him being referred to as a master by Deng Yihang were incredibly slim, if not nonexistent—it was just too far-fetched.

Lin Youwen thought that Deng Yihang was probably confused from playing too much chess and setting up too many strategies, which led him to make a fool of himself by coming to his own house.

As for them both having the surname Chen? Just a coincidence.

"Elder Lin, we’ve been good friends for many years; you can’t lie to me. I clearly saw you post a picture on your moments of you playing chess with Master Chen." Hearing Lin Youwen deny it, Deng Yihang became a bit angry, feeling that Lin was deliberately preventing him from meeting Master Chen.

"What Master Chen? That is my future daugh..." Mid-sentence, Lin Youwen suddenly turned his head, looking at Chen Wei who was chatting leisurely with his wife Dai Yufang.

Could he really be the Master Chen that Deng Yihang was talking about?

Or was he just a look-alike?

This turn gave Deng Yihang a clear view, and upon seeing Chen Wei, he immediately entered the house, forgetting even to take off his shoes.

"Elder Deng!" Dai Yufang stood up to greet Deng Yihang’s arrival.

"I didn’t come to eat." Deng Yihang raised his hand, signaling Dai Yufang not to fuss over him, and then his gaze settled on Chen Wei, "Master Chen, it’s been almost five years since we last met, hasn’t it?"

"Uh..." Chen Wei glanced at Lin Youwen, who was standing dumbfounded by the door, and then at Dai Yufang, who had a similarly stunned expression, along with Lin Huayin and her daughter. Now that things had come to this, even if he wanted to hide, he couldn’t anymore.

He could only nod and admit, "It has been that long. I didn’t expect to run into you here."

Seeing the two of them engage in conversation, Lin Huayin and the others felt a surge of amazement.

Nobody anticipated that Chen Wei had such a significant background, not even Lin Huayin.

Then, Lin Youwen approached, still finding it hard to believe, and asked again to confirm, "Elder Deng, are you sure you haven’t mistaken the person? He’s my daughter’s boyfriend, looks no more than twenty-three or twenty-four years old, and you’re calling him a master?"

"I might mistake anyone else, but I absolutely cannot mistake Master Chen. Do you remember the game against the South Korean Chess Grandmaster five years ago?" Deng Yihang suddenly brought up the events from five years earlier.

"I remember; you employed the Ten Directions Siege Formation at that time, but you still couldn’t turn around the unfavorable situation. Yet, you ended up winning." That competition was a shock both at home and abroad, arguably the most thrilling battle in ten years. As a chess enthusiast, Lin Youwen remembered it vividly.

"I went to the restroom back then, and Master Chen happened to be there too. He woke me up with just one sentence."

Upon careful thought, Lin Youwen indeed recalled such an incident.

After Deng Yihang returned from the restroom, he quickly changed strategies and dramatically turned the tides, infuriating the South Korean Chess Grandmaster to the point of spitting blood.

"Just one sentence might not be enough to qualify you to call someone of your status a master, right?" Lin Youwen asked again.

"It’s certainly not just that. Over these past five years, the reason I’ve remained undefeated and achieved great success is all thanks to Master Chen’s secret guidance. However, three years ago, Master Chen suddenly disappeared without a trace, and I completely lost contact with him."

Deng Yihang then turned towards Chen Wei, grabbing his hand excitedly, "Master Chen, I have been searching for you for the past three years. I even feared something might have happened to you. I am glad you are alright."

"I had some personal matters to attend to, so I disappeared for three years," Chen Wei explained away with a single sentence.

"I see." Deng Yihang let go of Chen Wei’s hand, stepped back, and clasps his hands together, bowing, "Master Chen, after five years, I again face a difficult plateau. Tomorrow is my rematch against the South Korean Chess Grandmaster, and I seek your guidance to clear the fog of confusion."

Seeing this scene, the three of them truly believed that Deng Yihang wasn’t joking; Chen Wei’s chess skills were not just high, they were unbelievably high!

No wonder Lin Huayin felt something was off when Lin Youwen won before.

Looking at Chen Wei, it turns out this young man had lost to his dad on purpose.

"I’m still having dinner with your uncle and aunt; can we do it later?"

Chen Wei and Deng Yihang could be considered close friends in the realm of chess, constantly exchanging ideas whenever they found time.

Additionally, that Chess Grandmaster from South Korea was really annoying; he had been extremely disrespectful to Great Xia during a live broadcast of a tournament, even claiming that he wanted to change the nationality of chess to South Korean. Chen Wei had never liked that guy.

As a local chess master of Great Xia, if Deng lost to that old man, he might start ranting arrogantly, disrespecting this and that.

This was one favor Chen Wei really couldn’t refuse to help with.

It was important to let anyone feel proud, just not let that nation of thieves get too pleased with themselves.

That which is ours is ours... in fact, even their country name was bestowed by the ancient emperors of Great Xia.

Anyway, just a few pointers wouldn’t take too much time.

"Then you carry on eating. I’ll wait outside. Once you’re done, just flicker the light switch, and I’ll know it’s time to come back up," Deng Yihang suggested.

"Okay," Chen Wei agreed.

"Please enjoy your meal, I’ll take my leave first." Deng Yihang turned to leave, carefully closing the door behind him so as not to spoil Chen Wei’s mood.

After his departure, the atmosphere remained awkward.

Nobody knew what to say.

"Uncle and auntie, please enjoy your meal, this fish is really delicious," Chen Wei initiated the conversation.

"Yes, let’s eat, let’s eat," Dai Yufang said with a forced smile.

Lin Youwen hesitated for twenty or thirty seconds before speaking again, making a request, "Son-in-law, when you give pointers to Elder Deng later, could I perhaps listen in and learn as well?"

Seeing him act so respectfully, almost revering Chen Wei as a Chess Saint or Chess God, Dai Yufang and Lin Huayin, mother and daughter, couldn’t help but exchange amused glances.

The awkward atmosphere was instantly dispelled.

"He’s still Huayin’s boyfriend, how can you just call him your son-in-law already?" Dai Yufang teased.

"What boyfriend! He is my son-in-law. I, Lin Youwen, have made up my mind, and no one else will do," Lin Youwen said seriously, staring at Lin Huayin.

"Alright, alright, as you wish," Lin Huayin couldn’t hold back her laughter.

Then, turning her gaze to Chen Wei, she rested her chin in her hands. Whether intentional or not, she revealed a smile as if a scheme had succeeded, "Wei, it seems we won’t be able to wrap things up if we don’t get married now, what shall we do?"

"When the right time comes, I have no problem. Marrying Huayin would definitely be my life’s fortune," Chen Wei replied sincerely.

Upon hearing this, the old couple were overjoyed and very satisfied with Chen Wei as their son-in-law.

You think you’re fooling me, don’t you? Lin Huayin playfully scolded Chen Wei with a glance, wrinkling her nose.
