Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Fingers Intertwined, First Update
"I, Chen Wei, always keep my word. How could I possibly go back on it?" Chen Wei suddenly stood up, bent over, and reached out towards Su Yumei.
"What, what are you trying to do?" Su Yumei seemed very nervous.
"Aah!" The next second, Chen Wei unexpectedly lifted her from the sofa, and she instinctively hugged him to avoid falling backward, pressing her body close to his.
"I see you’re tired, senior sister, so I kindly offer to carry you upstairs to sleep. What, you don’t like it? Then I’ll put you down."
"Eh!" Su Yumei quickly wrapped her arms around Chen Wei’s neck, "I didn’t say that. Hurry up the stairs, and remember to turn off the light."
"Alright."
...
Carrying Su Yumei to the second floor and into her room, he gently shut the door with his foot, turned on the light, and did it all in one smooth motion.
Finally, at the bedside, he set Su Yumei down, "How’s that? Senior sister, isn’t my service thoughtful?"
Su Yumei withdrew her hands from around Chen Wei’s neck, nodded contentedly, "Thoughtful, indeed very thoughtful."
Then she shifted a bit to the side and patted the bed, "Come up quickly."
"Hmm." Chen Wei took off his shoes, opened the covers, and lay down.
The two of them quietly lay in bed, barely half a body’s distance apart, watching the ceiling through the speckles of moonlight that filtered in.
"Senior sister, it’s been a long time since we last slept in the same bed like this, hasn’t it?" Chen Wei was the first to speak and break the dull atmosphere.
"Almost ten years, right?" Su Yumei was not quite sure but felt it should be around that long.
"Ten years, huh? That’s indeed not short. Ten years ago, both you and I were underage—it’s no wonder it feels so different now."
"Feels different?" Su Yumei turned onto her side, propped her head on her hand, and curiously looked at Chen Wei, "How is it different?"
"You know, senior sister, I’m a man, and you’re so beautiful. A lone man and woman in the same room—what kind of feelings could there be?" Chen Wei glanced sideways.
"Ah! You can’t possibly mean..." Su Yumei’s gaze slid from Chen Wei’s face down to his chest, his stomach, and then—
Chen Wei clamped his legs together, somewhat annoyed, "I meant the inner impulse! What are you thinking, senior sister? I didn’t expect that after only ten years, you would become so lecherous."
"Huh? I’m lecherous? You little rascal, what nonsense are you spouting?" Su Yumei seemed to complain yet coquettishly pushed Chen Wei’s shoulder.
"I consider myself to have quite acceptable looks. It wouldn’t be strange for you to yearn for my body, but no matter what, we’re senior sister and junior brother; you’d better keep yourself under control."
"Little rascal, you dare speak such things? Well then, today I’ll devour you." Su Yumei raised her hands, her index fingers mimicking gnashing teeth, stretching towards Chen Wei.
"Senior sister, it tickles! You got me—I’m really sorry."
Seeing Chen Wei realize his mistake, Su Yumei withdrew her hand, snorted lightly, "Let’s see if you dare to tease your senior sister next time."
"I won’t dare anymore, absolutely not." Chen Wei raised his hand and swore, three fingers raised.
One second passed.
Two seconds passed.
Three seconds passed.
Noticing Chen Wei still kept the same pose, motionless, Su Yumei asked puzzledly, "Why have you suddenly stopped talking?"
"Senior sister, don’t turn around. Behind the curtains on the balcony, there seems to be someone standing. No, not someone—how could a person have no feet!" Chen Wei’s expression was unclear to Su Yumei, but from his tone, she could tell he wasn’t joking.
The act of swallowing saliva added another stroke of detail.
"Wei, senior sister is really scared, especially after just watching a horror movie, don’t scare me." Su Yumei didn’t dare turn around to check; her body had become rigid, beyond her control.
"Lie to you? Why would I do that—look for yourself, senior sister, it seems like it wants to open the door and come in!"
"Ah!" Su Yumei screamed and flung herself into Chen Wei’s arms, holding him tightly.
Her legs and arms were wrapped firmly around Chen Wei, locking him in.
Chen Wei lifted his hand and gently patted her back, "Senior sister, take it easy, don’t strangle me."
"But I’m so scared, Wei, what if it really is a ghost?" Su Yumei’s voice trembled just like her body as she kept her eyes firmly shut.
Her grip tightened even more.
It even made Chen Wei recall the intense moment five years ago on a mission in the rainforest when he was entwined by an enormous python tens of meters long.
Against the python, Chen Wei could fully unleash his bloodthirsty, wild side.
But with Su Yumei, all Chen Wei could do was endure. He was even afraid that applying the slightest force might break her bones.
"Senior sister, I surrender, I confess, there was never any shadow. It was all made up by me, please let go." Chen Wei decided to give up on teasing Su Yumei, otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to sleep well tonight.
"Made up? Are you sure?" Su Yumei raised her head, looking at Chen Wei with eyes that pleaded for confirmation.
"Yeah, it was all made up, there are no such things as ghosts in this world." Chen Wei spoke with conviction.
The atmosphere fell silent for a few seconds.
"Hiss!" Chen Wei took in a sharp breath, caused by Su Yumei pinching him hard in the back.
"Senior sister, isn’t that a bit too harsh?" Chen Wei glanced at Su Yumei who was hugging her chest and looking unhappy.
"That’s for scaring me," Su Yumei said, irritated.
"It won’t happen again next time," he promised.
"Go to sleep! I don’t want to talk to you," Su Yumei turned away, her back facing Chen Wei.
"Senior sister, if you’re really scared, do you want to borrow my hand?" Chen Wei reached his hand out towards Su Yumei.
"Don’t want it, get it away," Su Yumei pushed his hand away.
"Really don’t want it?" Chen Wei persisted.
"You’re so annoying, when I say no, I mean no," Su Yumei pushed his hand away again.
"Fine then, good night," Chen Wei didn’t insist further.
Just then, a sudden gust of wind blew in from outside the window, making the leaves rustle loudly.
"..." Su Yumei caught a glimpse of a dark shadow flitting past the window so quickly that she couldn’t make it out—it was actually a trash bag—and her eyes widened in alarm.
She didn’t say anything, but inside, her emotions churned stormily, far from calm.
She turned towards Chen Wei.
And saw him with his eyes open, looking at her.
"So, you still want it, right?" Chen Wei took his hand out of the blanket and wiggled it.
"This really is the last time. If you dare to scare me again, I’ll never forgive you," Su Yumei also extended her hand from under the blanket and interlocked her fingers with Chen Wei’s.
"Interlocked fingers, senior sister, isn’t this a bit too intimate? If someone finds out, they might misunderstand our relationship," Chen Wei half-joked.
"We’re already sleeping together, if there’s anything to misunderstand, it’d be that first. What’s the big deal with holding hands? Is it their place to care? Can they even control it?" Su Yumei said defiantly.
"Exactly, I’m holding my senior sister’s hand, and if she doesn’t mind, no one else has the right to," Chen Wei strongly agreed.
Su Yumei didn’t say anything more and pulled Chen Wei’s hand back under the blanket, admitting to herself that doing so indeed brought her considerable comfort.
