Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Then Resign! Fourth Shift

"Divine Doctor Chen, please watch your head," Zhang Bowen said as he opened the rear door of the car a step ahead and respectfully invited Chen Wei inside.

"Thank you," Chen Wei replied as he got into the car. After closing the door, Zhang Bowen opened the driver’s side door and took his seat.

On the way, Chen Wei felt that he should start a conversation to avoid an overly somber atmosphere. "So, Uncle Zhang, you’ve been the steward for the Han Family for quite some time, haven’t you?"

"Yes, it’s been about nineteen years now, coinciding with the young miss’s birth year," Zhang Bowen replied.

"You and Auntie Zhang share the same last name—are you siblings?" Chen Wei asked further.

"Right, we are siblings. That year was a tough one for the Han Family. Many members passed away, and Lingxue was just born. She needed care, so I came and have been here ever since," Zhang Bowen explained.

"I see." Now Chen Wei understood why President Han and Zhang Weiya held Zhang Bowen in such high esteem—he was not only a steward but also family.

During the rest of the ride, Chen Wei and Zhang Bowen casually talked about Han Lingxue’s childhood stories, mainly her excellences, such as winning countless awards and being very sensible and filial, though born into a prestigious family, yet never arrogant...

Chen Wei had hoped to get some embarrassing stories about Han Lingxue from Zhang Bowen to tease her the next time they met. Now, it seemed he had thought too much.

When the car stopped and he got out, he looked at the glass building in front of him. Its grandeur was on par with Yumei’s Qingshi Group.

"Steward Zhang!" The security guards stood at attention respectfully as Zhang Bowen got out of the car.

They also showed additional respect toward Chen Wei, opening the glass door ahead of his arrival, "Sir, please come in."

Chen Wei nodded in acknowledgment.

"Divine Doctor Chen, this way," Zhang Bowen led Chen Wei to the elevator, swiping his card for direct access to the core research floor. This floor housed the top talents of Han Pharmaceutical, and ordinary people had no access to it.

The elevator doors had barely opened, and before Chen Wei and Zhang Bowen could step out, they saw a sharp-featured woman standing with her arms crossed, looking at them with a scrutinizing gaze.

"Isn’t that Researcher Yang? Are you getting on the elevator?" Zhang Bowen moved aside out of politeness, deciding to let Yang Aiqi enter first before heading back down himself.

"The news about the Xu family terminating cooperation with the Han Clan—don’t you think you owe me an explanation? You’re here on President Han’s orders, aren’t you?" Yang Aiqi’s tone grew more and more like that of an interrogator in a prison.

"No, Miss Yang, actually, my visit this time..."

"Stop! Enough! Are you trying to tell me you’re not here to explain on President Han’s behalf?" Yang Aiqi raised her hand, impatiently cutting off Zhang Bowen’s half-finished reply, frowning deeply.

Zhang Bowen nodded.

"You should know why I chose to join Han Pharmaceutical in the first place, right? It was because you secured the drug manufacturing partnership with the Xu family. That thing was of great significance for my future research. Now that the Xu family has canceled the partnership, I think it’s time for me to tender my resignation."

Yang Aiqi had thought that Han Wentian would send someone to communicate with her and appease her immediately.

But it turned out he had no such plans at all.

This was a severe blow to Yang Aiqi, who held dual doctoral degrees, as she felt underestimated.

Now that President Han Wentian had personally made the call, assuring her that he would continue to compete for cooperation with the Xu family and would further increase the salary offer, perhaps Yang Aiqi might consider staying, given the previous partnership.

"Miss Yang, please reconsider your resignation, I will communicate with President Han in a timely manner. If you don’t need the elevator, may I ask you to step aside? Divine Doctor Chen and I have very important matters to attend to, as personally instructed by President Han," Zhang Bowen felt that he could no longer let Yang Aiqi waste Chen Wei’s time.

"Divine Doctor? Him?" Yang Aiqi cast a skeptical glance at Chen Wei, finding it hard to believe that such a preposterous term would come from someone like Zhang Bowen, especially when used for someone who looked like a fresh college graduate.

What puzzled Yang Aiqi even more was that it was President Han Wentian himself who had ordered Zhang Bowen to bring Chen Wei, this guy, to the secret floor of the Han Clan.

"I don’t think he’s qualified to walk through this door, this is a place where only the elite among the elite are entitled to enter, he’s just a fraud," Yang Aiqi didn’t want anyone mistaking her and Chen Wei for being the same sort of people.

"Miss Yang, the situation is urgent, and it’s a direct order from President Han. Please don’t interfere," Zhang Bowen also began to feel that this woman, Yang Aiqi, was being somewhat unreasonably troublesome.

"You say I’m in the way?" Yang Aiqi’s anger was instantly ignited by Zhang Bowen’s remark, "Fine! Then call President Han now, tell him, say Han Pharmaceutical can only keep one of us between him and me!"

She was acting out of spite, not believing that the obvious choice would be too simple for an old fox like Han Wentian to make.

Could this guy possibly compare with her?

Clearly not.

"Then, utilizing the authority of the acting chairman, I hereby accept your resignation, Miss Yang. If there’s nothing else, please pack up your things and leave Han Clan as soon as possible."

"What did you say!" Yang Aiqi was truly stunned that Zhang Bowen dared to utter those words.

She even began to wonder whether Chen Wei could be Zhang Bowen’s illegitimate son, and that to pave his future path, he’d even sacrifice her by firing her!

"Wasn’t it you, Miss Yang, who mentioned considering resignation? No need to consider it any longer, I agree. Now please step aside, Divine Doctor Chen and I really have an emergency," Zhang Bowen adopted a somewhat forceful approach.

As Zhang Bowen’s hand reached out, Yang Aiqi instinctively stepped back, not wanting to be touched by an old man looking to take advantage.

"Divine Doctor Chen, this way, please."

"Okay," Chen Wei nodded and stepped out of the elevator ahead of Zhang Bowen.

"Wait! Stop! Zhang Bowen, you explain yourself, by what right do you ask me to resign!" Yang Aiqi bit back.

"Miss Yang, the cooperation between the Xu family and Han Pharmaceutical is basically impossible now. Since the drug technology of the Xu family is so important to you and you have thoughts of resigning, I personally recommend that you resign. Of course, I will have no opinion if you decide to stay," Zhang Bowen said, then turned his head to accompany Chen Wei away, leading him to the main research lab.

Whether Han Pharmaceutical could be revived from the brink of death all depended on Chen Wei.

Zhang Bowen had placed great hope in him, one could say it was an absolute hundred percent.

"You’re good, Zhang Bowen, ready to dismiss me for a fraudster? Fine! Very well, if you show no mercy, then don’t blame me for my lack of righteousness!" Instead of getting in the elevator, Yang Aiqi quickened her pace to follow closely behind Chen Wei and Zhang Bowen, plotting something in her heart and her expression turned sly.
