Chapter 113: Chapter 113: The Banquet at Hongmen! Second Release
Leng Qianqian’s words made Chen Wei give up the idea of riding the motorcycle, and he also noticed the black business car parked in front of him.
When the car door opened, a man dressed in a suit and leather shoes stepped down from the driver’s seat. He walked to the rear driver’s side door, opened it, and since the inside was empty, his intention was clear—he was inviting Chen Wei and Leng Qianqian to get in the car.
"What do you think? Want to get in?" Leng Qianqian left the decision to Chen Wei, she was fine with whatever.
"Since someone wants to meet us, let’s go and see then," Chen Wei said, also curious about who would create such a spectacle to meet them in the middle of the night, whether it was for him or for Leng Qianqian.
Considering the car’s value, the person’s identity was certainly either wealthy or noble.
Could it be that Ye Zhentian had spread the news of his return, and someone from above had come to find him?
Without further thought, after seeing Leng Qianqian get into the car, Chen Wei followed and sat inside as well.
After the driver closed the door, he returned to his seat.
"Who sent you here?" Chen Wei asked immediately.
"My only task is to pick you up. I’m not authorized to reveal anything else. Please understand," the man responded.
Chen Wei didn’t make it difficult for him, but at least he could confirm one thing, that he and the people behind him had indeed come for him.
Subsequently, the car directly left the Jiang City District, heading to the outskirts, to a place seldom visited by people. Surprisingly, there stood an enormous mansion enclosed by towering walls, reminiscent of an ancient palace.
There was no signboard, but the moment he stepped out of the car, Chen Wei smelled something that made him alert—a scent of poison!
Quite pungent, it hit his nose straight away.
This scent was eerily similar to that of Elder Snake, the short old man proficient in using poison who Chen Wei had killed at the Han Family household, exuding a type of wickedness.
Chen Wei judged that Elder Snake must have held a significant position within the Poison Sect. Logically, the Poison Sect should have sought revenge by now, and he had been wondering why no one had come yet.
So they were waiting for him here.
"Sister, looks like tonight’s supper is settled," Chen Wei joked.
"Is a Hongmen Banquet also considered supper?" Leng Qianqian asked.
There wasn’t a hint of panic on her face, nor had she thought about leaving. She had never heard of the Poison Sect and wasn’t interested in learning about them. But, if they intended to harm Chen Wei, Leng Qianqian wouldn’t mind wiping out the Poison Sect entirely!
"A banquet is still a banquet, isn’t it?"
As soon as Chen Wei finished speaking, he saw the driver stop before a door and, with a gesture of invitation, bowed slightly, "Please, this way."
Chen Wei nodded and, together with Leng Qianqian, entered the Poison Sect under someone else’s lead.
The attire of that person had an ancient style about it, what used to be called a maid.
This maid had purplish lips, dark circles under her eyes, and a bruised spot in the center of her forehead... clear symptoms of poisoning, yet she could move about as if nothing was wrong. Just by looking, you could tell she must have, like Elder Snake, practiced the Poison Technique, endangering both herself and others.
Three to four minutes later, the maid stopped in front of a wooden door, stepped aside, and gently opened the door, saying, "Please, come in."
Behind the door was a large round table where three people made up the entire party.
The table was laden with various delicacies—suckling pig, roast chicken, ox head... The spread was so rich, it could even compare with some five-star hotels in the city.
A closer look at the other three individuals revealed that one of them was wearing an angry expression, seemingly quite unhappy to see Chen Wei.
The other two, although wearing smiles, had a kind of false, strained grin, a façade devoid of any genuine warmth or sincerity.
It must have been difficult for them.
Chen Wei still preferred the middle-aged man with the angry expression—the one who seemed genuine and unpretentious, like he might lose control at any second and pounce over, eager to tear Chen Wei into a thousand pieces!
Chen Wei and Leng Qianqian crossed the threshold, walking into the house like ordinary guests, and sat down on the stools that had been prepared for them in advance.
The maid then closed the door with a creak.
It was hard for anyone to believe this wasn’t a setup for a disastrous banquet.
"This roasted suckling pig isn’t bad—sister, have some of the skin. It’s good for beauty and nourishment," Chen Wei said, picking up the utensils, tearing off a piece of the crisp roasted skin, and placing it in Leng Qianqian’s bowl.
"Okay," complied Leng Qianqian, as she picked up her utensils and began to taste it.
Seeing the three of them not moving their chopsticks, Chen Wei gestured, "Eat, come on, eat. We guests are not being polite; why are you hosts being so courteous?"
Slap!
The middle-aged man couldn’t take it anymore and slapped the table, "You really started eating! I can’t believe you have the appetite!"
"Why wouldn’t I? Didn’t you invite me here to eat? If not, why prepare such a big table of food?" Chen Wei retorted.
At this point, the eldest elder in the room stood up, placed his hand on the middle-aged man’s shoulder, and pushed him back into his seat, saying with a smile that was more like a snarl, "Please forgive my junior brother’s strange and explosive temper. He means no harm."
"Eat, everyone, move your chopsticks. It’s a pity to let such good food get cold," commanded the elder. The middle-aged man and another elder reluctantly picked up their utensils and began to eat.
Then, through conversation, Chen Wei learned that the oldest elder’s name was Mo Wenhui; the one second in age was Xu Linjun; and the one with the most explosive temper, the middle-aged man, was called Qian Chengtian.
Qian Chengtian’s face had been flushed with anger from the moment they met, and now, more than ten minutes in, not only had the color not faded, it had become even more intense.
Especially when Chen Wei finished his first bowl of rice and asked for a second, then a third.
He couldn’t understand what his two senior brothers were thinking. Why not simply kill this annoying brat and keep the woman for their own amusement? Why bother with all these unnecessary complications?
But his opinion carried little weight.
Watching Chen Wei eat a serving of every dish, Qian Chengtian smirked to himself. It was almost time.
The menu, in fact, seemed to have nothing wrong with it. However, combining certain dishes and consuming them together would form a deadly poison after a short period of time!
It was potent enough to easily kill an elephant, let alone Chen Wei, who had consumed so much.
Qian Chengtian didn’t believe Chen Wei would leave this place alive today.
When he saw Leng Qianqian frown and put down her utensils, reaching for her stomach, Qian Chengtian’s lips curled into a smile, knowing the drug was beginning to take effect.
Mo Wenhui and Xu Linjun exchanged glances, both revealing a triumphant smile.
Defeating an enemy without mobilizing a single soldier was indeed a cause for celebration, a source of pride!
"Sister, what’s wrong with you? Did you eat too much greasy food and now feel uncomfortable? I have a Grease Relief Pill here. Come on, take it," Chen Wei said, producing a black pill the size of a green bean from somewhere.
Leng Qianqian obediently opened her mouth, allowing him to feed her the pill.
With a gulp, she swallowed it down.
In an instant, the pain disappeared. She picked up her utensils again and continued to eat her meal as if nothing was amiss.
It had to be said, the taste was really quite good. A country-style restaurant would be a hit—assuming, of course, they didn’t add anything extra to the dishes...
