Chapter 229: Chapter 229: The Mutant’s Negative Punishment
Arthur quickly provided Lu Xiao with the coordinates and gave him a call back.
According to Arthur, it would take just an hour to handle, as Black Lotus even had a branch in Japan, making the operation simple and convenient.
"Too bad I can’t watch a live broadcast of the event." Lu Xiao lamented after hanging up the phone.
Goo Yuexing glanced at Lu Xiao, thinking this guy was hinting at him.
Goo Yuexing didn’t say anything and silently began to work on the control panel.
In less than a minute, one of the surveillance screens suddenly went dark and then rebooted.
After the reboot, the screen displayed a wide-angle view of an ordinary-looking factory building.
"White Sakura’s den looks pretty shabby." Lu Xiao commented.
The Seventeenth Bureau was better, though underground, the building above was upscale, a proper modern government building with everything one could need.
"The factory is just their cover, White Sakura’s base is also underground."
"Come to think of it, most of the Mutant Organizations’ bases around the world are hidden underground."
"Apart from secrecy, it’s also to guard against types like you," Goo Yuexing said, pointing at Lu Xiao.
Lu Xiao snorted, what do you mean, types like me? Weren’t you happily giving me coordinates when I talked about blowing things up?
"However, can you trust your friend to do a good job? Don’t tell me he’ll just toss a few grenades and call it a day; that wouldn’t have any effect or cause any harm to White Sakura."
Lu Xiao just huffed coldly in response to Goo Yuexing’s skepticism.
"Ever heard of Black Lotus?"
"Seems I’ve read some material about them, an assassin organization, right? But such assassin organizations pose no threat to Mutants."
"If the Mutant Organization chose to, they could probably crush such assassin groups without breaking a sweat."
Goo Yuexing’s face bore an unintentional, even somewhat disdainful, expression.
Having seen the power of Heavenly Men and Mutants, ordinary assassin organizations seemed rather child’s play to him.
Lu Xiao made no comment or rebuttal to Goo Yuexing’s strange self-confidence.
If it came to a head-on confrontation, Mutant Organizations really could demolish Black Lotus as if tearing down rotten wood.
But the question is... why confront head-on?
Is there something wrong with their brains?
"Just watch," Lu Xiao said, pointing at the screen.
...
There were many documents in Goo Yuexing’s office, enough to fill a large cardboard box.
The box, carried over by Goo Yuexing’s secretary, was stopped by a guard in the corridor just outside the security room.
"These are documents for the Director to review."
"I know, it’s a routine check. Once we’ve checked them, we’ll bring them in, you can leave," one of the guards said while rummaging through the box and speaking to the secretary.
Seeing the guard’s firmness, the secretary did not insist.
After all, there was heightened security, so it made sense for the guards outside the security room to be extra cautious.
Once the secretary left, the guard who had checked the box picked it up from the ground and headed straight for the door of the security room.
Lu Xiao watched the entire scene on the surveillance screen, his eyes rolling heavenward.
This was just ridiculous.
When "Jian Yan" came by earlier to deliver food, why didn’t I see you stop him?
"Speaking of which, when these Mutants awaken their abilities, do they also get somewhat dim-witted?" Lu Xiao asked Goo Yuexing mockingly, pointing out the glaring flaw.
Goo Yuexing was slightly taken aback, "You know about this?"
Lu Xiao: ???
So, it really is the case?
"According to our research, there is indeed such an impact. Especially in Elemental Ability Users, their personalities and decision-making will lean towards their elemental attributes to some extent."
"For example, a Fire Attribute ability can make a Mutant impulsive and irritable; an Ice Attribute ability, on the other hand, can make a Mutant more detached."
"Generally speaking, the kind of ability one has corresponds to the kind of negative impact it has," Goo Yuexing roughly explained.
Lu Xiao blinked, "Are they all negative?"
"Yes, almost without exception," Goo Yuexing nodded. This kind of negative repercussion is the price of having an ability.
"What about the Water Attribute? Water should be one of the more mild elemental types."
"For Water Attributes, the person becomes quite indifferent and depressed, prone to think life on Earth isn’t worth it, and might commit suicide. Incomplete statistics show that the suicide rate of Water Attribute Mutants is 7 to 10 times that of regular people."
"What about the Wood Attribute?" Lu Xiao persisted.
Wood Attributes are usually associated with healing; could this negative impact imply a life of constant misfortune?
"For Wood Attribute, well, one’s, um, needs would be especially vigorous."
Lu Xiao: ⊙0⊙
"There are books in the agency that specifically describe the negative effects of Mutants, you might want to take a look when you have time, better understand them, so you know your enemy in the future."
"Alright," Lu Xiao nodded, finding the Mutants’ community to be quite intriguing.
If you got married to a wife with a Wood Attribute ability... that would be overwhelming! Your back might just give out...
"Let’s drop this subject, I’m opening the gate," Goo Yuexing pressed the button to unlock the door, and the security room opened once again.
At the door, the guard holding the box glanced inside, then a hint of confusion flickered through his eyes.
Why were only Lu Xiao and Goo Yuexing in the security room? Where was "Jian Yan" who had just gone in?
"Why are you standing there? Bring the documents inside, set them on the table. Jian Yan is in the restroom; she’ll leave with you afterward," Goo Yuexing shouted through the communicator from inside the secondary shelter.
