Chapter 6: Seeking the Monkey

For five years since the false “Dragon King” claimed the Jiangning River, no fisherman dared cast their nets in its dark waters.

Perhaps this is for the best, Qin Chuan mused, it saves me the trouble of clearing the area.

With a single thunderous shout that pierced the river’s depths, the waters erupted in turmoil, boiling like a cauldron before turning ink-black. Then came the explosion—a towering column of water burst skyward, and from its depths emerged a monstrous black flood dragon.

The creature’s obsidian scales gleamed like polished metal, its eyes burning with malicious light as it roared, shaking the earth:

“Who dares disturb this Dragon King’s slumber?!”

Qin Chuan hovered calmly in the air, his lips curling in disdain.

“So this is the scourge pretending to be a Dragon King? Just a lowly swamp eel.”

“You crawled through the Heavenly Tribulations to become a demon immortal, yet instead of cultivating in some remote lake, you chose wickedness. Today, your luck runs out.”

Activating the 29th Heavenly Might: Sight Beyond Veils, Qin Chuan instantly saw through the beast’s illusions. This was no true dragon—just a Human Immortal-tier demon bloated with stolen power.

(Cultivation Stages)

  • Human Immortal: Those who survived nine heavenly strikes (basic celestial soldiers).
  • True Immortal: Can serve as minor deities or rule as demon kings.
  • Golden Immortal (Qin Chuan’s realm): Beyond mortality, their existence woven into the cosmos.
  • Great Unity Golden Immortal: Lifespans rivaling heaven itself.
  • Grand Luo Golden Immortal: The supreme beings, where even Quasi-Sages dwell.

“Insolent worm! I’ll devour you whole!”

The enraged dragon darkened the skies, storm clouds clotting like rotten cotton. Its maw—a gateway to oblivion—lunged forward.

Qin Chuan simply raised his hands, gripping an invisible haft as the air shimmered into a colossal spectral axe.

“Mountain-Cleaving Axe—!”

The technique, learned from observing a woodsman’s simple chops, met the dragon with apocalyptic force. Space itself seemed to fracture on impact.

“NO! I SERVE THE NORTHERN SEA’S—”

The plea died mid-scream as the dragon’s very essence unraveled.

“Oops.”

Qin Chuan blinked at the expanding shockwave threatening nearby Linchuan. With a wave, he funneled the destruction into his palms like reeling in wayward threads.

Using Golden Immortal might on a Human Immortal pest…

Like swatting a fly with divine lightning.

He ignored the dragon’s dying boasts about patrons. Unlike that troublemaker (currently exiled), he’d left his master’s mountain with full blessings.

In this era, everyone has connections.

“We owe you our children’s lives, Honored Uncle.”

In the Qin estate courtyard, the family head and Shu Kingdom’s eldest princess kowtowed deeply. Qin Chuan sighed.

“Rise.”

Seventeen years had turned kinship to reverence. To them, he was now more celestial benefactor than flesh-and-blood uncle.

Qin Wuyang studied the legend before him—the man who’d lifted their clan from obscurity to royalty, now ageless after seeking immortality with… a monkey.

“Prepare me quiet chambers. No disturbances.”

Five days later, surrounded by memorial tablets from grateful families, Qin Chuan grimaced. His “descendants” kept hinting about imperial invitations.

“Enough. Time to find that damn monkey.”

Without farewells, he transformed into a rainbow streak—streaking towards the Flower-Fruit Mountain.
