Chapter 28: Fierce Battle! Crushing the Twenty-Eight Constellations
“Scattering beans to form soldiers”—this technique isn’t just the stuff of legends; even in the mortal realm, cultivators capable of basic spellwork can cast it.
So how could such a common technique be ranked among the mighty powers of the Heavenly Gang?
Ordinary cultivators who scatter beans to form soldiers typically summon crude Yellow Turban warriors, capable of little more than heavy lifting.
But when executed as a Heavenly Gang divine technique, it can summon powerful soldiers imbued with the caster’s unique essence and attributes.
Qin Chuan stood atop Mount Huaguo, and with a wave of his hand, tens of thousands of streaks of red light descended from the heavens. In an instant, the mountain was filled with red-armored Taoist soldiers.
These were no ordinary troops—they were conjured through Qin Chuan’s immense power. Clad in vivid red armor, impervious to blades and flames, they exuded waves of searing heat. Each one possessed a cultivation level above the Immortal Realm, able to summon thunder and fire with a gesture.
At the forefront stood four extraordinary figures, armored in gold and crimson, with dignified and solemn expressions. Their power had reached the Golden Immortal stage—they could stir oceans and shatter the skies.
The four quickly engaged the Four Heavenly Kings in fierce combat.
With Qin Chuan’s summoned soldiers and the monkey’s clones joining the fray, the tide of battle atop Mount Huaguo shifted dramatically. The heavenly troops, once unstoppable, now met fierce resistance. The clash intensified, each side locked in a deadlock.
“May I ask the Star Lords to lend their strength!” Li Jing, seeing that the Heavenly Kings and their forces were faltering, called upon the watching Twenty-Eight Constellations.
“Heh heh heh, this envoy of the Empress of Earth certainly possesses formidable powers. Let’s all go in at once and finish this quickly—no need to hold back,” said one Star Lord, dragon-headed with a high crown, casting a glance at Qin Chuan atop the mountain.
The others nodded in agreement. “Indeed, indeed. Facing such a celestial being, if we pull our punches, we may find ourselves back on the Investiture of the Gods list.”
As soon as the words fell, the heavens stirred. The Twenty-Eight Constellations rode the clouds, tearing through the sky toward Mount Huaguo.
At the head of the group were four shining with dazzling divine light, illuminating heaven and earth. Radiating authority without anger, they were unmistakably four Taiyi Golden Immortals.
Even the weakest among the rest were Golden Immortals.
Qin Chuan looked up and recognized the four. With a smile, he said, “Ah, the Four Wood Avian Stars. We were just drinking and chatting not long ago, and now we meet on the battlefield?”
The Twenty-Eight Constellations were grouped by direction:
- East, the Azure Dragon, led by Horn Wood Flood Dragon
- South, the Vermilion Bird, led by Well Wood Tiger
- West, the White Tiger, led by Leg Wood Wolf
- North, the Black Tortoise, led by Dipper Wood Beast
The four—Horn Wood Flood Dragon, Dipper Wood Beast, Leg Wood Wolf, and Well Wood Tiger—were known collectively as the Four Wood Avian Stars.
On the Journey to the West, these four once descended to aid the Monkey King in subduing three powerful rhino demons of Green Dragon Mountain. Leg Wood Wolf had even disguised himself as the Yellow Robe Demon and clashed fiercely with the monkey—a formidable adversary.
Horn Wood Flood Dragon bowed and said, “Envoy, we act under orders—no personal grievance here. If you can best us, we Twenty-Eight Constellations will withdraw immediately.”
In other words, this was a challenge, not a life-or-death duel.
Qin Chuan glanced towards another battlefield where Nezha had come to aid the Nine Luminaries Star Lords. Without him, the current lineup might have sufficed to crush the monkey—no need for even Erlang Shen to step in.
Perhaps this was the Jade Emperor’s arrangement—a doting uncle, indeed.
“If that’s the case, there’s no need for more words. Let me witness the might of the Twenty-Eight Constellations!”
Fearless, Qin Chuan charged into their midst. His Ice Dragon Howl Spear gleamed with cold light, emanating bone-chilling frost. The weapon roared like a dragon, it’s cold aura piercing to the core.
The Twenty-Eight Constellations did not back down. Armed and powerful, they encircled Qin Chuan like wolves stalking prey.
The battle erupted. All twenty-eight Star Lords attacked at once.
Qin Chuan spun his spear in a tight defense, not letting a single strike through. Each blow echoed like a dragon’s roar, shaking the mountains. Though fierce, the Constellations couldn’t get near him.
Leaping into the air, Qin Chuan swept his spear in a wide arc. The Star Lords were forced back dozens of steps, shivering from the sudden cold—half of them were frozen where they stood.
Seeing this, the Four Wood Avian Stars charged together:
- Horn Wood Flood Dragon—nimble as a leaping dragon, his sword flashed like lightning towards Qin Chuan.
- Dipper Wood Beast—graceful as a swallow in flight, his spear struck like a serpent aiming at vital points.
- Leg Wood Wolf—massive as an elephant, he brought down his hammer like a mountain falling.
- Well Wood Tiger—agile as a leopard, his twin blades slashed like streaks of lightning.
The four attacked in unison, filling the sky with a storm of sword light, spear shadows, hammer wind, and blade gleams. But Qin Chuan moved like the wind—dodging, countering, and retaliating with deadly precision. His spear howled like a dragon with every strike, each blow carrying the chill of eternal frost.
“Limitless Tribulation Spear!”
Seizing an opening, Qin Chuan’s spear transformed into a blinding ray of cold light. A devastating chill surged toward the Four Wood Avian Stars.
Their faces changed in alarm. Though they mustered every ounce of power to block it, the spear’s might exceeded all expectations.
All four were blasted back, defeated in one overwhelming strike.
Taking advantage of the brief opening, the previously frozen Star Lords broke free from their icy bonds. Horn Wood Flood Dragon bellowed, “Twenty-Eight Constellations Grand Array!”
As soon as his voice fell, the Twenty-Eight Constellations vanished in an instant—replaced by four colossal figures: Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise.
Qin Chuan chuckled upon seeing this. “A pity—they are still not the true Four Divine Beasts of the Heavens.”
The Azure Dragon raised its head, summoning clouds and wind. Thunder and lightning tore across the skies. With a flick of its tail, fierce winds howled, and the land and mountains changed color.
The White Tiger roared, shaking the mountains and frightening all beasts. A single swipe of its claw sent boulders tumbling and rivers flowing backward.
The Vermilion Bird spread its wings, engulfing the world in flames. Wherever its feathers fell, fire erupted, setting forests ablaze.
The Black Tortoise moved stealthily, causing tsunamis to surge. Marine life panicked. When its shell trembled, furious waves crashed down, submerging entire islands.
The four divine beasts charged at Qin Chuan. Calm and composed, he turned his palm, invoking Reversal of Yin and Yang, Inversion of Heaven and Earth.
In an instant, the winds and clouds shifted, mountains and rivers swapped places. The divine beasts lunged toward Qin Chuan—only to find him poised effortlessly atop the clouds.
The Azure Dragon roared and lunged, only to be blown back by a violent gust of wind.
The White Tiger slashed, only to be blocked by a towering cliff.
The Vermilion Bird spewed fire, only to be enshrouded by a veil of mist.
The Black Tortoise crept below, only to be pushed back by an unseen force.
The bodies of the four divine beasts began to crumble, dissipating into wisps of smoke. Eventually, they reverted back to the forms of the Twenty-Eight Constellations, all of whom appeared severely weakened and drained.
Horn Wood Flood Dragon stared wide-eyed in disbelief. “That… that was the Great Art of Reversing Yin and Yang?!”
Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, the Monkey King had just repelled the Nine Luminaries Star Lords and was now locked in battle with Nezha, who had taken on his three-headed, six-armed form. From the look of things, Nezha’s “defeat” seemed inevitable—it was only a matter of time.
