Journey to the West: Starting from Changing Sun Wukong’s fate
Chapter 360 - 361 Once again fell into a group of monsters

Chapter 360: Chapter 361 Once again fell into a group of monsters

After leaving Lion Camel Ridge, the group of four continued on their journey.

"Master, it seems like you haven’t universally saved that big bird yet. Could this cause any problems?"

Zhu Bajie asked with some concern.

Sun Wukong and Sand Monk both involuntarily looked towards Xuanzang.

"To universally save demons and monsters, we’ve never encountered one that couldn’t be restored!"

Xuanzang seemed to perceive Zhu Bajie’s worry and slowly began to speak.

"Even if they regain their demon nature, it’s no big deal. We’ll just have the master provide universal salvation for them again!"

Sun Wukong said with an air of nonchalance.

"Brother Monkey is right, if it’s not stable the first time, it will be even more so the second time. By then, even if they return to Buddhism, there won’t be any problems!"

Sand Monk said with a laugh.

As they spoke, they continued walking forward.

Suddenly, a bamboo forest appeared in front of them.

The mist enshrouded bamboo forest resembled the Immortal Realm.

Zhu Bajie suddenly said, "Brother Monkey, doesn’t this bamboo forest look like the one on South Sea Mount Luojia where Guanyin Bodhisattva lives?"

Sun Wukong nodded and said, "If you hadn’t mentioned it, Old Sun would not have noticed, but now that you make me take a closer look, it does indeed resemble Mount Luojia."

Zhu Bajie said with a laugh, "Could it be that we have taken a wrong turn and ended up at South Sea Mount Luojia?"

Before Sun Wukong could speak, Xuanzang took the initiative to say, "Bajie, don’t talk nonsense. We’ve been heading westward, and we’ve already passed Lion Camel Ridge. Mount Luojia in the South Sea should be getting further and further away from us, it’s impossible for us to have arrived there!"

"It must be that these bamboos are just similar to those on Mount Luojia."

Zhu Bajie said with a smile, "I know, Old Zhu was just making a joke. Why does master take it so seriously?"

At this point, Sun Wukong suddenly said, "Let’s not get caught up in joking around, this bamboo forest really is a bit strange."

"What’s so strange about it? They’re just bamboo shoots. Could it be that all these bamboos are transformed by monsters?"

Zhu Bajie was dismissive.

With a twinkle in his eye, Sun Wukong said with a cold laugh, "It’s indeed possible."

"Ah! They really are transformed by monsters? But we just came out of Lion’s Camel Cave, how can there be monsters again?" Zhu Bajie couldn’t help but frown.

After all, they had slain quite a number of monsters in Lion’s Camel Cave and provided salvation for many as well.

Upon hearing this, Xuanzang also pulled on the horse reins and jumped off the horse’s back.

His gaze shifted all around, but naturally, he didn’t have Sun Wukong’s ability to discern demons and monsters, so he couldn’t see for himself.

"Wukong! What have you detected? Are these bamboos really transformed by monsters?"

With a reassuring smile, Sun Wukong replied, "Master, it’s merely some trivial illusion techniques, not worth worrying about."

At this moment, Sand Monk also joined in, and as he could not see anything amiss, he asked with a frown, "Brother Monkey, what exactly is going on here?"

Laughing, Sun Wukong said, "Haven’t you noticed anything odd about this bamboo forest?"

All three of them shook their heads, and Sun Wukong couldn’t help but explain, "Look ahead, this bamboo forest stretches out as far as the eye can see, and we don’t know how vast it is. Isn’t that strange?"

"Hey! You scared me, Brother Monkey, making a mountain out of a molehill. That old man said before that Lion Camel Ridge is only eight hundred miles in circumference! It’s not surprising to see such a large expanse of bamboo here!"

Zhu Bajie remained unperturbed. Although they had already passed Lion’s Camel Cave, he estimated that they had not yet left the range of Lion Camel Ridge.

"This is where the problem lies," Sun Wukong said with a serious face. "You don’t know that Old Sun has Fiery Golden Eyes that can see for a thousand miles during the daytime. The entirety of Lion Camel Ridge only has an area of eight hundred miles, yet Old Sun can’t see the end of this bamboo forest. Isn’t that suspicious?"

"Moreover, Old Sun clearly remembers that there was a tall mountain not far ahead of us, but after walking for so long, when you look around, it’s flat as a board all around, with bamboo everywhere, no hills or ridges to be seen. Isn’t that suspicious?"

Zhu Bajie scoffed, "Brother Monkey, could it be that you’re being overly suspicious? We’ve already come out of Lion’s Camel Cave, what’s there to fear now?"

"Go away!" Sun Wukong glared at Zhu Bajie without any patience.

At this time, Sand Monk said with a furrowed brow, "Now that Brother Monkey mentions it, I remember that before we entered the bamboo forest, there was indeed a tall mountain ahead, but now it’s nowhere to be seen."

"Could it be that we got lost while walking through the bamboo and bypassed the mountain?"

"The craftsmanship of this forest is uniform throughout, and the mist encircling it makes it very easy to get lost,"

Sun Wukong furrowed his brow in thought, then said, "Although it’s a bit strange, there’s no need to worry too much. Let Old Sun leap into the sky and take a look."

As Sun Wukong spoke, he somersaulted into mid-air, stopping on a cloud, and shading his eyes with his hand, he looked ahead. But all he could see was a sea of bamboo, with no mountains in sight.

Sun Wukong couldn’t help frowning again, then he turned to look to the east, only to see the same sight: a sea of bamboo within thousands of miles in all directions. The south and the north were no different.

Scratching his head and face in frustration, Sun Wukong muttered to himself, "It must be the work of that demon. I didn’t expect to fall for its tricks so carelessly."

After speaking, Sun Wukong descended from the clouds.

Xuanzang, upon seeing Sun Wukong come down, quickly asked, "Wukong, have you figured out what’s going on?"

Sun Wukong, with a creased brow, replied, "Old Sun estimates that we have entered an illusion array laid out by the demon. All this bamboo we see is just an illusion."

Upon hearing this, Xuanzang couldn’t help but furrow his brows. He was versed in universal salvation but had no idea how to deal with an illusion array. He asked anxiously, "What should we do?"

Zhu Bajie said sourly, "Brother Monkey, weren’t you always boasting about your Fiery Golden Eyes? How come you can’t even see through a simple illusion technique today?"

Sun Wukong, somewhat annoyed and embarrassed, retorted, "What do you know? This illusion technique is extremely powerful. I might be able to see through it if I were outside, but once inside the bamboo forest, even my Fiery Golden Eyes can’t penetrate it."

Xuanzang, still frowning, asked, "Wukong, what do you propose we do?"

Sun Wukong glanced at Xuanzang and the rest who were still worried, then said, "Master need not worry; a mere illusion technique cannot stump Old Sun. Once we break through the illusion, we will be able to get out."

Zhu Bajie immediately smiled and said, "That’s why you’re our big brother. Hurry and break this illusion!"

With his brow furrowed, Sun Wukong said, "The illusion before us is all due to these bamboos. If we burn them, the illusion will naturally disappear."

Sand Monk said worriedly, "Big brother, I’m afraid that might not be appropriate."

"Junior Brother Sand, what’s inappropriate about it?"

Zhu Bajie looked at Sand Monk with some surprise and said, "Junior Brother Sand, what do you mean?"

Sand Monk quickly explained, "Big brother, Second Senior Brother, I mean we are all in the bamboo forest. If you set a fire, wouldn’t that burn us all to death?"

"Junior Brother Sand, there’s no need to worry about that. Since big brother is considering it, he surely won’t let the fire get to us that easily!"

Zhu Bajie said with a laugh.

Sun Wukong nodded and added, "Wait for Old Sun to start a fire, then I’ll conjure a breeze to blow only around us. That way, the flames will spread outward and naturally won’t reach us."

Sand Monk nodded and said, "I think big brother’s method will work. I believe this is an illusion array, and the bamboos are the formation eye. If we burn these bamboos, the illusion will naturally be broken."

Sun Wukong nodded, had Xuanzang and the others move back, then opened his mouth and breathed out a jet of flame, setting the bamboo in front of him ablaze in an instant.

Then Sun Wukong conjured an easterly wind, and with the help of the breeze, the fire spread rapidly. Soon the western part of the bamboo forest was engulfed in a sea of flames.

But an astonishing sight occurred. Though the flames grew more intense, the bamboos remained unburnt, standing tall and proud within the blazing inferno, their leaves not even singed or scorched.

"Eh!" Sun Wukong saw this and, frowning with surprise, said, "These bamboos are really odd, not fearing the fire. Old Sun doesn’t believe it can withstand fire and also resist Old Sun’s Jingu Bang."

As he spoke, Sun Wukong pulled out the Jingu Bang from his ear, shook it to the thickness of a bowl and several zhang in length, then raised the Jingu Bang and smashed it down on the bamboos.

With a thunderous "Boom!" the ground shook as ten or so bamboos were knocked down by Sun Wukong’s staff, turning into pieces of light and shadow that dissolved with the wind.

Yet before Sun Wukong had a chance to rejoice, bamboo shoots sprouted from the ground, quickly growing at a visible rate. Within a few breaths, they had reached the height of dozens of zhang, leaving Sun Wukong utterly stunned.

"Ha-ha!" Just then, bursts of loud laughter sounded in the air; it seemed to come from more than one person.

Sun Wukong looked up but saw only clear skies, no one to be seen.

Sun Wukong angrily shouted, "Who’s the coward hiding up there? If you have the guts, come out and face me instead of skulking about!"

"Ha-ha! Sun Wukong, don’t waste your efforts. Just surrender obediently," a voice drifted down from the sky again.

Sun Wukong became furiously angry, looked up, and raising the Jingu Bang roared, "What skill is there in such tactics? If you’ve got the courage, come out and have a fair fight with Old Sun!"

"Sun Wukong, you truly overestimate yourself. Regardless, you cannot escape my grasp. Today, I will let you witness my power," the voice rang out once more.

Subsequently, the bamboo forest in front of them gradually disappeared, revealing the true appearance of Mount Lu.

At that moment, the master and disciples found themselves on a clearing at the foot of a mountain, surrounded by towering trees with not a single bamboo in sight, and the ground was covered in footprints, indicating they had been walking in circles in the same spot with their horse.

Sun Wukong suddenly raised his head to see three demons standing on the hillside: the White Elephant, the Green Fur Lion, and the Golden-Winged Roc.
