Chapter 178 - 179: Golden Cicada Awakens, Destined not to Change

Chapter 178: Chapter 179: Golden Cicada Awakens, Destined not to Change

The golden Buddha hand, immense beyond compare.

It seemed to become a piece of the sky itself, and as it descended now, the power it displayed was so immense that not just two people, but even an entire nation would likely be unable to withstand it.

It could be easily obliterated by this Buddha hand.

"Senior!"

Feeling a sense of despair, Xuanzang couldn’t help but look towards Wang Yang.

At this moment, Wang Yang calmly shook his head, "Just here to take a look, why such a fuss!"

As Wang Yang’s low voice spread, he didn’t exhibit any powerful forces erupting from his body, but simply waved his hand.

And with that wave, an intense aura burst forth instantly.

Boom!

Accompanied by a terrifying boom, the huge Buddha palm that had been falling crumbled apart at this moment, turning into endless Buddha’s light, dispersing between heaven and earth.

Xuanzang was left staring with his mouth agape.

Then, in the next instant, a more dazzling immortal light converged, enveloping Wang Yang and Xuanzang, before flashing brightly and disappearing in an instant from the world.

Following the disappearance of Wang Yang and Xuanzang, the figure shrouded in Buddha’s light let out a soft sound of surprise.

"They actually vanished!"

This Buddha frowned slightly.

He had an aged face and a hunched figure, but his eyes held an unfathomably profound gaze.

It was as if the mysteries of the heavens were evolving therein.

It was none other than the Medicine Buddha, one of the three Buddhas of Buddhism, a Quasi-Saint being.

At this moment, a ray of light shot over from the distance.

The light was filled with dense Immortal Light; it was Emperor Gouchen from the celestial Court, here to suppress this place.

"Buddha Ancestor, have you discovered anything?"

Emperor Gouchen had sensed the Medicine Buddha making a move and had hurried over, but he found no trace of any powerful beings here, which surprised him.

"Just now, this monk sensed a presence approaching. My strike was easily dissolved; however, in the blink of an eye, the person vanished without a trace. I also do not know the identity of the visitor. Truly mysterious!"

Even the Medicine Buddha found it inconceivable.

"Oh?"

This was the first time Gouchen had seen the Medicine Buddha experience such a Transformation.

He too released his Divine Sense to scan the area, but discovered nothing.

He was aware of the intense aura of the Medicine Buddha from just now. If there were no findings, it was unlikely that he would have taken action so suddenly.

"No matter what, we must still be cautious. The Old Demon Race from this area will not give up so easily!"

Emperor Gouchen stated, frowning.

Since they were in Beiju Luzhou, he did not suspect others but thought it was an ambush by the Ancient Demon Race.

The Medicine Buddha’s eyes closed slightly as he pondered the recent events. Clearly, the visitor was not from the Demon Race, but he also had no evidence.

And even he could not infer further—could it be that the visitor’s strength was greater than his own?

"Buddha Ancestor need not worry too much. With us here, surely no Demon Race would dare come this close!"

At this moment, Emperor Gouchen also shook his head, having arrived too late to discover anything.

The inability to infer meant that the visitor’s strength was not weak, at least not inferior to his. It seemed he would need to be more cautious in the future.

The Medicine Buddha also gave up on inferring and nodded slightly towards Emperor Gouchen.

Subsequently, the two disappeared, each returning to their Dojo.

It was as if nothing had happened.

...

And Wang Yang and Xuanzang had already returned to their inn chamber.

"Benefactor, who was that person from Buddhism just now?"

Back at the inn, Xuanzang seemed still a bit shaken, but curiosity prompted him to speak.

At this moment, he was somewhat unnerved. Despite his many years of practicing Buddhist Law, he was after all still made of flesh, and facing such a crisis, he couldn’t remain calm.

The terrifying might he had just witnessed would have turned him into pulp if not for the hidden strength of the person in front of him.

"That person was the Medicine Buddha, one of the three great Buddhas of Buddhism!"

Wang Yang said with a calm smile, his face showing no sign of emotional fluctuation.

For him now, facing even a Quasi-Saint posed no concern.

"Medicine Buddha?"

Upon hearing Wang Yang’s words, Xuanzang was taken aback.

Having chanted Buddha’s name for so many years, he naturally had come across the Medicine Buddha in the scriptures—a highly venerated figure among the three Buddhas of Buddhism.

He had not expected that he would have the chance to see the Buddha in person.

But looking at Wang Yang’s calm gaze, and how a simple wave of his hand had broken the attack of the Medicine Buddha,

Xuanzang looked at Wang Yang with a slight tremble.

He felt an indescribable sensation in his heart.

Perhaps only a terrifying existence like Wang Yang would directly disregard the venerable Medicine Buddha of Buddhism.

After all, the Medicine Buddha had been around for countless millennia.

And that palm strike was enough to destroy heaven and earth.

Yet still, Wang Yang had managed to take him to safety.

The strength of this Wang Yang was at least equal to that of the Medicine Buddha, perhaps even greater.

So, whatever Wang Yang said seemed only natural.

Having understood these things, Xuanzang felt even more reverence for Wang Yang before him.

However, curiosity soon followed.

Since Wang Yang was so powerful, why was there no legend about him in the Calamity of Measurement Divine Enthronement?

He was indeed an Ancient Times reclusive power.

What exactly had happened to cause such a mighty being to vanish from between Heaven and Earth?

After pondering for a moment, he couldn’t imagine.

Xuanzang hesitated, opened his mouth, but somehow found it difficult to speak.

After all, who knew what those events meant to Wang Yang?

"What do you want to say? Speak freely!"

Seemingly perceiving Xuanzang’s hesitant demeanor, Wang Yang directly spoke up.

Upon hearing Wang Yang’s words, Xuanzang finally said, "I was actually wondering, senior, since you are so powerful, you must not be a nobody, yet why is there no legend about you? Or is it that you intentionally stayed hidden from the world for some deep reason?"

Hearing Xuanzang’s question, a curve appeared at the corner of Wang Yang’s mouth.

Xuanzang was finally getting to the heart of the matter.

Since Xuanzang had asked about it, it was a good opportunity for Wang Yang to continue and tell his story.

Wang Yang shifted his body slightly and walked to the window, looking out as if gazing at something beyond his view, giving off a feeling of inscrutable mystery.

"Do you think the world you see is the world you understand? Is everything you see everything you comprehend?"

Wang Yang asked in a seemingly rhetorical manner.

Listening to him, Xuanzang wore a look of astonishment, somewhat at a loss, as even with his many years of contemplation on Buddhist Law, he had never encountered such questions.

While Xuanzang was still bewildered and did not understand what Wang Yang meant, Wang Yang continued to speak.

"In your Buddhist terms, Buddha said ’One Flower One World, One Leaf, One Bodhi’!"

"Isn’t it about comprehending the essence of the world from a flower, perceiving the Buddha’s intent from a single leaf, and thus advancing towards Ultimate Bliss?"

"Understanding the entirety of the world from a flower, discerning the joys and sufferings of the Human World, the world’s dangers, and the world’s affairs!"

"So, is what you see really true? Is the ’me’ you see now the real me?"

Listening to Wang Yang’s words imbued with Zen meaning, Xuanzang was momentarily shaken.

Although he had begun to question the true intent of Buddhism, even so, he still could not fully comprehend.

Yet, these few phrases from Wang Yang seemed to clear away his confusion.

Suddenly, numerous thoughts flooded Xuanzang’s mind.

Some of the meanings within Buddhist Law that he had found incomprehensible now seemed to unravel effortlessly.

However, resolving some questions completely also led to the emergence of some perplexing problems.

Wang Yang, seeing Xuanzang’s expression, couldn’t help but shake his head, not immediately awakening Xuanzang, for understanding the world is not something that can be easily realized.

Especially for someone just beginning to encounter these ideas.

Xuanzang thought over a lot and realized a lot, yet his eyes were still filled with innumerable doubts.

At this moment, looking at Wang Yang with a gaze filled with expectation, hoping that Wang Yang could help him solve these doubts.

"The flower remains the same flower, the world remains the same world; everything is real, yet also unreal!"

"Nothing has changed, it’s your heart that has changed. Once your heart has changed, then everything changes!"

Upon hearing Wang Yang’s words, Xuanzang’s mind surged with overwhelming waves, utterly astonished.

The Wang Yang before him was not only powerful and unfathomable.

But his comprehension of Buddhist Law was so profound, beyond what Xuanzang himself could compare to.

In this lifetime, Wang Yang was undoubtedly the person he had seen who had the deepest understanding of Buddhist Law.

Not long ago, he had wanted to endeavor to bring Universal Salvation to Wang Yang, which now seemed utterly foolish.

For a moment, Xuanzang’s mood grew grave.

Then he looked deeply at Wang Yang and continued, "Disciple Golden Cicada, I thank you profoundly, senior, for your guidance!"

"You... "

Upon hearing Xuanzang’s self-designation, Wang Yang was taken aback.

Then he saw the monk before him become radiant with splendor, with Buddha’s light circling around him.

Unexpectedly, Xuanzang managed to awaken at this moment.

Clearly, their recent discussion of Buddhist Law had triggered Xuanzang’s awakening of his past memories.

"I wish for senior to enlighten me on Buddhist Law!"

Xuanzang greatly admired the ultimate principles of Buddhism, and as he had an epiphany regarding Buddhist Law, it resonated with his past life, thus awakening the memories of Golden Cicada.

But Wang Yang couldn’t help but give a bitter smile.

Discussing Buddhist Law with a high disciple of Buddhist houses was indeed a challenge for him.

Although he wanted to change Golden Cicada’s destiny, it was not that easy.

Considering that Buddhist Law was drawing him now, his memory awakening was not complete, and soon that strong Buddhist aura faded away.

It became quite ordinary.

Clearly, the memory of Golden Cicada fell back into slumber.

Unable to change Golden Cicada’s fortune, all was in vain.

After all, as one of the most key figures in the Calamity of Measurement Journey to the West, he was destined to undergo ten lifetimes of Reincarnation, which was unavoidable.

"Wait until you remember later to discuss it further!"

Wang Yang sighed, fearing that any change now would be futile; once Xuanzang’s memories from this life dissipated, everything would have to start anew.

"Benefactor..."
