Chapter 942: Seven hundred investment
"Human King, wait, please wait!"
On the ocean surface, a huge Black Tortoise poked its head out and called out to Jiang Chen from afar.
"Black Tortoise?"
A look of curiosity appeared on Jiang Chen’s face. Although this turtle resembled a tortoise, its tail was that of a snake.
A tortoise-snake body was precisely the Black Tortoise!
"Could it be that the Black Tortoise wants to meet with me?" Once the Black Tortoise approached him, Jiang Chen asked.
"Indeed, the ancestor knew that the Human King was passing through here and specifically asked me to wait here to invite you to the North Pole for a talk." The Black Tortoise nodded, acting upon the command of the Black Tortoise Sacred Beast.
"Since it’s an invitation from the Black Tortoise elder, how could Jiang Chen refuse? Please lead the way, my friend." Although Jiang Chen did not know why the Black Tortoise wanted to meet him, he did not refuse and agreed to go with a positive attitude.
Not to mention he was quite curious about the five great sacred beasts, but then, with an invitation from a Sacred Beast, was there any reason for him to decline? With the word ’sacred’ in their name, their strength was imaginable.
If Jiang Chen had been the Human Sovereign, he might have been able to assert himself in their presence, but he was only the Human King, so he better forget about it. If they got upset and beat him up, he’d just have to bear it.
"Please follow me, Human King!"
This Black Tortoise possessed the cultivation of an Innate Dao Sovereign, yet it was extremely respectful in front of Jiang Chen, keeping a very low profile and cautiously leading the way.
This was the difference brought about by a change in status. If Jiang Chen hadn’t been the Human King, and his strength far surpassed this Black Tortoise, he wouldn’t have been treated this way. As descendants of a sacred beast, the Black Tortoise clan surely had its pride.
Unfortunately for the Black Tortoise, Jiang Chen was the Human King. Since the Human Race became the protagonists of Heaven and Earth, they had received the mandate of Heaven. To become the Human King was to take on that mandate, and those with the Heavenly Mandate were the Human King.
A Human King with the Heavenly Mandate was an enforcer of the Heavenly Will. Who in the Prehistoric World, internal and external, would dare to treat him lightly? Even Great Divine Transcendents wouldn’t dare, let alone a mere Innate Dao Sovereign.
...
The Black Tortoise Sacred Beast originated from the same era as Hongjun Daozu, being among the first batch of living beings born after the creation of Heaven and Earth. Active at the dawn of creation and famous during the Dragon-Han era, it was the ally of the Ancestral Dragon, with whom it ruled the line of scaled and armored creatures.
Later, a great war broke out among the three clans, disrupting the balance of Heaven and Earth and causing chaos in the four poles, with the land on the verge of collapse.
To save the world and redeem themselves, the five top-tier Great Divine Transcendents, who were the leaders of the three clans—namely the Ancestral Dragon and Black Tortoise from the scaled and armored lineage, the Ancestral Phoenix from the avian lineage, and the Qilin and White Tiger from the beast lineage—made a grand pledge. They were willing to transform into Sacred Beasts to suppress the four poles of the earth and calm the catastrophe.
Since then, the leaders of the three clans vanished, but five sacred beasts appeared in the world: the Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise, White Tiger, and Qilin, each possessing power to rival that of a Saint. The cost was their eternal freedom. Only during great calamities of Heaven and Earth could they be released to get a breath of fresh air.
As a water-element Sacred Beast, the Black Tortoise controlled the North Pole, and the North Pole was within the Northern Netherworld. It could be said that the North Pole was the key to the Northern Netherworld. Over countless years, none dared to cause trouble in the Northern Netherworld. Was it the Kunpeng they feared? Not at all—it was the Sacred Beast Black Tortoise they dreaded.
"My friend, do you know why the Black Tortoise elder wants to meet me?" On the way to the North Pole, Jiang Chen asked the Black Tortoise beside him with curiosity, hoping to learn why the Black Tortoise wished to see him.
"I also do not know. In fact, before the ancestor wanted to meet with the Human King, I didn’t even know that the ancestor was acquainted with you."
The Black Tortoise replied honestly, puzzled as well. There had been no interaction between them, so why did the ancestor wish to meet Jiang Chen?
"That is..."
"Then it seems that I’ll have to ask the Sacred Beast elder in person when I see him."
As they conversed, the land of the North Pole appeared before them.
It was an ocean, a black ocean, not very large, spanning about a hundred miles or so. But that was just the appearance. The water here was the essence of water itself, each drop exceedingly heavy. In the mortal realm, it could transform into an entire ocean.
"Human King, this is the North Pole. Only with the ancestor’s command can one freely enter and exit. Without such permission, even an Innate Dao Sovereign would be dissolved by the water’s essence within moments should they venture inside thoughtlessly," the Black Tortoise said.
The Black Tortoise spoke up, instructing Jiang Chen to stand on its back so it could carry him inside.
However, before Jiang Chen could act, a point of light suddenly appeared in the center of the black ocean, swiftly enlarging and forming a rainbow bridge that extended to Jiang Chen’s feet.
"This is..."
"Human King, it seems the ancestor holds you in high regard, lowering a rainbow bridge to welcome you. This is the treatment for an honored guest," said the Black Tortoise in surprise, finding it unbelievable. The Human King was extraordinary, but was he worth such a gesture from the ancestor?
"My friend, since the elder has invited me, I shall make my way first." Jiang Chen smiled, stepped onto the rainbow bridge, and walked towards the depths of the North Pole.
The four poles of the world each held their marvels; as Jiang Chen entered, he immediately felt the space around him change, as if he had arrived in a world composed entirely of water. In every direction, there were nothing but vast seas.
Jiang Chen was unconcerned and continued forward without pausing, until he arrived at the end of the rainbow bridge on a small island. In the center of the island, there stood a kindly-faced old man, smiling warmly at him.
Yet bizarrely, although he stood right in front of Jiang Chen, Jiang Chen couldn’t sense his presence at all, and despite using all means at his disposal, he couldn’t detect even a hint of his aura.
