Chapter 852: Shocking news
"What we, the Human Race, have done doesn’t compare to one ten-thousandth of the Demon Clan’s actions back in their days. If you witnessed the means of the Demon Clan, you would know what true excessiveness is,"
a Jiang Family expert snorted coldly and said to the people around him.
"Our race is still too kind. For these monsters, we should replicate exactly what the Demon Clan did in the past and enact it all over again on their bodies. Then they would naturally understand what true excessiveness and true cruelty are,"
another revered figure from the Jiang Family said, with a tone laden with boundless intent to kill.
"As for how the Demon Clan behaved, although I’ve heard the legends, I’ve never seen them with my own eyes. But today, I’ve truly opened my eyes to the tyranny of the Human Race,"
Elder Bai sighed and replied with a detached tone. While he did not say it explicitly, his words mocked the tyranny of the Human Race and subtly hinted at the others fabricating rumors.
After all, the Demon Clan had fallen into decline for who knew how many years now, and most of the tales about them had been lost to history. How could the people know what they had done without having experienced it themselves?
"Yes, Elder Bai is right. As for the acts of the Ancient demon clan, we’ve never seen them for ourselves, so of course, whatever the Human Race says must be true. Yet today, we’ve witnessed the tyranny of the Human Race with our own eyes,"
"We of the Immortal Dao say ’kill’ and kill, not even giving a reason, as if we’re nothing in their eyes,"
someone in the shadows voiced out, attempting to stir enmity among the nearby masters toward the Human Race, to unite them against Jiang Chen and his companions.
"Seeking death!"
The eyes of the Sky Demon turned icy, and with a fierce reach, he pressed towards the void. Immediately, a shrill scream was heard, as a flash of blood appeared from the void and then all was silent.
It was the very person who had spoken from the shadows, discovered by the Sky Demon and captured, killed on the spot, completely annihilated in both body and spirit.
"You..."
Seeing yet another master killed by the Sky Demon, the atmosphere suddenly tensed, as nearby masters silently gathered together, looking toward Jiang Chen and his group with full hostility.
"Fellow Daoist, you’ve gone too far. If you say that my disciple spoke out of turn and that your killing him was excessive yet arguably justifiable,"
"yet the fellow Daoist just now only spoke a few words about the overbearance of the Human Race, and you brutally killed him, showing your own ruthless methods,"
"Clad in heavenly armor, wielding a heavenly spear, yet you commit such reckless acts. Do you even have the Heavenly Rules in your eyes? After this matter is resolved, I will certainly take it to Heaven Court for an explanation. I will ask the Jade Emperor, has it come to be that the heavenly soldiers can just kill indiscriminately?"
Knowing that targeting Jiang Chen’s identity as a member of the Human Race was useless, Elder Bai swiftly changed his approach, now bringing up the Heavenly Rules and speaking of lodging a complaint with Heaven Court.
"Right, let’s take this to Heaven Court. Even if they are heavenly soldiers, they can’t just kill people at will in Dongsheng Divine Continent. We must have an explanation. We don’t believe that the vast Heaven Court has no place for reason,"
the crowd’s emotions were stirred by Elder Bai’s words, and they clamored in agreement, demanding that Jiang Chen account for his actions, and if not, escalate the issue so that Heaven Court provides an explanation.
"Fellow Daoist, that’s enough now, aren’t you tired of all this acting? With the power of an Innate Dao Sovereign at your command, if you really wanted to save them, it would’ve been as easy as reaching out your hand. How could you have let them die miserably in front of you?"
"You clearly didn’t want to intervene, which is evident in your unwillingness to save them. Since you’ve no intention of rescuing them, why put on this façade of righteous indignation after their deaths? What’s the point of this pretense?"
"It’s funny, really, seeing how hard you try to deceive us with your act,"
Jiang Chen couldn’t help but interrupt Elder Bai as he was about to speak further. He was busy and had no time to play along with Elder Bai’s theatrics, so he bluntly exposed Elder Bai’s true colors without any courtesy.
"What? An Innate Dao Sovereign?!"
"Elder Bai actually possesses the cultivation of an Innate Dao Sovereign! But how is that possible? If he truly had such cultivation, why didn’t he intervene when the two fellow Daoists were in trouble earlier?"
As Jiang Chen’s voice fell, the surrounding masters immediately looked shocked — first manifesting disbelief, then their glances toward Elder Bai shifted to suspicion, their hearts filling with distrust and wariness.
No wonder they reacted as such. Jiang Chen’s revelation was too startling, stripping Elder Bai of his disguise and causing everyone to lose trust in him.
Indeed, as an Innate Dao Sovereign, wouldn’t saving people be a simple task? Yet why hadn’t he acted, watching his own disciple and the Immortal Dao masters who supported him die miserably?
What were his true objectives? Could it be to gain everyone’s sympathy so as to use it to his advantage?
Once the seed of doubt was planted, it grew uncontrollably, and the trust and admiration that people had for Elder Bai turned into nutrients, feeding the ever-growing seed of suspicion.
Of course, the crowd did not fully believe Jiang Chen’s words either; their looks toward him were similarly filled with doubt, waiting for him to provide more evidence to prove that Elder Bai indeed had the cultivation of an Innate Dao Sovereign.
"Esteemed Emperor Lord, you seem to have taken this joke too far. I am merely a Great Luo Golden Immortal; how dare I claim to be an Innate Dao Sovereign? You flatter me too much,"
feeling a sudden lurch in his heart, Elder Bai had not expected his well-concealed cultivation to be seen through by Jiang Chen. Yet he managed to conjure up a faint smile and adamantly denied the claim.
Elder Bai understood the gravity of the situation; at this point, he could not acknowledge his true cultivation, for if he did, his efforts of tens of thousands of years would be wasted, not to mention the persona he’d worked so hard to build would also collapse.
