Journey to the West: I have Nine Golden Crows Inside Me
Chapter 420: Four Zero Four Suppression

Chapter 420: Four Zero Four Suppression

The people from the Ancestral Land felt indignant as they had never suffered such humiliation. Their hearts were filled with rage. If not for the fear of offending Jiang Chen, they would’ve lost their temper long ago.

Even so, their faces remained stoic, their expressions turning uglier by the minute, evident of the rage they were forcefully suppressing.

Xia Zicheng, on the other hand, kept his composure. As a prince, his wisdom and intellect were not second-rate, so he immediately understood they were unjustly caught in this predicament.

"Your Highness, what’s going on, should we continue waiting?" whispered the envoy who was with Xia Zicheng.

Xia Zicheng shook his head and answered in a low voice, "Can’t you see? The king is dissatisfied with the people from the Ancestral Land and is intentionally making them wait under the guise of seclusion."

"As for us, we were just unlucky to arrive when they did, and so we have to endure the same treatment."

Xia Zicheng was also very frustrated, however, he had no other solution at hand. He only hoped now that the dispute between Jiang Chen and the Ancestral Land would not involve him.

He was just a prince. Both the Ancestral Land and the Jiang Family were formidable entities in his eyes, and he couldn’t afford to offend them. If his father were here, things would be different.

Looking at the increasingly disgruntled faces of the people from the Ancestral Land, Xia Zicheng sighed inwardly, "Damned bad luck, why did I have to take on such a fatal task?"

At this moment, Yihai entered and said to Xia Zicheng, "Prince of the Xia Family, my master is out of seclusion and he wishes to see you."

Upon hearing this, Xia Zicheng quickly stood up, addressing Yihai, "The King has emerged from seclusion and wants to meet me? Alright, I will go at once."

While speaking, Xia Zicheng didn’t forget to tidy his attire, ensuring he looked presentable before following Yihai to the Cangtian Hall.

Courtesy is of paramount importance to the Xia!

All historically-established clans value courtesy, and the Xia Family, being a royal lineage, was no exception - they would always keep themselves across proper etiquette and manners.

Seeing that Yihai didn’t even look at them and was about to leave, the visitors from the Ancestral Land rose to their feet and asked, "Commander Yihai, since the King has come out of seclusion, why hasn’t he come to meet us?"

Without turning back, Yihai said, "I do not know, I am just following orders. The King only said he wanted to meet the Xia Family prince, he didn’t mention you. Just wait here patiently, the King will see you when it’s time."

After this reply, Yihai left with Xia Zicheng.

"This is too much, he clearly doesn’t take us seriously."

"Indeed, in the past, we’ve seen other royal descendants and they’ve all been polite. Who does he think he is, acting so arrogantly and showing no respect for his elders?"

"Since he doesn’t want to see us, let’s leave! And we’ll take the gifts from the Ancestral Land too, let him be satisfied with nothing."

After Yihai left, someone in the hall started shouting angrily. Some even demanded to take the gifts from the Ancestral Land and leave altogether.

Of course, Jiang Chen knew nothing about this and didn’t care either way. At the moment, his focus was on King Xia’s letter.

In the letter, the King first expressed his apologies and detailed the punishment he would imply on the Xiahou family...

Well, these were not important. Jiang Chen did not go into detail. His focus was on the last part of the letter, a gift - a plume of Mystic Bird.

Mystic Bird, the totem of the Great Shang. That the Xia Family possessed a Mystic Bird totem artifact didn’t surprise Jiang Chen.

The fall of Xia at the hands of Shang wasn’t accomplished without any loss. It was common for the two dynasties to possess each other’s artifacts after numerous battles.

Jiang Chen didn’t care about the so-called feud between these two families. After all, they were essentially one family, descended from Emperor Huang and Xuanyuan. Their disagreements were in fact an internal matter of the Ji Family.

Now, with the Mystic Bird feather in his possession, Jiang Chen had gathered the seven Innate feathers required and could start preparing to forge the Innate Spiritual Treasure, the Five Fires and Seven Birds Fan.

This was a genuine Innate Spiritual Treasure. High-grade, this was not the fake and inferior product Jiang Chen had previously made, merely an Innate Magic Treasure.

After accepting the compensation gifts, Jiang Chen asked Xia Zicheng, "I see you’re a Golden Immortal. Among the seventy-two princes and princesses of the Great Xia, what’s your standing?"

In the Great Xia Dynasty, there were seventy-two royal members who held the title of prince or princess. Not all of them were direct descendants of King Xia.

The inheritance system of the Xia Dynasty included both passing the throne to the brother of the deceased king and to the oldest son which means not only children of King Xia but also his brothers and their children were eligible to inherit the throne.

In essence, all members of the Xia royal family were eligible for the throne. Hence, any prodigious members of the royal family would be conferred the title of prince or princess - giving them a chance to vie for the throne.

The seventy-two princes and princesses were the finest of the Xia royal family, and only a few of them were King Xia’s children.

Xia Zicheng was one of the very few offspring of King Xia, making his status highly esteemed.

Although unsure of Jiang Chen’s intentions, Xia Zicheng answered truthfully, "Your Majesty, due to my limited abilities, I can hardly make it to the top ten among my siblings."
