Journey to the West: I have Nine Golden Crows Inside Me
Chapter 299 - 299 Two Eight Eight Fengdu

299: Two Eight Eight Fengdu 299: Two Eight Eight Fengdu “Ah, what a pain,” sighed Jiang Chen.

Annoyed, he stared at the souls stuck in the void, unwilling to be reincarnated.

Wow did he care what unfinished business they had, Jiang Chen wasn’t interested in helping them resolve their lingering regrets.

But the troublesome part was that these guys didn’t want to reincarnate, and Jiang Chen had to find a place for them to stay.

At one moment, the vortex disappeared, the reincarnation channel closed, taking a majority of souls to do for their rebirth, but some remained.

Jiang Chen counted…

around a million or so.

These souls that insist on sticking around on earth…

if there wasn’t a suitable place for them, there were only two outcomes.

One, they would gradually dissipate with the passage of time, vanishing without a trace.

Two, they would start soaking in the mundane world’s impurities, gradually degenerating into malicious ghosts or other kinds of evil spirits, causing harm to the living.

If the former were the case, then it’s alright, they bought their own doom—they refused reincarnation and insisted on stagnating in the living realm.

They could blame no one if they were scattered to the winds.

If it’s the latter, that would be troublesome.

The chaos caused by the ghosts just ended in the Shu Region, and it was time for recovery.

No way can a second ghost rebellion occur.

Even if it was on a small scale, it wouldn’t do.

When the Reincarnation Channel closed, Those stubborn souls that didn’t want to reincarnate were quite aware that Jiang Chen was not in the best of moods.

One of the ghosts opened its mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, but Jiang Chen didn’t give them the chance.

All he did was furrow his brow, mutter something, and then gather all the ghosts through his Netherworld Banner.

Then Jiang Chen turned to his disciples below and commanded, “All of you hurry up and mine the Yin Stones from the mountain, I’m planning to build a Ghost City at the foot of Qingcheng Mountain.”

The purpose was, of course, to house these stubborn souls.

Since they refused to reincarnate, Jiang Chen decided he had to prevent them from causing trouble by building a city to house them or rather, confine them.

Once corralled and managed properly, prevented from wandering in the mortal realm, these ghosts would eventually tire of their solitude and go to the Underworld to reincarnate willingly.

“The Master’s orders shall be obeyed!” the disciples responded, but didn’t understand Jiang Chen’s true intentions, they just accepted his commands without asking questions.

Not long after, the once tranquil Qingcheng Mountain was revitalized.

Sounds of stones being shattered echoed all over the mountain.

That was none other than the disciples of Shangqing Palace mining Yin Stones from Qingcheng Mountain.

Yin Stones, as the name implies, are stones formed from concentrations of yin energy in particularly yin environments.

For ghosts, these stones are perfect for nurturing their spiritual bodies.

They are not common objects, but their value is not less than ordinary Fairy Stones.

Building a city from Yin Stones requires a tremendous amount of material.

If it was any other place steeped in yin energy, gathering this many Yin Stones may have been difficult.

But not so on Qingcheng Mountain.

It had as many Yin Stones as needed.

Let alone building one city, ten would not be a problem.

When the pathway between the two realms was opened, the yin energy that had been accumulating within the Netherworld erupted all at once.

Qingcheng Mountain was influenced by it and almost turned into an entirely yin mountain.

Its grounds were basically teeming with Yin Stones.

It could be said to be virtually unlimited.

With this, the Shangqing Palace’s disciples were extracting stones to build a city.

Bingo.

No wonder Jiang Chen wanted to build the Ghost City at the foot of Qingcheng Mountain.

Impacted by the inter-realm channel, the land under Qingcheng Mountain was no longer part of the mortal realm and at the same time, it wasn’t in the Netherworld.

It existed in-between the two realms, at the brink of life and death, and between the two Yin and Yang energies.

This place was unique, suitable for both humans and ghosts.

The foot of Qingcheng Mountain could be considered as a natural fusion area for both humans and ghosts.

Jiang Chen took advantage of the time when his disciples were mining Yin Stones and went to the foot of the mountain to find a suitable location for the Ghost City.

Qingcheng Mountain was vast, occupying an area of millions of miles with considerable distance between the peaks – so much so that a large plateau could fit between two adjacent peaks.

All these plateaus were great for building cities, but they weren’t suitable for the Ghost City.

After all, it was to be a city for ghosts and it shouldn’t be too far from the inter-realm channel.

In the end, after a long search, Jiang Chen found a gigantic gorge not far from the inter-realm channel.

It spanned hundreds of miles – a perfect location for Ghost City.

What made this place stand out was not just its proximity to the inter-realm channel and its rich Yin energy atmosphere but more importantly, from the main peak of Qingcheng Mountain, the whole area of the gorge can be seen without obstruction.

In other words, no matter how much as a leaf rustles in this city, it would be noticed by the people of the Shangqing Palace instantly.

This city of ghosts was a center of gathering of the sinister, precautions were in order.

Jiang Chen couldn’t just establish the city and leave it be.

He was to set a constant surveillance in order to prevent anything from going wrong in the Ghost City, and to keep an eye in case any of the ghosts inside degenerated into malicious spirits.

Of course, Jiang Chen wasn’t knowledgeable about building a city, and neither did it bother him much.

Once he had decided to establish the city, he had sent Sun Wukong back to Huaguo Mountain to fetch the divine worker in charge of constructing the Divine Palace.

Jiang Chen might not have been proficient in building cities, but the celestial workers of Heaven surely were, and they were the best at it.

As time flew by, three months had already passed.

And in these three months, a lot had happened.

For instance, a gigantic city, that radiated dignity amidst its eerie ambience, shot up from the ground in the gorge at the foot of Qingcheng Mountain.

It stood there connected to the Netherworld.

This was the Ghost City that Jiang Chen had intended to construct.

The celestial workers had worked efficiently.

Once given the material, they constructed the Ghost City according to Jiang Chen’s instructions.

In just twenty days, the Ghost City was built.

During the next ten days, Jiang Chen spent three days engraving Array Patterns on the city walls and created a giant Spiritual Gathering Array to gather Yin energy from all directions.

The remaining seven days were spent placing the ghosts into the city from his Netherworld Banner.

Even though the city rules, authority structure, and other such things were not yet ready and needed perfection…

None of these concerns had anything to do with Jiang Chen.

Zhang Ling had come out of seclusion and as usual, all the vermin fell on him, the poor cheap disciple.

Arriving at the Ghost City and seeing the empty gate, Zhang Ling said to Jiang Chen, “Master, the Ghost City is built.

Why not give it a name?”

Jiang Chen nodded, “Indeed, it should have a name.

‘Ghost City’ doesn’t quite have a good ring to it.”

Now, what name could be good?

For a moment, Jiang Chen was at a loss.

Just as he was hesitating, a familiar voice rang abruptly in his ears: “How about calling this city ‘Fengdu’?”

Ps: It’s the end of the month, humbly asking for monthly tickets.
