Chapter 98: His good luck charm
Chapter 98: His good luck charm
Chris’s eyes fluttered open once again, this time to the gentle warmth that enveloped him. The realization hit him in stages—the soft pressure against his back, the steady rise and fall of breath near his ear, the arm draped carefully over his side. Confusion tangled with a flutter of nerves, and he glanced down to see Sky’s arm wrapped around him, holding him in a tender embrace. It was then that he noticed how their bodies were pressed close together, fitting almost perfectly against each other.
For a moment, Chris’s mind raced, his thoughts a jumble of bewilderment and a hint of something else. He couldn’t help but notice the contrast between this close, almost intimate connection and the emotional distance Sky had tried to maintain earlier. As the realization settled in, he felt his cheeks grow warm, a mixture of surprise and a strange sense of comfort washing over him.
He couldn’t believe it—Sky was spooning him. It was an unexpected turn of events, and yet somehow, in the quiet morning light, it felt oddly right. But he knew he had to leave there before Sky woke up. However, a soft, almost hesitant voice broke the silence, and Chris turned his head slightly to meet his gaze.
"Morning,"
"You’re awake." Chris sounded surprised. Because... Sky was awake!
He made the first move and quickly sat up, giving up the warmth.
Sky also sat up, looking exhausted and funny with hair all over his face.
Chris didn’t mention the unexpected embrace or whatever had transpired the night before. Instead, he ventured, "Don’t you have a morning class?"
He stood up and went to his bed.
Sky’s lips quirked into a small smile, and he nodded. "Not exactly early. So I wanted to catch a few extra minutes of sleep first."
Chris nodded in understanding. "Well, I hope... your sleep wasn’t uncomfortable."
Sky shook his head, and his expression relaxed. "Nah, it’s all good." Their eyes locked. "And less cold."
Chris pursed his lips, willing his face not to reveal any emotion as he nodded.
"Had a good sleep?" Sky asked him.
Chris shrugged casually and returned to his naughty self, remarking, "A better morning, actually. Can’t remember the last time I woke up to a pretty face staring at me."
Sky let out a laugh, and his amused voice filled the room. "Oh, so you’re used to waking up to pretty faces, huh?"
Chris still tried to keep that air of nonchalance around him, but the smile playing on his lips gave him away until he grinned.
"Well," Chris quipped, a grin tugging at his lips, "not every day, but you know, occasionally."
Sky raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a mischievous smile. "I see. So, which of those faces is the prettiest?"
Chris pretended to ponder this for a moment, his finger tapping against his chin. "Hmm, tough choice. But I think I’ll go with the one that has the best sense of humour."
Sky laughed; the sound was infectious and genuine. "You’re terrible at dodging questions, you know that?"
Pot calling kettle black.
Chris shrugged, his smile widening. "Guilty as charged. But in all honesty, I think the prettiest face is...
Drumroll...
"The one staring back at me in the mirror."
Sky’s laughter filled the room, a warm and comforting sound that echoed in the air. It was a simple moment, a shared joke between friends, and yet it held a certain depth that Chris cherished.
As the laughter subsided, Sky’s gaze met Chris’s, the playfulness in his eyes giving way to a more sincere expression. "Thanks for this, Chris. For everything."
Chris’s smile softened, and a warmth settled in his chest. "Anytime, Sky. You know I’m here for you, right?"
Sky’s nod was accompanied by a genuine smile, the kind that reached his eyes and made Chris’s heart skip a beat. "Yeah, I do. And I appreciate it."
Sky got off the bed. Chris could sense a certain reluctance in his movements. He gathered his things slowly. Finally, he turned to look at Chris, his expression a mix of emotions. "I guess I should get going. Have a good day, Chris."
Chris smiled warmly, wishing he would stay some more. But then he said quietly, "You too, Sky."
As Sky headed toward the door, he glanced back one last time, his gaze lingering on Chris. There was something unspoken between them—a weight in the air that seemed to hang for a moment before Sky finally left, closing the door behind him.
Alone in the room, Chris’s thoughts drifted back to the conversation they had shared the night before. He remembered asking Sky to move back to the dorm, a step that felt significant for reasons he couldn’t fully explain. Sky had hesitated, his uncertainty palpable, before finally saying they would have to discuss it another time and that he was feeling sleepy.
Chris sighed softly, his mind retracing the lines of their friendship. There was something between them—a connection that had grown stronger over time. He felt a mix of hope and concern, unsure of where their relationship was headed but determined to face whatever challenges lay ahead. Since he had decided to chase this, nothing was going to deter him. He was Christopher Owen. The only son of his parents.
With resolve in his heart, Chris got out of bed, ready to face the day with a newfound determination. Whatever the future held, he was certain that he would be able to navigate it.

Chris settled into his seat in the classroom, pulling out his notebook and pen as he waited for the lecture to begin. Before he knew it, Rachel plopped down beside him, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
"Have you seen the school bulletin?" Rachel asked, her eyes dancing with excitement.
Chris blinked in confusion. "Bulletin? I didn’t even know those existed."
Rachel burst into laughter, her amusement contagious. "Oh, you’re so out of touch sometimes, Chris. Well, you’re in for a surprise. The Dean decided to award some students out of the blue, and guess who’s on that list?"
Chris’s reaction was deliberately exaggerated, his eyes widening in mock astonishment. "No way! Who could it be?"
Rachel rolled her eyes playfully. "Sky and Rain, of course. I bet they’re over the moon right now." Her voice held a hint of envy.
Chris managed to hide his grin behind a feigned expression of cluelessness, even though he was secretly pleased to hear the news. It seemed like his efforts to cheer up Sky had paid off after all. The dean was trustworthy indeed. But then, a small twinge of doubt crossed his mind—had he done the wrong by not adding Rachel’s name to the list of recipients for other benefits? He pushed the thought aside, reminding himself that he was just trying to make Sky feel better, and this was the only way he could do that.
Just as the lecturer walked in, Chris’s phone dinged, signalling a new message. He quickly checked his phone, and before he could check the message, another message came in. This one was from Rain. He instantly opened the message.
Rain’s message was filled with excitement, asking if he had seen the bulletin and expressing how thrilled she was about it. Chris’s heart warmed at her enthusiasm.
And decided to text her later since the class had started, and as he exited it, he realized that the first message he had received was from Sky and opened it at once.
Unlike Rain’s, Sky’s message, on the other hand, had a more smug tone to it. It read:
(Seems like even the dean wants my attention now. Bribing me with gifts.)
Chris couldn’t help but chuckle to himself as he read the message, but then he remembered that he was in class and composed himself, looking up to be sure he hadn’t caught the lecturer’s attention.
Confirming that he was safe, he was about to text Sky his congratulations when another message came in from him.
(Sugar daddy mode back on.) The message came with a wink emoticon at the end.
It seemed like Sky was back to his usual playful self, and Chris was relieved to see that he was in a better mood.
(How do you feel about this?) Chris secretly texted.
(About being your sugar daddy?) Sky asked.
(Lol. About the award, idiot.) Chris chuckled.
Sky, (Oh... lol. It was unexpected. I don’t know. I just...)
Sky, (It’s great. I don’t even know how to feel.)
(But you are happy?) Chris asked just to be sure.
Sky, (Are you kidding me????)
Sky, (I am excited beyond words!)
Chris smiled, feeling proud of what he had done.
Sky, (You are my good luck charm.)
Chris grinned at the message until he felt a pinch on his thigh from Rachel. He looked up to find her glaring, then she gestured at the lecturer walking towards them.
Chris put away his phone and focused on the class material. But in the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but smile at the messages he had received.
