Chapter 73: "Then... how do I look at you?"

In the heart of a bustling city, the bright lights illuminated the luxury hotel room where Sky lay on the bed, his face pale and weary. Chris sat on the bed beside him with his back resting against the headboard. He had been unable to sleep due to worry for Sky’s well-being since he was sick, and his face was constantly etched with lines of discomfort, but he had eventually managed to doze off at some point. However, feeling Sky stir alerted Chris, who opened his eyes at once and looked down at him.

Chris had left the bedside lamp on but dim, so the soft glow of the lamp illuminated the room, especially allowing him to see Sky in case he was in any kind of discomfort, just like right now.

Sky wanted to throw up.

Chris quickly helped him up and led him to the bathroom, gently rubbing his back as Sky emptied his gut inside the toilet.

He helped him up and led him to the sink for him to rinse his mouth, and he also gave him a toothbrush with toothpaste since he hadn’t troubled Sky to do it before. And after he did, Chris carefully patted his mouth dry with a towel.

Sky still looked sick. His eyes were still droopy, and his movement was still unsteady. Whatever he had been fed still had a strong effect. But at least he could trust Sky to not fall without being held now. However, he still held his hand as he led him back to the bedroom.

Sky looked around, almost lost at where they were currently, but his facial expression relaxed. He seemed to have remembered.

"Do you feel discomfort anywhere else?" Chris asked in a worried tone as he made Sky sit on the bed and sat down beside him, placing a hand on his forehead to feel his temperature. He was warm.

"Why are you still up?" Sky whispered.

Chris wanted to tell him that it wasn’t important and to tell him how he was feeling and if he needed anything, but Sky weakly added in a lighter tone, "Don’t tell me you’re not sleeping because the room is too luxurious and you just want to look at it all night?"

Chris laughed softly, shaking his head. He was happy to see that he, at least, was able to joke even now.

"You got me there," Chris responded while still laughing.

Sky’s face was serious this time as he apologized.

"I’m sorry for causing you discomfort. I didn’t mean to ruin your fun weekend." His eyes drooped, and he almost fell on the bed when Sky caught him and held him up.

"You should sleep properly." He helped Sky well into the bed and covered him with the duvet before he remembered to ask if he was still cold or needed the heater turned off.

Sky mentioned it was a little hot, so Chris turned on the AC and settled in beside him under the duvet, the two of them facing each other.

Even though Sky was a bit sane now, he still looked sick and sounded weak. He didn’t even look completely sober.

"Talk to me," Sky said quietly with his eyes closed.

"How’s your head?"

"Just a little headache."

"And your back?"

"It hurts only a little."

Chris wanted to suggest going to the hospital at dawn, but he decided to wait until morning to see if he would improve, and if he didn’t, he believed Sky would be more clear-headed to realize why going to the hospital was important.

"Do you remember what happened earlier and how you got here?"

"Some... parts are unclear. But... I thought it was a dream. Until I saw you here."

That was sweet.

Chris suppressed a smile from forming.

"What did you think was a dream?"

"I was talking to you in my head. And then you showed up at the garden like magic—"

Chris laughed in amusement. "It wasn’t in your head. You called me."

Sky opened his eyes. "Really? Why?" Sky sounded confused. Like he didn’t believe that.

"Maybe because I am too special to you, so you thought about me first when you needed someone." Chris joked.

Sky looked at him closely, muttering, "You smell nice."

Nope.

"I don’t. That’s your drugged hormones thinking so. Relax." Chris said to him calmly.

Sky still looked at him, his eyes pleading as he said, "Let... me hug you for a bit."

"What?"

Nope. No, no, nope!

"Just a little. I don’t feel good." Sky pleaded.

Chris didn’t want to. He knew Sky was not in his right mind. Whatever drug he had been fed was heightening his hormones so that he could pick up on any kind of pheromone around him. But with a resigned sigh, he opened his arms for Sky to come closer, and he did, leaving his pillow to cuddle closely with Chris, his forehead pressing directly on Chris’s chest.

Chris let him do as he pleased. He could even feel Sky smelling him and hugging him tightly.

This wasn’t good.

He really didn’t like this position, but his concern for Sky’s health overcame everything. He gently stroked his hair as he continued engaging him in a conversation.

"Do you know who drugged you? You were in a very bad state."

"I’m... not sure, Chris. I accepted drinks from different people, so I can’t pinpoint who did it."

Well, Sky would need to do a lot of thinking when he was sober because Chris was definitely not going to let this matter die just like that. Even if it meant having the police pick up everyone who had been at that party and take them to the police station. He was going to do that.

"You did well leaving the room when you didn’t feel good." He said as he continued stroking his hair softly.

He didn’t want to imagine what could have happened if he hadn’t escaped.

"You’re so nice to me," Sky said weakly.

Chris let out a chuckle. "I think it’s the other way around."

"No. People don’t put up with me like you do. They don’t like me."

Was he kidding him?

"Many people like you. Don’t kid yourself."

"They only want to have sex with me."

Uhm... okay...

"And you are certain I do not want to have sex with you?" Chris joked.

Sky didn’t answer immediately, and then he softly withdrew from Chris, causing a moment of panic for him as he wondered if he had taken the joke too far.

But Sky didn’t move away. He just withdrew himself enough to look at Chris’s face as he said, "You don’t exactly look at me like you want to have sex with me."

"Then... how do I look at you?" Chris asked as he locked eyes with him. He tried to play it off in the usual light tone he used whenever he was messing around with him, but his heart was racing wildly. Sky had to have noticed it.

He also wasn’t sure what Sky had thought he had seen, but Chris did want to have sex with him!

"Maybe I should hand you a mirror next time so you can see how you look at me," Sky said quietly before he gently reached to brush some of Chris’s hair away from his face.

Chris did not like this.

"Like... I care for you?" He managed to ask, still curious about what Sky thought.

Sky whispered, his words making Chris’s heart stop beating at once. "Like you have a crush on me."

What?

WHAT?!

Chris was trying to make sense of what Sky had just said but then Sky said, "I’m not her."

"Who...?" He asked hesitantly.

"Rain," Sky said to him quietly. "So stop getting confused whenever you look at me. We’re not the same people."

Wait a minute.

"Wait... what? You think I look at you and imagine Rain?" Chris asked him. He wasn’t sure whether he should laugh now. This guy was indeed dense.

"Then are you trying to say you do not, and those gazes are directed at me instead? Because I do see the way you look at her." Sky pointed out before he went back to burying his face in Chris’s chest.

The irony of the whole thing was that it was actually the other way around. He looked at Rain, imagining it was her brother!

He was indeed dense when it came to these things.

Chris laughed awkwardly. He couldn’t believe this.

Well... shit.

Chris decided to change the topic to something else. Something he was curious about.

"Why did you drink so much? Was it because of the fight you had with your sister?"

He resumed stroking his hair.

He wouldn’t lie; he liked this moment right now. Of course, he hated the situation that had led to this, but he kind of enjoyed being this close.

And glad that it was him right now with Sky and not someone else. And also tried to etch this moment into his head because he knew there was a very slim chance of this happening again.

The first time had been by accident since they had both been sleeping and found themselves like that. But now they were both conversing.

Sky hesitated before he answered Chris’s question about the reason he had drunk a lot.

Was it because of the fight with Rain?

"Partly, yes. But let’s not talk about it now, okay? So don’t ask."

Chris decided not to press him for answers and nodded. "Alright, I won’t push it."

"Thanks, Chris." Sky’s voice came out quietly. "You’re a true friend."

Nah. He didn’t like the sound of that.
