Chapter 43: "I wanted to make you happy"

Chris had never felt so optimistic in his life. His chat with Rachel today had helped him a lot. Also, he had been able to come to terms with his feelings and not try to run away. By ’feelings’, he meant his lust for that guy.

He found Sky attractive, and he wasn’t going to try to ignore it. He also knew he shouldn’t and definitely wouldn’t expect anything. He believed this was temporary, and maybe by next week, he would be better. Besides, Sky barely stayed in the dorm, so it may take a longer time to see him. Maybe there was no need to even look for a dorm since he rarely came around. Besides, there was also Rain.

Those thoughts were far-fetched, so he focused on the present instead.

After he parted ways with Rain, he saw Rachel off to her dorm. And lingered around for a while.

"What were you talking about with Noel? You seemed to enjoy his company. Taken a liking to him yet?" He asked with a teasing smile.

"Just random things. And then, when you guys mentioned the bike race, he asked me to go with him."

"And...?" He inquired.

She shrugged. "I told him I’d be there to support you if you were going."

"You’re really keeping him at arm’s length, aren’t you?"

"I don’t want to start something I cannot finish." She brushed it off before asking, "What about you? I don’t think I’m overthinking this, but does Rain have a thing for you?"

"I think so." He answered casually.

"And... what do you think about her?"

Even though he had a no girls or boys policy, he felt a kind of attraction towards Rain. Whether he was going to really look into it or not, he was going to decide much later. But one thing was certain: he wouldn’t be getting involved with both siblings at the same time.

"Why are you asking?" He asked her, not exactly answering the question, but his effort in trying to divert the question made Rachel suspicious of him, and just in case he was forgetting, she decided to remind him.

"Because she is Sato’s twin!"

"I am not going to do anything inappropriate with her." He promised.

It was quite funny to him. Because Rain was beautiful, pretty, sexy, cute, and everything he wanted in his ideal lady. Her look was exactly his type. Yet he had never thought of her sexually. And he didn’t think it was because he didn’t want to betray Sky’s trust since he had warned him against hitting on his sister.

He’d just rather have her brother.

"I don’t want you ever getting into a fight with Sato about this." She said it in a serious tone, as though she were reprimanding him.

"Chill. That won’t ever happen. Trust me," He said with confidence.

After they both parted ways, the memory from earlier inside the gym came in full force and overwhelmed Chris, making him both smile and cringe in embarrassment.

"You’re really pretty when you laugh like that,"

Those words continued to replay in his head. They gave him goosebumps.

Damn! That guy was a devil. How was he so good at making him feel this way when he didn’t even mean it?

Maybe it was indeed a good idea to move.

Even though Sky rarely came to the dorm, he didn’t want to spend any nights with him in the same room. Because that boy was a devil. He may suddenly show up one day and decide to spend the night there, and then he would have a bad night because of him.

So as he got to his dorm and began to head towards his room, he texted Wilson for the first time that day to ask how to go about getting an apartment since Wilson was his god-sent personal assistant. And while on the phone, he tried to fix his key in the keyhole and met an obstacle inside.

Frowning in confusion, he took out his key and turned the doorknob, and the door opened.

It... opened?

He entered at once, and his greatest dread had just happened.

It was right there before his eyes.

Sky was on his bed with his legs crossed between them like he was about to meditate. But there was no meditation happening because his laptop was placed on his thighs, and he was busy typing away while simultaneously flipping through a book beside him on the bed. He was fully dressed. As usual.

It took a few seconds before he noticed Chris, who still stood there staring at him in surprise. He raised a brow at Chris, asking, "Where did you go? It’s late." And then he returned his focus to the laptop.

Chris was almost at a loss for words, but he was finally able to ask after his stunned silence. "What... are you doing?"

"Assignment." He answered while still typing.

"I mean... WHAT are you doing here?" Chris asked as he closed the door and walked in, his entire focus on Sky.

Sky stopped typing, put his laptop aside, and just stared at him with a piercing gaze before he said, "Uhm... let’s say this is my room?"

Was this guy messing with him? Was he seriously trying to pretend he didn’t understand what he was asking?

"You rarely stay here, so why are you suddenly HERE?" This time, he placed a lot of emphasis on ’HERE’ and hoped Sky wouldn’t give him any other silly answers, but his next response stunned him even further.

"I wanted to make you happy." He said this as he put the laptop away on the bed and got up.

"Are you kidding me??"

Sky didn’t answer immediately. He just went to his dressing table and reached for the big nylon bag on the table to take out a big, square-shaped lunchbox, and when he was done carefully placing it on the table, he turned around to face Chris, and with his hands folded across his chest, he answered.

"You sounded like you missed me earlier. I had to grace you with my presence."

The serious tone Sky usually uses when saying things like this made it funny and more unbelievable so he could not help but laugh.

"You don’t stop being full of yourself, do you?"

"So answer my question. Why are you just coming in at this time?"

Chris raised a questioning brow at him. He couldn’t understand why this guy was interrogating him like he was his husband.

"I’m not sure there is a reason why I need to explain myself to you."

"I am taking responsibility for you." Sky pointed out, frowning.

"You are... insufferable."

"Are you trying to skip my question because you met Rain today?"

Chris didn’t look surprised that he knew about it. Rain could have told him. Or maybe Noel did.

"If she already told you that, why are you asking?" Chris asked with an uninterested tone as he went to sit on his bed and take off his shoes.

"Do you think Rain needs to tell me anything before I know whatever you are up to?"

"Oh really? So you must know what I’ve eaten today and everyone I met." Chris joked.

"You had ice cream and cake with Rachel earlier today. What else?"

It seemed like Sky was set on stunning him repeatedly tonight, and if that was his plan, it was working.

"How did you know?" He asked curiously since he knew Rachel wouldn’t have told him.

Sky eyed him and turned to pick up the lunchbox from the table and shove it at him, startling Chris, who held it before it would fall.

"I brought you something to eat. Chinese fried rice. Brought from home." He said it dismissively and returned to his bed, where he picked up his laptop.

Chris looked down at the lunchbox. A few days ago, this would have confused him and made him question the reason Sky was this nice to him, but now he knew better.

"Have you also sent some to Gary and the other people you are responsible for?"

As much as Chris tried to hide his displeasure, he couldn’t help it, and some sipped out.

"There aren’t enough to go around, so I brought it just for you." He answered without looking up at Chris.

Chris frowned at him. He was not going to let this guy ruin his mood after all it had taken for him to stop feeling like shit.

"Well, I’m not interested."

He went to drop the lunchbox on Sky’s table and returned to his bed.

He wouldn’t lie; the food smelled nice, and he would like to see it and also have a taste of it. But his ego was bigger, and he was not going to let this guy win this time.

"Are you kidding me?" Sky asked. This time, he looked up at Chris and dropped his laptop again, and in a soft but firm voice, he gestured with his finger for him to come closer and said, "Come here."
