Chapter 132: Cheater.

Chapter 132: Cheater.

Chris didn’t want to eavesdrop, but curiosity couldn’t let him mind his business as he got closer to the closed door. Especially when he began to hear snippets of the conversation going on inside the room.

He crossed his hands and leaned by the wall, listening.

"You know I’m busy," Sky’s voice came through the door, cool and sharp.

"I do not think you’re not," the other guy replied, his tone almost playful.

"Then stop asking me. Ask someone else."

"I don’t want anyone else."

The fuck? Chris froze. Was this a love confession? What the hell is always happening in here?

The guy continued, "I don’t think I’d ever find anyone better than you—"

Chris was about to storm in. This guy must be out of his mind if he thought—

"—to tutor me," the guy finished.

Oh.

Wait... what?

Chris exhaled quietly, his hand still hovering near the door handle.

"It’s not even a serious class, Michael," Sky said, irritation creeping into his voice.

"But I need good grades. You said it yourself: we can ask you for help, and here I am asking."

"I meant the juniors. And my answer is no," Sky said firmly.

Chris bit back a grin. He liked it when Sky was cold to everyone else. It was... satisfying.

"You just want to avoid me, right?" Michael pressed.

"And why would I?" Sky’s tone sounded impatient.

"’Cos you know I have the hots for you."

The smile slid off Chris’s face instantly as soon as he heard that.

What the fuck?

"I’m not in the mood for this," Sky said, voice hardening.

"Sato..."

"Look, Michael. I need to finish this up and go back out there. I don’t appreciate this."

Hmm, Chris thought. He could hear the strain in Sky’s tone, but Michael kept pushing.

He was torn between storming in there or letting Sky handle it. He wanted Sky to reject him. So he knows he had no chance.

It was quiet for a second before the boy spoke again, "I was kind of disappointed, you know."

"What?"

"For some reason, I thought you’d, you know... be into guys."

Okay... now, what was happening here.

Chris’s ears were practically burning as he eavesdropped.

"Why would you think that?" Sky asked, his voice sharper now.

"Come on. I’ve known you for years. I noticed you back in high school—always hiding away, covering up—"

"And that makes me gay and not introverted?"

"Chill. I didn’t say you were gay. Even your friendship with Henry didn’t fully convince me," Michael said with maddening casualness.

Chris was seething now, barely restraining himself. He didn’t like this pressure Michael was putting on him.

"You may not know this, but I kinda saved your life a couple of days ago," Michael added.

Sky’s tone shifted. "What do you mean?"

"There was this picture of you hugging a girl," he paused, "...passionately."

Chris’s eyes narrowed.

Sky sounded alarmed. "What... picture?"

"It was going to be uploaded, but I beat the shit out of him and made him delete it," he paused again before asking, "So... you were dating Ash’s sister the entire time? I kinda assumed there must have been something going on between you and Ash—"

Ash’s sister? Chris’s head spun. When the hell did that happen?

It had to be recently.

Sky had abandoned him to go hug her passionately?

"Who... who else saw it?" Sky asked, his voice tight, ignoring the other statement about Ash.

He wasn’t denying that something like that must have happened. Which meant he had really done it.

"Just me."

There was a pause.

"Okay, okay... maybe a couple of guys," michael added. "But don’t worry, they won’t spill. I made sure of it. You know how your admirers at school would tear you apart if they found out you were dating someone. Plus, it’s exam season. I care about your grades—just like I want you to care about mine," he added the last part quietly.

There was a subtle hint of blackmail in that tone, which made Chris snap back to his senses.

He knocked firmly on the door, and the conversation stopped dead.

Footsteps approached, and when the door opened, Chris found himself face-to-face with Michael.

Oh, come on!

The guy wasn’t just some random idiot—he was annoyingly attractive, one of those jocks Chris had seen around and even briefly commented on with Rachel when he passed one time.

"Hey, roomie!" Michael greeted him with a wide, obnoxious grin.

Roomie? This guy even knew who he was. Fantastic.

Chris forced a tight smile, fighting the urge to scowl. If he did anything else, it would be clear he had been eavesdropping. "Hey, is Sky here? I need to pass a quick message him."

"Sure," Michael said easily, opening the door wider.

Chris stepped in, his gaze immediately locking on Sky’s back as he stood at the counter, fiddling with the blender. The machine roared to life, drowning out the sound of Michael picking up one of the protein shakes.

Michael clapped a hand on Sky’s shoulder, but Sky brushed him off with a sharp flick of his arm.

"I’ll see you," Michael said, giving Chris another infuriating smile before walking out.

The moment he was out, Chris locked the door and strode across the room to this cheater.

Sky didn’t turn around, busying himself with the blender like nothing had happened.

He wanted to play? Okay then!

Chris didn’t hesitate. He reached for the plug and yanked it from the socket.

The blender whirred to a halt, but Sky still didn’t turn. He just sighed heavily.

"Should we really act like I am not in here right now?" Chris asked him, not even annoyed that Sky was clearly avoiding him.

"You saw me in the cafeteria today, didn’t you?" He asked further, pushing him.

Sky finally turned to him, his expression unreadable.

"There were a lot of people—"

"I asked if you saw me," Chris reiterated, coldly.

Sky squared his shoulders as he answered, "I may have."
