Chapter 125: "Why are you gay?"
Chapter 125: "Why are you gay?"
It was 10pm when Sky entered the dark room, safe for the moonlight filtering in from the window where Chris stood by the window. Even when the door silently opened and closed, he didn’t turn around.
He had come.
He didn’t even think it was an intruder. Because he knew Sky’s presence. He knew the quiet way he walked. The way he breathed. The way he smelled.
"Welcome back to your abandoned room." Chris said sarcastically without turning to look at him.
Sky was approaching him but then stopped and went to Chris’ desk, dropping the bag he brought with him.
"I brought dinner. We wrapped up a bit late."
Chris finally turned to face him just as Sky was done taking out the food boxes from the bag. There was a lot.
He looked at them and up to meet Sky’s eyes. "I’m not hungry."
"Are you still pissed?" His voice was tentative. As though testing the waters.
"I don’t know if I am. Honestly."
He was honest. The fact that Sky had come had changed things.
His girlfriend or fiancée or whatever was in town. But he had returned here. Because he asked him to.
He was going to marry this guy.
"What did you..." Sky paused, "What did you talk about with Henry?"
He looked curious. Wary.
Chris crossed his arms. "Why are you curious about that?"
Sky’s lips formed a straight line. He didn’t look too impressed by the back and forth. "Did he say something to make you angry? Did he say... anything?"
That sounded like Sky was asking him more. More than he was saying. What didn’t he want him to know?
Chris simply shrugged and went to his bed. "We just talked about random things."
Silence.
"Like what?" He asked again, his voice tentative.
Chris raised a brow at him. "Seriously, Sky? What do you wish we had talked about?"
"Nothing." He said and turned towards his wardrobe to open it.
He didn’t turn on the main lights.
Chris eyes his back. "Do you want to shower?"
"I already showered at home." He answered without looking at him. He kept searching for something but after a while, he just stopped and sighed heavily.
Chris watched him the entire time until he decided to break the silence.
"Look, I don’t want to be an asshole who tries to make you get confused when you have a girlfriend or fiancée or whatever. So I need to know—"
"Confused?" Sky asked. He did look confused. "Who is confused by what?"
Chris looked at the innocent confusion on his face and laughed, shaking his head.
"What is funny?"
"You still don’t know it?" Chris asked him. He decided he was done playing around. Since this idiot was dense, he just had to spell it out for him.
"Know what?" Sky asked him but then he looked almost wary. As though he didn’t want to hear Chris’s answer.
Chris kept his gaze fixed on him as he stood up, walking lazily to where Sky stood.
Even without the main lights on the room, he could make out his features quite clearly.
His face was neutral at first. But the more Chris approached him, the more it went from confusion to anxiety.
Chris backed him until he was almost inside the wardrobe. But Sky didn’t break eye contact.
Both their eyes clashed in the darkness.
And as they kept staring into each other’s eyes, Chris reached for his hand and locked their fingers and with the other hand he grazed the hair away from Sky’s face even as his body pressed a bit firmly onto Sky’s.
He wasn’t pushed away.
It brought a smirk to Chris’s face.
Again, he liked Mia, but fuck her.
"You like me." Chris said, matter of factly.
Sky’s brow furrowed. Looking confident, he tilted his head to the side and then let out a low chuckle, which reverberated through both of their chests.
"Don’t be ridiculous." He said as he reached for Chris’s hand on his hair, pulling it down.
He tried to move away from him, but Chris didn’t let him, tightening the hold on their interlocked fingers.
Sky raised a brow, "Are you..." he paused and shook his head. It seemed he thought better and decided not to ask.
He looked embarrassed and turned his gaze away.
"Am I what?" Chris prodded. His voice was quiet. And like a stubborn human that he was, his hand went back to Sky’s hair. He wasn’t exactly gentle this time. He fisted it, pulling it back and bringing Sky’s face to look at him.
Sky looked startled. His eyes slightly widened. Maybe it was the shock because he suddenly blurted out, "Are you gay?!"
Not that Chris hadn’t expected him to ask that question sometime, but the way he had asked took him aback and also made him let out a laugh and he released Sky’s hair as well as his hand. Then he stepped back.
"You are not going to answer me?" Sky asked, frowning. "Are you... for real? Kissing Ash in public and openly flirting with Gary and flirting with me... those were real?"
His tone was accusatory.
"Since you flirt with me too, does that make you gay?" Chris retorted.
Sky looked at him as though he had said something taboo, "I have a fiancée, Chris. In case you don’t remember that you met her today."
Chris nodded like he had just heard an important classified information. "Nice to know. So... are you gay?"
(Secretly inserts meme *why are you gay?*)
"I am not." Sky answered, his facial features hardening. He looked like he was going to fight any second.
Chris smirked.
This was going to be a hard one.
"Now, answer me. What are you?" He asked in a serious tone.
Unfazed, Chris answered, "Christopher Owen."
"Chris!" His tone was low but warning.
Sky had never seen him like this before. He looked like he may blow up any second.
"You are overreacting." Chris said quietly. As if this wasn’t intense enough, he turned and went towards the bed, pulling the two beds together.
He knew Chris was watching as he set up everything including a projector he had bought the other day to display the movie on the wall, where Sky’s bed usually was.
When he was done, he sat down on the bed, turning to tap the empty space beside him.
Sky’s facial expression had softened but he still looked... wary.
"I hope you brought the snacks?"
Chris said, grinning.
