Chapter 120: "Don’t tell me..."

Chapter 120: "Don’t tell me..."

Chris had a pleasant dream that night. Sky was helping him wash his hair, and they were both under the shower. Yes, he knew. It was wild of him to go that far, but this was his dream, and he could only revel in it, right?

But what confused him was the fact that he wasn’t going all the way in his dream. In fact, he was laughing. He couldn’t remember what Sky was telling him as he washed his hair from behind, but they were both giggling like idiots.

And even now, in reality, under the shower but alone, he occasionally found himself chuckling to himself.

He took his time showering, not because of anything special but because he was lost in his dream world.

Waking up this morning, he shamelessly texted Sky first to ask when he was available to go out together, offering that between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. would be fine. It was late, considering he’d rather they left much earlier, but he didn’t want to impose on him. He was only trying to be nice by not texting him to get his ass out of wherever he was immediately and come to him.

Sky hadn’t texted back. Of course, he hadn’t. Chris had sent him the text a little past 6 a.m., so he was probably still asleep. Instead of waiting anxiously for a response, he decided to take a shower. That was why he could have an uninterrupted moment daydreaming in the bathroom since most of these guys didn’t use the shower on a Saturday morning when they were likely still asleep.

All except one person.

"Jeez! What the hell are you doing here?" he asked in shock when he bumped into Gary as soon as he stepped out of the steamy shower stall, with only a towel wrapped around his waist.

Yesterday, Rachel had almost given him a heart attack when she suddenly appeared inside his room, and now, Gary.

"Um... it’s also my dorm, and I’m here to shower," Gary pointed out, but in a less hostile voice than Chris had used out of shock.

"You seem to be in a good mood. You were humming happily in there. I can only guess that you feel a lot better now," Gary observed.

"Well... I guess?" Chris’s answer was tentative. Previously, he would have ignored Gary, but after their little bonding experience, he didn’t see why he should be rude to him. But right now, he felt like there was something wrong with Gary.

"He must have a nice touch then." Gary smirked.

"’He’ who?" Chris asked.

"Who else? Sato, of course," Gary rolled his eyes.

"What the hell are you on about?" Chris defended, wondering what he had heard to be talking about this.

"Chill! Why are you so defensive? I mean, he must have nursed you well," Gary explained.

"Who else? Sato, of course."

"And who says he did?" Chris questioned.

Gary sighed. "Well, just so you know, I would have checked on you earlier. But he told me very politely to fuck up. Said he didn’t like others coming to his room. He is very annoying, by the way."

"You met him?" Chris asked, slightly confused.

"More like he met me. But whatever. If you need my help, let me know," Gary offered.

"You sound pissed," Chris noticed.

"No shit," Gary confirmed. He sounded a bit hostile now, which confused Chris since he wasn’t sure why this guy was acting strangely. Well, maybe it was because of Sky, but then, he didn’t have anything to do with this. Right?

"So you’ve given up on him?" Chris asked.

Gary simply eyed him without giving an answer. Was it that easy to give up on people? Chris knew better.

"I know I’m not overthinking this, but you seem a bit hostile toward me. What’s up?" Chris inquired with genuine curiosity. "We had a really good buddy moment and even shared sausages. So why are you suddenly acting like this?"

Gary sighed. "I don’t want to get mad at you, but I’m just that petty. I just feel like things would have been different if you hadn’t come here."

Ouch.

As annoying as it sounded, Chris chose not to take him seriously. He assumed Gary thought Sky was no longer giving him any attention because he had suddenly shown up. And as much as this made him seem like a bad person, he was a bit pleased.

"You’re jealous because I’m his roommate?" Chris asked instead.

Gary looked like he wanted to say something but changed his mind just before he could get the words out. "Just forget it. Be careful anyway," he said instead.

"And why do I need to be?" Chris pressed.

"Don’t say I didn’t warn you," Gary said, giving Chris’s body an openly appreciative look before heading to a bathroom stall and drawing the curtain closed.

Chris was confused. He was good at reading people, but not here.

It felt like he was building a pack of enemies with each passing day. There was that stalker somewhere, Ash, and now this guy.

This was all so interestingly weird. Or was it weirdly interesting? He had never had a difficult time reading people. But he had realized that since coming here, reading people was a talent he could no longer brag about.

As he left the bathroom, he didn’t bother trying to cover up his body. In fact, he hadn’t bothered to take a change of clothes with him. So with only the towel wrapped around his waist, leaving his wet hair to drip down his glistening skin, he headed for his room. However, when he opened the door, he was surprised to find Sky inside.

Sky stood, facing the window, and was on a call with someone, so he didn’t notice Chris come in. He spoke his language in the sexy way that Chris liked, bringing a tiny smile to his face.

Chris wondered whether he, too, had been too excited that he had arrived early after getting his text. The mere thought of that made his smile widen. It filled him with delusion that they both seemed to be on the same page.

To get Sky’s attention, he closed the door a bit loudly, and it worked because Sky flinched and turned around immediately.

He noticed Sky take in his appearance before he said something to the phone and hung up.

"I didn’t think you were so eager to meet me today," Chris teased, crossing his arms over his chest and resting his back on the door. His actions were deliberate as they seemed to flex his biceps, which he was sure his baby boy took notice of since he saw his eyes move.

However, Chris’s smile suddenly began to fade when he instantly noticed something was wrong by the look on Sky’s face, and all forms of playfulness disappeared from his face too as he looked at him.

He pushed himself away from the door, suddenly acutely aware of the way his damp skin clung to him, the way his hair dripped onto the floor. He felt self-conscious, exposed as he spoke quietly, "Don’t tell me..."
