Chapter 114: Anger arousal?
Chapter 114: Anger arousal?
"I brought you lunch," Chris said, a warm smile on his face as he held up the bag in his hand.
Sky’s eyes lit up as he saw the bag of snacks Chris had brought. He sat up in bed, rubbing the remnants of sleep from his eyes.
"You really brought it!" Sky exclaimed, his gratitude evident in his voice.
"Of course," Chris replied, setting the bag down on the small lamp table beside Sky’s bed. "You worry about me, so this is the least I can do."
A contented smile played on Sky’s lips as he reached for the bag, his eyes widening in pleasant surprise when he saw the variety of snacks Chris had added. He looked up at Chris’s face and found him smiling.
"Are you so touched that you’ve fallen in love?" Chris joked, wiggling his eyebrows playfully.
Sky chuckled and shrugged, grabbing a bag of chips. "Who knows? So how did it go with the doctor?"
Chris’s expression shifted, a hint of discontent on his face. "Well, they gave me some medication."
Sky raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Why do you look like you’re not happy about that?"
Chris let out a sigh. "No one is happy taking medication."
"But it’s necessary that you take it," Sky said in a strict tone. "Throw the bag to me."
Sky was referring to the medication bag, which he gestured at with his chin.
"Why?" Chris asked.
"I need to understand the dosage so I can always remind you." Sky said to him in a serious tone that made Chris laugh as he said, "Do you have a plan to make me get used to being dependent on you?"
Sky shrugged, replying, "I don’t see what is wrong with it."
Chris smiled at him before throwing the bag of medication at him. One pack fell out of the bag, landing on Sky’s thigh, and he picked it up first to check the prescription labeled on it. As he checked them one by one, he seemed to be taking notes on his laptop.
Chris looked closely at the laptop and then remarked, "That’s a new laptop."
Sky nodded without looking up. "Yes. It was what the school gave me." He suddenly stopped typing and looked up at Chris. "On that note... I was thinking... Would you like me to mentor you so that by this time next year, you’ll be getting the same award? I heard it would be yearly." Sky offered.
Chris just stared intensely at him before shaking his head. "Not interested."
"Come on, Chris. This is going to save you more than enough money, and you’ll get many freebies. Like this laptop, for example." Sky pointed at it.
"I will think about that later. I need to read for my test tomorrow." Chris said this dismissively before picking up his laptop and returning to his bed.
The two of them got busy, both engrossed in their laptops, while Sky also munched on a bag of potato chips.
After about 20 minutes of sitting on his bed, frowning at his laptop screen, and trying to tackle his assignment while fighting with himself about telling Sky about his decision or not, Chris suddenly broke the silence.
"I’m thinking about moving out of the dorm and getting an apartment off-campus," he confessed.
Sky looked up from his laptop, chips still in his mouth, surprise registering on his face. He swallowed the chips with effort, his eyes searching Chris’s face.
"Did I... do something to make you want to leave?" Sky asked hesitantly, a hint of insecurity in his voice.
Chris shook his head quickly, surprised by the thought. "Why would you even think that?" He asked in disbelief. "It’s just that I need some privacy, you know?"
Sky seemed lost in thought for a moment, his gaze distant as he processed Chris’s words.
"Do I not... give you enough privacy?" Sky asked, his voice tentative.
Chris was taken aback by the question. "Jeez, Sky! It’s not because of you!" he exclaimed. "And you’ve been a great roommate. It just feels like everyone’s always staring at me here, and sharing a bathroom is starting to get uncomfortable."
Sky fell silent, his expression unreadable as he processed Chris’s explanation.
"You aren’t going to say anything?" Chris prodded, feeling a bit uneasy about the silence.
"It’s just... out of the blue, I guess," Sky finally responded quietly. "But I get it."
Chris breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Sky wasn’t taking it personally.
"So?" Chris urged, looking at Sky expectantly.
"Apartments can be expensive," Sky pointed out, concern in his eyes. "And there’s the issue of security. What if the person who sent those pictures of you shows up again?"
Chris chuckled, appreciating Sky’s genuine concern. "You think I look like someone who’d easily get bullied by a stalker?"
"No, of course not, Chris. It’s just... you know, an extra layer of security?"
Chris nodded thoughtfully. "I get it. But I’m sure I’ll be good. Besides, the person hasn’t shown up again. And even if they did, I will handle it."
Sky’s expression shifted, and he seemed deep in thought before finally speaking. "If... that’s what you really want, I can talk to my dad to see if he can find you a cheap place with good security. But I don’t think it would fit into whatever budget you have."
Chris smiled in gratitude. "Yeah, you should tell him to find a really good place, you know? Since his grand sugar baby would be living there," he teased and tried so hard to suppress his laughter, but when he saw the cringe on Sky’s face, he laughed.
"Why don’t you go and tell him that yourself and see how he reacts?" Sky said in amusement.
"I’ll pass," Chris replied with a chuckle.
"Do you have any preferences in mind? For the apartment." Sky asked in a serious tone.
Chris shook his head. "You can help me choose whatever. Since you are going to be coming there often."
"Are you looking for someone to hug you every night since you’re scared of the dark?" Sky jabbed playfully.
Chris chuckled and played along. "Maybe, you never know."
As Chris was talking with Sky about the apartment and their light-hearted conversation, his phone suddenly began to ring with an unidentified number flashing on the screen. Curious, he picked it up, wondering who could be calling him from an unknown number.
"Hello?" Chris said, his curiosity mixed with caution.
A familiar, annoying voice echoed through the phone. "Miss me?"
That voice.
When Chris heard the voice on the other end of the phone, a wave of irritation and anger washed over him. His brows furrowed, and his grip on the phone tightened involuntarily. The voice was like nails on a chalkboard to him, and he couldn’t hide his disdain.
"Ash?" Chris called out.
Sky, who had been watching Chris closely, noticed the change in his expression and the tone of his voice. His sharp gaze locked onto Chris as he realized who was on the other end of the call, a deep frown forming on his face.
Chris clenched his jaw, struggling to keep his irritation in check.
He replied tersely, "How did you get my number?"
Ash’s voice chimed in with a sly tone: "Getting anyone’s number is a piece of cake, darling. Remember you even received an invite to my pool party?"
Every word that came from Ash’s mouth felt like an intrusion, a reminder of the annoyance he was constantly causing. Chris was not one to hold back his emotions, and his irritation was clear both on his face and in his tone.
He wanted to end the call, not concerned about whatever had made Ash call him. However, before he could, Sky abruptly stood up, his anger evident on his face. With an abrupt and almost aggressive motion, Sky took the phone from Chris’s hand. Chris was momentarily stunned, not expecting such a move from him.
Sky’s quick actions, coupled with his fierce demeanour, clearly conveyed his anger at the person on the other end of the call.
Sky spoke rapidly in a language Chris couldn’t understand, his voice filled with rage.
Even though Chris could not understand a thing he was saying, it was clear from the tone and body language that Sky was giving Ash a piece of his mind, and there was definitely swearing involved. Lots of swearing. The tirade continued, with Sky’s anger escalating, until finally, he hung up the phone with a resounding and rude click.
Chris watched in amazement as Sky turned to him, his expression still fiery with anger. Chris couldn’t quite comprehend what had just transpired, but one thing was clear: Sky had taken charge.
How sexy.
Chris grinned.
"What?" Sky asked as he tossed the phone back at him.
Chris’s grin widened as he caught his phone. "I was just thinking you looked really... sexy."
Sky paused, different emotions fleeting past his face, before he raised a brow as he asked, "Formicophilia?"
"What is that?"
"Fetish. Like anger arousal," Sky answered casually while looking at him.
"Oh!" Chris laughed. "I think what was sexier was that language. But yeah... maybe that too. Whatever you called the fetish."
"Weirdo," Sky mumbled in amusement before he returned to use his laptop, but Chris could note how his mood had completely changed.
