Chapter 100: Threat

Chapter 100: Threat

Chris couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to this situation than met the eye. He felt this was more than just the fact that he had hit Ash. Why was Ashley so fixated on him and Sky?

And no, this had nothing to do with the fact that Sky was engaged to his sister. He wondered if there was some hidden motive behind Ashley’s actions. Perhaps... he was secretly in love with Sky?

"Was it you?" Chris asked after a while. "The Stalker?" Chris’s voice trembled with a mixture of anger and confusion as he held Ashley pinned against the wall. Ashley’s eyes glittered with amusement, his arrogant smile still in place, as if he were revelling in Chris’s turmoil. "Stalker? What Stalker?"

"The crazy bastard that’s been stalking me. Is it you?" His voice was icy. So was the look in his eyes.

"Oh, that’s adorable, Chris. You think I would stoop to such a level?"

Chris’s grip on Ashley’s collar tightened even further, his knuckles turning even whiter. "Answer the question, Ash!"

Ashley’s laughter was unnerving, a sinister melody that was almost ticking off Chris. "You really think I’m that desperate for your attention? Sorry to break it to you, but I have better things to do."

Chris’s breathing was ragged, his chest heaving with a mix of anger and frustration. He wanted nothing more than to wipe that self-satisfied grin off Ashley’s face, but he knew he had to tread carefully. The consequences of his actions could ripple far beyond this confrontation. Not for him, though. But for Ash.

However, he was not worth it. He had just left the police station the previous day, and half the school seemed to already know about it. If he got into further trouble, people may start wondering why he still had the scholarship, and if this situation blows up, his parents will know soon.

Also, he didn’t want to imagine whatever effect it would have on Sky. Plus, if he wanted Sky to know he liked him, he wanted to be the one to tell him, and he didn’t think it was a good time considering the fact that Sky seemed to have a lot going on with him. He didn’t want to add to his worries.

Chris loosened his grip slightly, though his anger was still palpable. "Why are you doing this?" He asked, curious.

He knew that any kind of news that wasn’t good about Sky could harm Sky’s reputation and potentially affect Ashley’s sister, and he couldn’t understand why Ashley would risk that. Did he want to ruin his sister’s happiness just to get back at Chris?

He knew how rumours worked. If people knew he liked Sky, they would create different scenarios in their heads, especially knowing they were roommates. Aside from that, Sky may want to keep his distance and stay away from him. He didn’t even want to talk about the school taking it up and probably separating them.

Ashley’s expression shifted for a moment, a flicker of something raw and unguarded passing through his eyes. But it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by his trademark arrogance. "Why not? You’re an interesting little puzzle to solve, Chris."

Chris’s brows furrowed as he tried to make sense of Ashley’s words. He knew there was more beneath the surface, something driving Ashley’s actions, but he couldn’t quite grasp it. "The fuck are you talking about?"

"You. Intrigue. Me." Ash said, slowly reaching up a hand to touch Chris’s face, but one dark glare from Chris and he paused, chuckling. "I want to see all of the emotions. What else you have in there, and how long you can keep acting like you are better than everyone else."

"You think I act like I’m better than everyone?" Chris asked with amused annoyance. "You don’t even know me."

"I don’t need to know you that deeply, Chris." He said. "You tried to take me head-on during the race. You act like my party was some insignificant thing you cannot bother yourself with. You just sit there watching everyone do their thing while you act like the mature guy." He chuckled as he added, "Even lecturing me and hitting me in front of other people and finding your way out of the police station. You are just... incredible." Ashley’s lips curled into a smirk, a mix of amusement and condescension in his gaze.

"So what? Want to fuck?" Chris asked blandly.

Ashley burst into laughter, shaking his head. "Not that I would mind. But... are you sure you won’t imagine you’re doing it with him and not me?" He taunted, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "You can’t tell me you haven’t noticed it. The way you react to Sky. The way you look at him. It’s practically written all over your face. I could just tell from the first time I saw you two together."

He couldn’t deny the truth in Ashley’s words, and that only fueled his anger further. He shook his head, his voice tinged with resentment. "Watch what you say."

"I haven’t even started. Let’s talk. Privately." Ash spoke, his eyes looking around at the onlookers. "And get your hands off my collar. I don’t like it this rough." He winked.

Disgusted, Chris let go of him and stepped back. He should have left, but he was curious. He really wanted to know what was up with this guy and the real deal between him and Sky; maybe indulging the psycho bastard a little was all he needed.

Ashley’s amusement seemed to falter for a moment, his gaze narrowing as he assessed Chris. He pushed himself away from the wall, straightening his jacket with a casual air as if he were the one in control. "Shall we?"

Chris’s jaw remained clenched, his eyes never leaving Ashley’s face as they walked away from the dormitory building, away from prying eyes and curious onlookers.

But was it ever possible to escape from curious eyes who were willing to leave everything else and secretly tail them?

They walked in tense silence until they reached a quieter corner beside the main dorm building at the back. Chris’s gaze was sharp, his voice cold, as he finally broke the silence. "You have five seconds to tell me what you want, or I won’t be responsible for what happens next."

Ashley’s gaze met Chris’s, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then he leaned against a nearby wall, crossing his arms with a casual demeanour that infuriated Chris. "First, I want to know if it’s true. Do you have feelings for Sky?"

Chris’s jaw tensed, and his eyes flickered with a mix of frustration and unease. He didn’t want to give Ashley the satisfaction of admitting anything, but he also didn’t want to see Sky’s life disrupted because of him. He took a deep breath; his voice was strained. "That’s none of your business."

Ashley’s smile returned, with a knowing glint in his eyes. "Ah, the classic non-answer. But I think you’ve already given me the answer I need."

Chris’s fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles turning white. He was torn between his pride and the desire to protect Sky. Chris’s eyes narrowed as he studied Ashley’s calculating gaze, not trying to indulge him by asking him to go on.

Did he really need to bear with this?

A sly smile tugged at Ashley’s lips, his voice a low whisper: "I’d be willing to forget about all this and make you an ally if you do something for me."

Once again, Chris grabbed Ash. His grip on Ashley’s collar tightened, and his frustration mounted. He wanted nothing more than to wipe that smug expression off Ashley’s face, but he knew he had to keep his temper in check. "I’m not doing anything for you." He spoke in a quiet and clear tone.

Ashley’s laughter was grating, a sound that grated on Chris’s nerves. "Oh, Chris. You don’t have much of a choice, do you? You can either play nice or watch your little secret blow up in your face. The whole school will know. And I’m not sure how much you know Sky, but once everyone starts to say weird shit about him, he’ll hate you. He’ll go away. Far. Far. Away."

"You must think I give two shits about whatever you decide to do—"

"IT’S SOMETHING SIMPLE, DAMN IT!" Ash yelled, shoving him off. "WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU SO STUBBORN?!"

Chris looked at him in disbelief.

Just wow!

He couldn’t believe this.

His eyes wandered to the onlookers around them who had followed them, watching and waiting.

And then Chris turned to him, smiling. His smile was almost predatory. Ash raised a questioning brow at him, wondering what was wrong with him. He seemed to be uncomfortable with Chris being unnerved.

Chris stepped closer to him. Taken aback, Ash stepped back.

"Why are you so guarded? Weren’t you interested in me?" Sky asked, stepping closer to him until Ash was restricted between Chris’s hands on the wall behind him.

Chris was intimidating when he wanted to be, and his height always helped him. And right now, he definitely wanted to be.

"Are you trying to mess with me?" Ash asked, his confidence faltering.

Without another thought, Chris leaned in abruptly, his lips crashing onto Ashley’s in a forceful kiss.

Gasps of surprise echoed around them as the onlookers witnessed the unexpected scene.
