It's Your Turn To Cry and Beg, Dear Uncle -
Chapter 19: Bloody Banquet (1)
Chapter 19: Bloody Banquet (1)
Lila inwardly scowled at Jane’s remark. Though she hadn’t exchanged words with Kyra directly, she could already tell the girl was anything but kind. She would never forget how Kyra indirectly called her a whore who could only hide behind men.
Sometimes Lila wondered how the hell did the girl possess such a filthy mouth? She was nurtured by the Synders and grew up in a high-class society yet didn’t have the slightest bit of decency. Still, she maintained a polite smile and made her way to the balcony, fully aware of James’ watchful gaze.
James seemed ready to follow her, but at this moment, his phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a call from an important client. He sighed, excused himself, and stepped into the hallway to take the call.
On the balcony, Kyra immediately noticed Lila’s arrival. "Don’t tell me you barely ate, even though all the dishes are your favorites."
"I’ll eat more after we talk," Lila replied evenly. Both of them spoke in a volume that only the two of them could hear.
Kyra raised an eyebrow, turning to face her. "Oh? And to what do I owe the honor of this little chat?"
"Don’t be sarcastic. I genuinely want to be friends here," Lila tried to open the conversation with an amiable attitude. After all, she was the older one.
As her senior, Lila had to be more mature and patient. Besides, if she could avoid a conflict with Kyra, then all the better. It was always good to have one more friend than one more enemy.
However, Kyra was uncooperative. She chuckled in disdain. "Forgive me, but I don’t befriend a thief."
Lila instantly turned pale. Her jaws tightened as she tried to hide her shame. Being called out by a fellow author was not as devastating as being called out by your junior. In the writing industry, she had published and achieved success first. Regarded as a best-selling author yet at the moment, degraded to that of a thief.
"It...it wasn’t my intention. James was also upset with this."
"Oh, then whatever your attention is?" Kyra asked with a raised brow, her tone laced with curiosity.
The question left Lila momentarily speechless. She knew she was in the wrong, but admitting it now would be unbearably humiliating. Besides, saying anything further might only upset Kyra more—and that wasn’t her goal.
If friendship wasn’t possible, at the very least, they needed to coexist as acquaintances to make her relationship with James smoother. It was clear now that Kyra held a significant place in James’ heart. In fact, it wasn’t an exaggeration to say that she was his reverse scale.
Hence, the only logical choice was to deflect the topic.
"Look, whether you like it or not, I’m James’ girlfriend now. So, it would benefit you if we became friends instead."
Kyra couldn’t help but laugh inwardly at Lila’s audacity. "How very confident of you. I might even be intimidated if you hadn’t just dodged my question. But you did, and this desperate attempt to avoid blame is utterly disgraceful."
Lila’s lips pressed into a thin line as her hands curled into tight fists. Her heart raced, anger simmering beneath the surface.
"You’re pathetic," Kyra added with a faint smirk. "But fine, I’ll humor you. What exactly is this benefit I’d gain from being your friend?"
Lila scoffed, her patience wearing thin. She attempted to intimidate Kyra once more, her voice brimming with confidence. "It won’t be long before I become your aunt. When that happens, our ranks will reverse. You’ll be beneath me and will have to obey me as your senior. You’d do well to make sure I actually like you."
At that, Kyra couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter. The sound was so unexpected that the people inside the room glanced their way, mistaking it for a friendly moment before returning to their meals. Meanwhile, Kyra struggled to contain her cackles.
"How..." she managed between giggles, "Why on earth do you think your marriage to my uncle is a done deal?"
Despite being laughed at, Lila didn’t falter. In fact, she felt even more confident, believing Kyra’s laughter was a mask for nervousness.
"Are you blind?" Lila shot back. "Your family has made their support for our relationship crystal clear. They adore me! So go ahead, laugh all you want, but at the end of the day, we both know my words will soon carry more weight than yours."
Kyra arched an eyebrow, her amusement far from fading. "Are you so sure about that? Last I checked, I’m still their beloved child."
"Adopted child," Lila corrected sharply, her tone dripping with disdain. She wasted no time outlining their differences, her words aimed to cut deep.
"We’re both outsiders who became part of the Synders," Lila said with a smirk. "But while you’re just their child, I’m the wife of their direct descendant—the one who can carry on their bloodline."
Kyra resisted the urge to clap at this performance. Perhaps she’d spent way too much time in the mansion and had forgotten that such shameless people existed.
"Well," Kyra replied with a faint smile, "We’ll have to wait and see if they will continue to like you, enough to even ask for marriage."
"They will," Lila scoffed, confident Kyra was grasping at straws.
Kyra’s smile deepened. She extended her hand and said, "In that case, let’s shake on it."
Lila’s eyes lit with triumph. Finally, Kyra was playing along. She assumed the girl was growing nervous. Without hesitation, Lila reached out to shake Kyra’s hand.
But in a swift, unexpected movement, Kyra grasped Lila’s hand and yanked it toward her chest. Time seemed to slow for Lila as she watched the scene unfold.
As her palm brushed Kyra’s chest, the girl’s body suddenly pitched backward, toppling over the balcony railing.
At that exact moment, the door to the private room swung open. James stepped inside and immediately saw the scene, his pupils dilating in horror.
"KYRA!!"
