Chapter 43: Who would take care of them?
Chapter 43: Who would take care of them?
For some reason, Seojin’s number wasn’t reachable. I started feeling Seojun had tried calling Seojin first but since he wasn’t reachable, he decided to call me.
"I need to hurry." I told myself. He was burning up pretty badly. I needed to help him before it got worse.
I got to the pharmacy, still wearing my pajamas, but thank God for my jacket; I bought a thermometer, cold relief patches, fever drugs, and everything that I knew would help reduce his fever.
I hurried back to the apartment and rang the doorbell, but there was no response. I got worried. I left him on the couch, so why wasn’t he opening the door?
Unless... My eyes widened, and I started banging on the door, but there was no response.
I looked at the password space. What was the password? I had no idea. Where do I even begin?
I tried the twin’s birthday, but it didn’t work. Ugh, what could they have used if not their birthday?
Then, I remembered Seojun saying something about my birthday. Could that be it?
Well, only one way to find out.
I tried it and to my surprise, it worked. These kids... How could they have used my birthday as their passcode?
"Whatever." I rushed in, only to find the couch empty.
Where was he? Where did he go?
"Seojun?" I called, heading straight for the bedroom. Then, I found him lying carelessly on his bed with dripping hair. It looked like he took a bath. Wait, a cold bath. "How could you take a cold bath in your condition?" I queried, quickly looking for a towel to dry his hair. "Do you want to die?"
Seojun slowly opened his eyes.
"Hyung," he called. "You came back."
"Of course, I came back. I told you I would." I said. "And why would you take a cold bath when you have a fever? Do you want to die?"
"No, Hyung." He coughed. "I just... Wanted to stay awake." He said. "I wanted to see you, so I had to stay awake, but my eyes..."
"Oh, shut it. There’s no excuse for what you did. Look, your fever is rising and it’s because you went to take a cold shower."
"But... Isn’t it the same as a cold wipe?" He asked and I shook my head.
When will he learn? A cold wipe would help reduce the temperature and keep the patient a little bit cool but it’s completely different when they take a cold shower.
Their bones and every cell within them would feel it, causing them a lot more pain.
After all, one of the reasons he caught a fever was because of the cold weather. I was sure of it.
I dried Seojun’s hair till I got rid of every drop of water. The water on his body had already dried up thanks to his continuously rising temperature.
It got me worried.
I took out the thermometer, checked his temperature, and almost dropped to see it was at 40 degrees. No wonder it felt like my skin was going to burn.
"My head hurts, Hyung. I feel like it’s about to explode." Seojun said and I felt pity for him.
He was struggling with both cold and heat. Extreme heat, causing his body to feel like a hot kettle.
Whereas his insides were cold, his outsides were burning.
"Come. You need to take this medicine. You’ll feel better after you do." I said, helping him sit up. I handed him the meds and a glass of water.
Good thing he wasn’t stubborn about taking medicine. I took the glass from him.
"Hopefully, it’ll start working soon." I said and stroked his hair.
He paid back and I watched him. He looked so weak but he still looked handsome. Gosh, it was like his handsomeness was immune to even sickness. It wouldn’t fade.
Jeez, what am I thinking of at a time like this? He’s sick.
"Anyway, what did you have for dinner?" I asked but he went silent. I palmed my face. "Of course, a sick person wouldn’t be able to cook for themselves." I said.
"Are you mad?" Seojun asked but I shook my head.
"Not at you." I said. "I’ll prepare porridge for you. You’ll eat that, right? I hope you’re not picky with food when you’re sick."
"I won’t be picky if Hyung feeds me." He said and I closed my eyes.
He’s a patient. There’s nothing wrong with feeding a patient.
"Alright. I’ll feed you. Now, get some rest."
"Come back soon, Hyung. I want to see you." He said, slowly shutting his eyes.
I smiled and went to prepare the porridge. If I was fast enough, I’d get it ready in thirty minutes.
I went to the kitchen, looked through their heavily loaded fridge, and took out the things needed to prepare the porridge.
I was honest when I said I wasn’t mad at him. Then, who was I mad at?
Myself.
If I had just gone ahead and checked up on him, instead of contemplating and figuring useless wars in my mind. Maybe his condition wouldn’t have worsened to this extent.
I told myself I was staying away for their own good, but what good would that do if something like this keeps happening? Instead of checking up on them, I ignored them, hoping someone else would do it, but who else would care for them?
Who else but me?
I need to get my head straight. They were in this country because of me so the least I could do was take care of them.
Think with your head and not with your lower body, they said. As long as I kept the mindset that they were kids, stronger than the thought of them being handsome young men then I would certainly be able to pull through.
I carried the hot porridge to the room and found Seojun sleeping soundly. It looked like the medicine was already taking effect since he was already sweating.
’That’s good. All that’s left is to feed him the porridge.’
"Hyung, is that you?" Seojun called, slowly opening his eyes. I dropped the porridge on the lamp table, only to get pulled by the arm.
I almost lost my balance but luckily I didn’t and ended up with just one knee on the bed.
"I’ve missed you Hyung." Seojun said, smiling brightly at me. He looked like he was having a dream of some sort.
He held my wrist tightly and didn’t want to let go.
"What do you mean? I’ve only been gone for thirty minutes." I said, still not understanding the situation I was in. "But that aside, the porridge is ready. Sit up properly so I can...mph!"
My words sunk back into my throat and my eyes widened as the unthinkable happened. My lips were captured in what you call a sudden kiss.
Seojun had pulled my hand and kissed me.
Wait, a kiss? Seojun was... Kissing me? Huh?
He... What was he doing?
Seojun let go and to my face, with his reddened cheek, he confessed.
"I like Hyung a lot. I really want Hyung to know my feelings. I..." He smiled. "Like you, Hyung."
