Chapter 151: You don’t know what you’re talking about

The brown-haired guy sat opposite Dongwoo while Dongwoo looked through his files.

"So, you have experience in two former jobs and you were let go on both." Dongwoo said and the brown haired guy looked aside.

He looked stubborn and looked like he would argue that it wasn’t his fault but surprisingly, he kept his mouth shut.

’I know how it feels. I’ve been there so I know it’s not your fault.’ Dongwoo thought and closed his file. "Your name was...?"

"Eunwoo. Kang Eunwoo!" Eunwoo introduced himself.

"Kang Eunwoo. You look like you’re going through a lot, being thrown more than you can handle." Dongwoo said. "And I’m not just guessing. From your eyes... You look dissatisfied and unhappy."

He closed the file and faced Eunwoo.

"Are you unhappy that ’I’ of all people, are the photographer you’re going to be working with?" Dongwoo asked and Eunwoo gave out a sigh, clearing his heart to clear his mind.

"I’m not that petty." He said. "I’ve worked with all sorts of people to the point that I don’t even care who I work with anymore, as long as I get paid."

"Then?"

"What I’m unhappy about is not the job, not you or the company. It’s my life." Eunwoo said. "I’ll probably flop this interview and then get on with another round of job hunt. I’ve got another interview later, so if, after looking through my resume, you think I’m not going to cut it, please let me know right away so I can get out of your hair."

Dongwoo went silent, observing Eunwoo carefully. He looked deep into his eyes, making Eunwoo rather uncomfortable, but Dongwoo had to do that if he wanted to make the right judgment.

He believed what his eyes could see and not the words or attitude of a person.

When life throws bitterness at you, there’s no way you could act sweet. And when life throws sweetness, your bitterness fades like the wind but there will always be traces left.

Eunwoo was rude, yes, but it wasn’t like his life was a bed of roses. He had no obligation to be nice to a person who may never appear in his life again.

When things are hard, one tends to get worked up and irritated easily. Everything just seems to get on your nerves.

"Can I leave?" Eunwoo suddenly asked, catching Dongwoo off guard.

"Do you want to leave so badly?" He asked. "You haven’t heard what I have to say."

"If you wanted to hire me, would it take this long?" Eunwoo asked and Dongwoo had to give it a thought.

"Well, maybe not but..."

"I have one more thing to say." Eunwoo suddenly added, interrupting him.

"Sure. Go ahead and speak your mind."

"How did you do it?" He asked, confusing Dongwoo.

"Sorry? I didn’t get that."

"You’re not like them." He said. "And compared to them, you work at this huge company so how are you like that?"

"Oh, are you trying to ask how I’m so nice?" Dongwoo asked, wondering if that was it but Eunwoo denied.

"I didn’t say you were nice." He said. "But someone like you wouldn’t survive in this industry without real connections and it doesn’t look like you have that, cause if you did, you wouldn’t be so...so..."

"Nice?" Dongwoo completed his sentence and then laughed. "Well, I certainly don’t have those but I don’t think that’s the reason why I can be ’nice’." He said and pursed his lips. "Eunwoo, it’s not the position that matters." He leaned his head closer and whispered. "It’s the heart."

He rested back on his chair and smiled at Eunwoo.

"So, Eunwoo, if life finally throws you candy bars, will you finally loosen up?" He asked.

"What do you mean?" Eunwoo asked, confused.

"Eunwoo, if you had a good-paying job, one that solved all your problems, would that unhappiness in your eyes finally fade?" He asked with a caring expression.

Eunwoo bowed his head and clenched his fists.

"You don’t know what you’re talking about." He said. "How could you possibly tell if that would be the end of my problems?"

"I don’t know. Maybe it’s because up until a few weeks ago, I was in your shoes." Dongwoo softly said, his voice low and understanding. "I had so many problems. It was like I was the man with the most problems. But then, an opportunity showed itself." He lifted his gaze. "What you need right now is an opportunity and I’m going to give it to you."

Eunwoo was stunned. Was that really happening? An opportunity? Out of nowhere.

"You... Did you look at my records properly?" He asked.

"Hm, I believe you confirmed I did after showing that expression that screamed, ’It wasn’t my fault.’" Dongwoo said.

"You don’t know anything about me."

Dongwoo tilted his head. He understood it was hard to believe but why did it look like he was trying to make him hate him?

As if he didn’t want to stay there any second more.

’Do I intimidate him?’ Dongwoo thought and then he snapped his fingers. ’Ah, then if that’s the case, I think I succeeded in not looking like a pushover.’ he thought and cackled.

Eunwoo couldn’t tell if Dongwoo was losing his mind or if he was crazy like that on a normal day.

’Ah, no one’s normal.’ he thought.

"Eunwoo," Dongwoo called, suddenly taking his hand. "Can I call you Eunwoo?"

"Um, I guess so." Eunwoo said still feeling uncomfortable.

"Then Eunwoo, my name is Lee Dongwoo, but you can call me Dongwoo. Just don’t call me Hyung; they wouldn’t like that." He said, and Eunwoo tilted his head.

’They? Who are they?’

"Eunwoo, would you allow me to get to know you better? From now on, you will be my assistant so let’s get along." Dongwoo was coming on quite strongly with the introductions and Eunwoo was still a bit lost.

Already? Just like that? Was he dreaming perhaps?

’I must still be getting ready to attend the interview and I’m asleep somewhere.’ Eunwoo thought. ’This can’t be real. It’s a simulation in my brain, isn’t it?’

But the more he looked into Dongwoo’s lively blue eyes, the more he felt that it was all real.

His hands were warm, and his intentions seemed sincere, but he couldn’t be too sure.

Humans were capable of changing in a split second. How was he so sure he wouldn’t change his character as soon as he accepted to be his assistant and signed the contract?

And he was a photographer at Wailers; why was it that he had never seen his face on the internet? Was he a no-name?

’Wait, did he say Lee Dongwoo?’ his eyes widened. ’Don’t tell me. Is it ’that& Lee Dongwoo?’

He finally knew who he was. If he was going to be working for such a big shot whose name was reining all around the entertainment industry, then... This was indeed an opportunity worth taking, even if it might end up being a trap.

"So, what do you say?" Dongwoo asked, seeing Eunwoo had softened up a bit. "Will you be my assistant?"

Eunwoo nodded and finally answered,

"Yes. I will be your assistant." He got up, taking his hand from Dongwoo’s hold, and stretched it out in a proper handshake. "I look forward to working with you, boss."

’Wow, the word boss hits hard.’ Dongwoo thought. He didn’t think he would call him that.

He was going to be comfortable being called by his name but this was also fine.

He stretched his hand and shook him.

Eunwoo felt he had indeed hit the jackpot. He would give places if he stuck with a name like Dongwoo’s.

’I’ll go home today and stretch my legs. Ah, I can finally rest easy.’

He was still dwelling in his thoughts when Dongwoo dropped a heavy bomb on him.

"Great. So, can you start work right away?"

"What?!"
