Chapter 204: Chapter 9: The Brutal Slaughter

Vilechka retreated.

Then a moment passed.

Earl Kant learned that the Carter Family was ready to charge at the enemy’s rear.

"Sound my signal," Earl Kant said to the Scout.

The alliance of Nobles was determined to win this attack.

Few armies of this era could withstand the pressure of being attacked from two sides.

Earl Kant had never heard of it.

Neither had Sir Flant.

Being attacked in a valley by an enemy force twice their own size?

Which army could withstand such combat pressure?

To be safe, they had embedded Conquest Knight units within their troops.

Because the next wave of attacks was coming from Earl Kant’s Conscript Army.

With over seventy Conquest Knights accompanying the attacking conscripts, ready to take on spearhead and raiding tasks when necessary.

This was to prevent Earl Kant’s Conscript Army from suffering unbearable losses and being pushed back. Thus, they ordered the Conquest Knights from all major families to join them.

They certainly played a supervisory role in the fight.

But if necessary, they would also become the main force to crush the enemy.

And so,

the largest-scale attack began!

Earl Kant’s three thousand Conscripted Soldiers, over seventy Knights, and three hundred Knight attendants formed a massive army that surged forward like a tidal wave towards Roman’s forces.

And then they encountered a hail of arrows.

Earl Kant’s face turned dark.

Flant couldn’t bear to look.

Damn it!

Every time they thought Roman was out of ammo and supplies, he always managed to give them a damn surprise!

You had already shot eighteen thousand arrows in the first three waves of attack!

How could you still have more! Is this some sort of cheat code!

Earl Kant ordered the front ranks to raise their shields, braving the storm of arrows as they charged forward, a tactic completely different from the conservative approach they had taken before.

A signalling arrow was shot into the sky, letting out a piercing wail.

...

A kilometer away.

Bald Carter, hearing the noise, immediately set off with five hundred family warriors, charging directly towards the rear.

What awaited them were Roman’s four hundred Heavy Infantry.

The terrain of the valley was clearer to Roman than to the Noble Alliance.

It had its disadvantages and advantages.

By forgoing the Conquest Knights, he had to accept the terrain’s disadvantages.

The odds of being attacked from both sides were too high.

Anyone with a bit of sense would choose this tactic.

So he ordered the Heavy Equipment to guard the rear.

But the warriors of the Carter Family were not foolish men.

Those warriors, tall and brave, with long hair and beards, skin smeared with blood, had a beast-like presence.

Times had changed; last time they had stormed the beach and suffered heavy losses.

This time everyone was on land, and they refused to believe they would suffer again.

A beast-like army of about four or five hundred charged over.

But that wasn’t the point.

The point was the beast-like warriors at the very front, each carrying ten thick logs!

Each log, half a meter thick and five or six meters long, was carried by eight beast-like warriors, swinging them like battering rams as they charged with an unstoppable force!

"Break through them!!" Bald Carter roared at the forefront.

...

At the frontline.

The armies on both sides fiercely clashed together.

The Archers with Super Long Spears took advantage of their range to skewer the first wave of attackers.

Thus, the conscripted soldiers at the rear became the first to go, their pupils reflecting the cold glimmer of spear tips and blades.

They were afraid, wanting to retreat.

But the soldiers behind them surged forward, pressing them to attack.

The front lines retreated.

The rear advanced.

Even farther back, the knights coerced the soldiers not to falter.

In such crowded ranks, soldiers who fell could even be trampled to death by their comrades.

They had no room to retreat.

Finally, on a path paved with blood and bodies, the two sides began hand-to-hand combat.

The battle line was severely distorted and deformed, the somewhat orderly defenses began to collapse, no longer neat, and entered an even more brutal stage of hacking each other down.

It was then that the Conquest Knights began their trouble.

They were clad in cloak-like covers, mixed among the regular soldiers.

Another piercing sound of arrows filled the air as over seventy Conquest Knights neatly lifted their covers, revealing full body plate armor of different colors, becoming the most striking presence on the battlefield.

They were confident, there was no army on the battlefield that would not be terrified by the sight of them!

Dismounted Conquest Knights were still Conquest Knights!

The Conquest Knights pierced straight through the middle of the battlefield like a sharp knife.

Splat!

In an instant, blood spurted, heads rolled!

On the increasingly chaotic battlefield, a somewhat disorganized battle line was still maintained, with an original depth of three to four meters that gradually expanded to seven or eight meters, intertwining like a dog’s teeth.

And the vanguard of the knights thrust forward ten meters deep as if entering an unoccupied territory, instantly breaking the balance.

They had killed thirty to fifty soldiers along the way, as if they were simply chopping vegetables.

This stroke!

It completely disoriented Roman’s frontline troops!

"Aaron! Green! Dick! Stop them for me!"

Roman stood on a relatively higher platform, pulling back the Riptide Great Bow, the Magic Steel Arrow ready to unleash, instantly piercing through two Conquest Knights.

But this was of no help to the overall situation of the battlefield.

Green drew his Silver Steel Sword, Aaron clutched his fine steel shield tightly.

"Squadron leaders of the first squad, follow me up!"

The two Conquest Knights directly under Roman surged forward, and the squadron leaders they led also had the skills of First Rank Knights.

They were like a dam, stopping the flood that seemed unstoppable.

The other soldiers saw their officers taking the lead against the pressure of the battle line.

The morale began to stabilize.

Aaron charged forward, and the vanguard knight he collided with had his steel sword chopped on the shield, and then was knocked to the ground.

Aaron wielding a fine steel shield weighing seventy to eighty pounds, smashed the shield down with full force! Smash! Smash!

The knight on the ground felt his blood surge and his mind cloud with confusion.

Green and Dick intercepted another vanguard knight, the former bellowed, "All squad leaders! Lead your men to retreat! Retreat quickly!"

The battle line was breached.

The soldiers on both sides had to pull back, or else they would be engulfed by the enemy tide.

In such circumstances, the squad leaders also began calling out their men’s names, ordering them to retreat.

"Ed! Kael! Wima! Boss! Damn it, drop your long spears! Retreat! I’ll cover our retreat! I’ll cover our retreat!"

The shouts of many squad leaders were seemingly insignificant amidst the frenzied melee.

They selflessly covered the retreat of the common soldiers.

Two hundred longbowmen released arrows like rain, maximizing their shooting speed, suppressing the noble coalition’s attack rhythm, but still unable to halt their advancing speed.

Roman’s squad and squadron leaders struggled to withstand the multitude of Conquest Knights.

They could only slow the latter’s advance, fighting while retreating.

"Nathan! Realign the battle line!"

Roman shot his fifth Magic Steel Arrow.

His arrows were unerringly accurate, and with each strike, one or two enemies would fall.

Nathan, who had been eagerly waiting, suddenly stood up.

His roar even overpowered the thunderous shouting from the front lines.

"Third squad! Stand up! Block
