Chapter 169: Chapter 6: Battlefield Simulation

Beyond the Witch Forest, there are other secret societies, with certain obscure wizards possessing genuine abilities.

Some secret societies hide deep in the mountains, while others hide in the cities.

Strange and varied rumors undoubtedly add to the mystery of these covert organizations.

Roman had heard whispers of some of these societies.

For example, some that could turn stone into gold, some that could petrify people, monastic hermits who worshiped demons, and some monastic societies that believed in All Gods but were considered heretical by the Church Court.

Among them, the Cangyue Kingdom had the most societies and the greatest variety of schools.

The atmosphere of legends was especially dense there.

The mountainous nation was not only home to wizards, societies, and monsters, but also demons... and Demon Hunters, widely known across the lands.

The ruler of that place was the Cangyue Queen, the former Crimson Baroness, the legendary Vampire, who took the throne with great ceremony on that cursed land, her foundation solid and stable.

This was considered quite the anomaly even among the Seven Kingdoms.

But the world was full of many such anomalies.

Roman could not let his two little witches go to the Cangyue Kingdom to learn the Witch’s Magic.

Lacking connections was one issue, but the land was also genuinely cursed.

Ordinary farmers would sometimes grow wolf fur and run wildly to the cliffs to howl at the moon on the night of the full moon;

Children would disappear in the mountains, rumored to be sacrificed to demons;

Fairies and ghost birds transformed into beautiful young women to tempt unsuspecting travelers to do evil deeds.

The Divine Mysterious King and the Church Court had tried to destroy Cangyue but were powerless, as the Conquest Knights couldn’t exert their full strength in the mountainous terrain.

For these two little witches, Roman thought it best not to rush their training.

Nurturing was a rather lengthy process.

He had considered upgrading them by adding points to their Attribute panel, but they were too young, and Roman’s resources were limited, so he had to use them sparingly.

After dinner, Roman returned to his room.

In the most spacious bedroom of Origin Manor, the maids hung five oil lamps on the wall, illuminating the entire room clearly.

Roman sat at his desk, pulled open the drawer, and took out all the gemstones.

Some were pink, some as vivid as fresh blood, some crystal clear, and some a vibrant red with a tinge of purple.

There were six in total, varying in size and weight; the smaller gemstones were worth one or two Gold Coins, while the larger ones were worth five or six. Their quality was not high.

But they were primarily red gemstones.

These were the yields of the entire winter mining season; the rest had all been used up by Roman.

Not a single Blue Gemstone or green gemstone was left.

Any gemstone could enhance Angel Envoy Skills.

After verification, Roman discovered that Blue Gemstones had the most significant enhancement effect.

He was at the forefront of knowledge, and with the power of gemstones, he gathered that knowledge into a stream, flowing into the souls of the Angel Envoys.

But this stream would be interrupted and consumed.

Because of the gemstones’ colors and qualities, the speed at which knowledge flowed varied.

The absorption rate of Blue Gemstones was undoubtedly the highest, giving more effect for less effort.

But that didn’t mean other resources were useless.

Red gemstones were also very useful in other ways.

...

[Current Level: 0—1 (Cleared)]

[Enter Battlefield Simulation?]

"Yes!"

Roman used the smallest Ruby to exchange for three Simulation Coupons, while a Blue Gemstone of the same size could only be exchanged for one.

...

[One Simulation Coupon can take along 12 Angel Envoys, please select the number of Simulation Coupons]

...

Trying for the first time, he pondered for a moment and decided to use just one Simulation Coupon to see the effect.

He then picked eight relatively familiar Soldier Angel Envoys and four newly recruited Angel Envoys from the Angel Envoy interface.

Roman saw that the level’s progress bar had three flags, representing three waves of battle.

The first time was Conquest Knights recklessly charging into shield formations.

The second time was when Aaron and Green led 200 lightly armored soldiers in an attack on Pudun Village and Baron Crow’s conscripted army.

The third time involved 100 archers intercepting the cavalry and the conscripted soldiers, resulting in the most brutal casualties and injuries.

...

[Begin Action]

...

A thick fog obscured Roman’s vision.

When the fog finally cleared, Roman found himself hiding beneath a heavy shield.

The twelve Angel Envoys did the same, their expressions stiff, like puppets, taking the place of the original heavy soldiers according to their positions.

The ground shook as the Conquest Knights charged.

But the battle ended quickly, with Roman and the rest of the Angel Envoys replacing heavy soldiers, and everything happened just as it had, with no chance to intervene.

Facing the heavy defense line, the Conquest Knights were knocked off their horses and turned upside down.

Soon, thick fog swept in from nowhere.

...

Next time, they appeared among the light troops led by Aaron and Green, confronting Baron Crow’s conscript army just tens of meters away.

Roman saw for the first time Baron Crow, whom he had ordered hanged.

But he paid more attention to the ensuing melee combat.

He turned his head and asked a newly recruited Angel Envoy, "Who are you?"

"Destiny! I am your Angel Envoy, currently without a code, my name is Ed Rogers!"

The One Star Angel Envoy answered in a stiff, mechanical manner.

"What are we here for?"

"To do what you tell us to do!"

"Very good!"

Roman drew his curved sword and aimed at the approaching conscripted soldiers, "Follow me in for the kill!"

They took a step forward, engaging the enemy before anyone else.

Roman, through the actions of swinging the sword and clenching his fist, confirmed that this body in the simulation was no different from reality. He took the lead into the enemy’s ranks and quickly slashed two conscripted soldiers, the blood splashing on his neck felt exceedingly real.

Just tens of seconds passed, and the battle ended quickly.

Thick fog erupted in the blink of an eye.

...

This time Roman and the remaining seven Angel Envoys materialized within the archers’ ranks, all injured, other envoys having given their lives in the previous fight.

"Fire at will!" someone commanded.

Roman drew his bow and loosed it, and the other Angel Envoys pretended to shoot. However, having never practiced archery, their movements were clumsy. One Angel Envoy even managed to accidentally wound an ally; God knows how he managed that.

Among the six, only Roman caused effective casualties.

Here it comes!

The thunder of hooves, the Conquest Knights at the forefront, pierced through like a sharp knife.

The archers were terrified, and so were the Angel Envoys brought by Roman, trembling and stiff with movement, instinctively fleeing.

The Conquest Knights, carrying immense impact, were equivalent to a tank crushing directly ahead at a speed of fifty to sixty kilometers per hour—any person would want to dodge.

Some people’s instinctive reactions are quicker than thought in the face of a crisis, while others become rigid, unable to move.

Not to mention the Angel Envoys and archers.

Even Roman, facing the knight’s charge for the first time, felt the thunderous might shatter all obstructions in front, whizzing past him and lifting a whirlwind.

Boom!

Roman only felt his facial skin twitching, drawing a light breath.

This was far more thrilling than a car crash.

His two Angel Envoys bore the brunt, not having a chance to cry out before they were hit and killed.

Roman knew the outcome, and by then, he started to admire his soldiers, who were able to overcome fear and launch a counterattack.

...

What’s called a battlefield simulation.

It’s being able to take other Angel Envoys and experience battles that once were.
