Chapter 996: Chapter 995: Focus of the Entire Venue

The Alchemy College’s disciple recruitment competition consisted of three parts; the first two were mere qualifying rounds. Only the third part was crucial and primary since the first two rounds, though they eliminated many, also left many behind.

Two thousand candidates were present for the third day’s assessment, all vying for one of the thirty-two spots.

Additionally, as per tradition, after the end of the third assessment, the top three ranks were also decided, especially the first rank, who would become the new star of the Alchemy College. Upon entry into the Alchemy College, substantial resources would be inclined towards them, essentially providing them with focused training.

Yusuf Zuck and Rafael Case arrived at the exam venue early on the second day, with Rafael Case explaining the content of the third assessment to Yusuf Zuck.

"The third assessment allows candidates to set their terms. The college will provide materials and formulas for elixirs ranging from tier one to twelve. Candidates have one choice. You could choose a tier-one elixir or a tier-twelve elixir; as long as you can produce it, excelling in quantity or quality, you will advance."

"Understood. But historically, which tier elixirs do newcomers usually choose during the entry assessment?" Yusuf asked, curious.

"Of course, it’s tier-one. You’re just entering; you haven’t even stepped through the door yet. Previously, you could only have some theoretical knowledge. Alchemy and theory are entirely different. As long as you produce a tier-one elixir that is superior in quantity and quality, you should be able to advance!"

"Has anyone chosen a tier-two elixir?" Yusuf continued.

"There are some, but very few. After all, you only get one chance. If you fail, you won’t even get the chance to register again, and the gates of the Alchemy College won’t open for you again."

"What tier do you think Delilah Ferguson will choose?" Yusuf asked with a smile.

"Her?" Rafael Case also narrowed his eyes while taking a deep breath, "Definitely tier-two, not tier-one. She definitely wants to take first place, and she’s not lacking in resources. Plus, Edison Yates is her uncle, so she probably has some experience with alchemy. Moreover, she is a genius, so choosing a tier-one elixir, even if she wins, would bury her reputation as a genius!"

"Oh, let’s wait and see," Yusuf nodded.

"What about you? Which tier will you choose? You haven’t told me yet what tier elixir you can make," Rafael Case pressed.

"Just tier-two; my talent for alchemy isn’t high," Yusuf shrugged.

"Phew," Rafael Case took a deep breath, "Tier-two isn’t bad either. As long as you can still produce the Tier-Two Spirit like you did in Jade Sea and Cloud Sky, I’ll ensure your entry. Of course, you absolutely must not expose your Yin-Yang Heart Flame. I’m telling you, if it’s exposed, countless people will fight over it, even my master and grandmaster will be tempted. Don’t blame me for not warning you!"

"Haha, are you actually talking behind your master and grandmaster’s back?" Yusuf laughed heartily.

"I can’t help it. I know which side my bread is buttered on. Right now, we’re the closest, aren’t we?" Rafael Case fawned.

"Stay away from me, you have bad breath!" Yusuf gave him a glance.

"That’s nonsense, where do I? That was just because I was overheated a few days ago; heart, stomach, and throat fire, so there was a bit of a smell from my mouth. But it’s gone now, please don’t insult my character, and don’t hurt my self-esteem!" Rafael Case stiffened his neck and protested.

"Alright, alright, I was wrong. Can we stop talking now? We’re at the exam hall. See you!" Yusuf said no more to Rafael Case and walked into the exam hall.

Actually, he quite enjoyed chatting with the old man; it was particularly interesting. Although their relationship was of servant and master, or possibly mentor and disciple, their communications shared a mutual delight. Hence, after interacting these past few days, they had quite seen eye to eye.

Yusuf drew a lot, which corresponded to Pill Furnace number thirty-three, an unlucky number since only thirty-two were being accepted; any other candidate would have been extremely nervous.

However, Yusuf calmly walked to the number thirty-three Pill Furnace and circled around it!

"Hmph!" Just as he was circling the Pill Furnace, Delilah Ferguson, standing five steps to his left, suddenly harrumphed.

Yusuf gave the woman a surprised look; she had drawn number thirty-two.

Someone else approached on his right, another woman, about twenty years old; Yusuf remembered her name was something like ’Maria Haney’—they had attended the interview together!

In front of him was one of Delilah Ferguson’s attendants, a handsome young man, and behind him was another of Delilah’s attendants, also a handsome young man.

Several people went to their respective Pill Furnaces to check them and then gathered around Delilah Ferguson, starting to whisper among themselves.

It was Maria Haney who, accidentally making eye contact with Yusuf Zuck, even chuckled and bowed, seemingly in good spirits.

"All candidates, silence!" Finally, the examiner for the third event spoke, and to everyone’s surprise, it was Edison Yates, responsible for today’s Alchemy exam.

The square instantly fell silent, and Edison Yates continued loudly, "Today’s examination rules are already posted on the board, so the Alchemy College will not elaborate. In short, measure your capabilities accordingly: whether you are admitted or eliminated, the Alchemy College hopes that you all sincerely complete today’s trial." This fellow was merely a vice dean, not even the chief vice dean, yet he kept saying "the Alchemy College" as if proclaiming to the world that he would soon succeed as the dean.

"Hmm, as per the usual practice, we have prepared twelve grades of Elixir materials and formulas, so begin now. Come to the front desk to collect the grade and materials you wish to challenge, starting with the front row!"

As Edison Yates’s words fell, the candidates in the front row began to collect their materials, but everyone was taking only the Tier-One Elixirs; no one bothered with the Tier-Two section.

Shortly after, Delilah Ferguson walked forward, followed by Yusuf Zuck, with Maria Haney trailing behind him.

Delilah Ferguson held her head high and puffed out her chest, wearing a stunningly beautiful red robe today, capturing everyone’s attention as she approached the front desk.

She was already ranked first among the five colleges; even so, in the Alchemy College, hence many knew that she definitely wouldn’t choose a Tier-One Elixir.

True to form, she gracefully bypassed the Tier-One Elixir section and didn’t even pause in the Tier-Two section!

At that moment, many in the exam hall started murmuring, some even gasping in shock, for what she was doing was incredible. A freshman, yet daring to attempt a Tier-Three Elixir—was this not a defiance of the heavens?

Delilah Ferguson was about to create her sixth wonder.

However, she did not stop when she reached the Tier-Three Elixir section either!

"Boom—" Finally, the crowd erupted when she passed the Tier-Three Elixir section, aiming to craft a Tier-Four Elixir.

"Hey hey hey, that’s not right, the little practitioner has gone the wrong way!"

"He’s followed Delilah Ferguson into the Tier-Four Elixir section!"

"Must be out of his mind, who is he? So off the mark?"

"That’s exactly right, a menial disciple of Lukas Case from the Alchemy College—a dolt indeed!"

"Delilah Ferguson has finally stopped in the Tier-Four Elixir section."

"Still not right, why has Maria Haney also followed that disciple of Lukas Case to the Tier-Four Elixir section?"

At this point, many in the exam venue realized something was amiss. Delilah Ferguson was candidate number thirty-two, Zayden Newton thirty-three, Maria Haney thirty-four; how could all three openly proceed to the Tier-Four Elixir section? Zayden Newton being a fool might have mistakenly followed, which was understandable, but Maria Haney wouldn’t typically make such an error, would she?

"Respected candidate, behind you are the Tier-Three Elixirs, and you would need to step back further for Tiers Two and One!" At that moment, an invigilator from the Tier-Four Elixir section finally reminded Yusuf Zuck. At the same time, Delilah Ferguson also looked at him strangely.

"I know, this is a Tier-Four Elixir, right? If they’re all the same, then I’ll just take one set," Yusuf Zuck nonchalantly picked up a set of Tier-Four Elixir ingredients and formula, then bypassed Delilah Ferguson and walked confidently toward the thirty-third Pill Furnace!

"Whoosh—" Seeing the simpleton of Lukas Case actually take a Tier-Four formula, the crowd erupted in commotion!

Following Yusuf, Maria Haney also lightly raised an eyebrow and, after nodding towards Delilah Ferguson, picked up a Tier-Four Elixir set and crossed past Delilah Ferguson towards her own seat.

Delilah Ferguson, who had just been like a proud hen attracting all eyes, becoming the center of attention, now saw the spotlight shift away, leaving her standing there slightly dazed, not yet reacting and also not expecting that, besides herself, others dared to challenge a Tier-Four Elixir!
