Chapter 920: Chapter 919: The Decision of Zhengyi Sect
The Sect was so poor that they couldn’t even afford the trip to the Central Star. For thousands of years, the Sect had stayed on the small Hàoyuè Star and rarely encountered the wider world. As for attending any sort of grand hero assemblies, they had no part in them.
Of course, over the years, the Sect had been quietly persevering in their cultivation. Here, they weren’t in lack of cultivation resources. The Hàoyuè Star was a land rich in exotic treasures, so the sect disciples would gather these treasures and trade them at the market for items needed in their cultivation.
The Sect Leader of the Sect was Devin King. Devin King was an eleventh-level Earth Immortal, so he presided over all matters of the sect. As for Abram Trujillo and others like Luciano, they acted in the shadows, seldom appearing or involving themselves in the affairs of the world.
Although the Sect had taken in quite a number of disciples over the years, the core circle was restricted to just ten of them, with no outsiders permitted to enter.
Since the Sect was relatively small and weak, there were not many disciples—only a few hundred, quietly developing in their own small corner.
Now, the pressing issue had arrived: Yusuf Zuck had resurfaced, alive, and had sent a message asking them to meet at the Central Star, but they did not have the travel funds.
Teleportation Spirit Stones were a scarce resource, and they were not wealthy to begin with. Any exotic treasures they possessed had already been traded for cultivation materials. Additionally, they adhered to a lifestyle of avoiding trouble, content to put down roots here, with outside events being of no concern to them.
The saying goes, "A pennyless man is a hero lost." Without money, they could not reunite on the Central Star. Even if they posted a message at the Dante Stewart Pavilion, it wouldn’t do—they might attract enemies, and they couldn’t afford to hold Yusuf Zuck back.
Luciano suggested they resort to robbery, and indeed they had some capital to do so. Despite their Sect Leader being an eleventh-level Earth Immortal, in reality, they had twelfth-level members as well, along with other eleventh and tenth-levels unknown to outsiders. This was a strategic decision made years ago to preserve their strength and protect themselves, leaving only one person to be the face of the sect.
Specifically, the twelfth-level Earth Immortal Abram Trujillo, the one who had inherited the Immortal Sword, had Divine Skills that could Connect Heaven and Earth, and had long become the guardian deity of the Sect.
Throughout the countless years, there had been several major incidents. For instance, high-level Earth Immortals passing through their star would try to bully the sect or demand protection fees, but Abram Trujillo had always dealt with them covertly and without drawing attention.
"I have a suggestion." After the proposal to rob was rejected, Miles O’brien suddenly said, "The Heaven and Earth Mystical Door has been trying to take us over, right? Why don’t we use this opportunity to join them, or at least negotiate some benefits from them? We could send one or two people with the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door to the Central Star while the rest of us stay behind. If we can reach Yusuf Zuck on the Central Star, we’d eventually be able to meet up with him, without necessarily waiting for the hero assembly."
"They pretend to want to take us over, but aren’t they really after our ’Sun-Pursuing Rain-Swordsmanship’?" Devin King frowned.
"Exactly, we don’t have anything they would really want to take over. We only have a single sect entrance, no land, and no resources. Their main aim is to obtain our practiced Sun-Pursuing Rain Swordsmanship," Abram Trujillo said with concern, shaking his head. "I can teach you my Swordsmanship, but I cannot impart it to outsiders."
"My point isn’t to actually teach them," O’brien continued, "but to deceive them with phony sword moves and manuals, or we could negotiate with them. During the negotiations, we could request to see the world like going to the Central Star."
"I think it’s worth a try!" At this point, the elder Mr. Ye nodded: "If we negotiate properly and buy time, we just have to wait for Yusuf’s arrival, and we’ll have succeeded!"
"I agree."
"Agree."
"Agree."
Luciano, Alfredo Meskill, and the others all nodded in agreement, all looking toward Abram Trujillo. The swordsmanship they practiced now was all imparted by Trujillo, and the power and unpredictability of the Sun-Pursuing Rain Sword were immense.
"Okay, we can only risk a try, but I still can’t show my face; otherwise, it will cause backlash from the other party. The reason we haven’t been exterminated by the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door over all these years is that they don’t consider our Righteous Sect worthwhile, having no threat of a Twelfth Level Earth Immortal, and that’s why they have left us alone."
"Hmm, I volunteer to go and negotiate with Devin King!" Elder Ye stood up and said.
"I’ll go as well," Miles O’Brien also stood up and said.
"Sister-in-law... sister-in-law... maybe you shouldn’t go, hm? There’s nothing good at the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door, we wouldn’t want to invite trouble!" Five Cents warned.
However, Louise Garrett shook her head, "Over a decade ago, while I was traveling outside, I made the acquaintance of Fairy Liu from the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door. I have some relationship with her, and when men negotiate, it’s easy to cause disputes. As a mere woman by their side, I can serve to mediate the situation."
"That’s good, since you are acquainted with Fairy Liu, that will make things easier. Let’s discuss our strategy again. We will depart tomorrow, the sooner the better. Otherwise, once the members of the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door set off for the Central Star, there will be no need for us to negotiate with them!" Devin King reminded.
Thereupon, everyone continued their in-depth discussion, even creating a fake copy of the Daily Advancing Sword Technique overnight. The next day, as the sun rose, Devin King, Elder Ye, and Miles O’Brien flew out of the Righteous Sect, heading towards the most powerful sect on the Bright Moon Star, the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door.
The Heaven and Earth Mystical Door was the top dog on Bright Moon Star, much like Selena Gould’s Heaven Spring Sect. The Sect Leader of the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door was also the planetary ruler, with nine Twelfth Level Earth Immortals and even more at the Eleventh Level, a true behemoth.
Of course, they were only a behemoth on Bright Moon Star; on the Central Star, they were as insignificant as shrimp.
"Swoosh—" After flying for over six hours, they finally arrived at the mountain gate of the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door around noon.
The grandeur of the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door was exceptional, with nearly a hundred thousand disciples. As the leading sect, every other sect on the Bright Moon Star had to watch their faces and act accordingly.
As soon as the three of them landed outside the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door, a junior maintaining the mountain gate immediately flew over and looked at Devin King, Elder Ye, and Miles O’Brien curiously, saying, "Sect Master Devin of the Righteous Sect? Today doesn’t seem to be the day for paying tribute, does it?"
The so-called tribute was the tri-monthly offering that the Righteous Sect was obliged to make to the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door, a longstanding custom never once neglected over countless years.
"Ah, it’s Young Liu. I hope Young Liu can pass on a message to Steward Hao. I have an important matter to discuss with Steward Hao!" Devin King did not have the authority to meet directly with the Sect Leader of the Heaven and Earth Mystical Door, so he had to meet with their steward first.
"Meeting with Steward Hao? At this time, our sect is having a meal. You should wait. I need to eat my lunch as well. After I’ve eaten, I will go and notify him." This junior was a Second Level Earth Immortal, yet he looked down his nose at them and, after speaking, flew straight back into the mountain gate.
Devin King and Elder Ye sighed inwardly, while Miles O’Brien remained composed. As members of a minor sect, they were well accustomed to this sort of treatment in the Cultivation World, where might makes right, and thus their mindset had long since shifted.
However, the wait turned out to be nearly four hours. The three of them stood outside the other’s mountain gate, off to one side, watching others coming and going without being able to so much as take a deep breath, much less inquire further, for fear of being reprimanded.
Fortunately, after nearly five hours, the junior finally brought out a portly elder who came out laughing heartily, cupped his fists and bowed, "Sect Master Devin honours us with your presence. Forgive me for not greeting you from afar. But may I know the purpose of Sect Master Devin’s visit?"
"It’s like this, our Righteous Sect, after collective deliberation, has decided that we wish to pledge allegiance to your Heaven and Earth Mystical Door!"
