Chapter 788: Chapter 787: Beating Up Devin King
In fact, Yoko Ono arrived quite quickly. The next afternoon, Yusuf Zuck received a call from a stranger who introduced himself as the general manager of Sky Easy Ferry Service.
It was not surprising that he could find his number; the boss of a ferry company was also a high-level executive, so asking Marlon Shepherd would do.
When he heard the self-introduction of this boss, Yusuf Zuck was taken aback for a moment before continuing to listen to what he said.
"The thing is, Mr. Zuck, we are hosting a dinner tonight for the senior executives of Mitsubishi Corporation from Japan, and their chairman, Yoko Ono, claims to be an old acquaintance of yours and hopes you can attend,"
"Of course, if Mr. Zuck is not available or does not have time, I can turn her down for you."
"Where is the dinner tonight?" Yusuf Zuck thought for a moment and asked.
"At the Ferreni Grand Hotel, they are staying there," the company manager replied.
"In that case, I won’t attend the dinner, but I’ll book a room at Ferreni. Have Yoko Ono come upstairs to meet me. I’ll have Ms. Kirk from Ferreni inform you of the room number later. That’s all," Yusuf Zuck finished and hung up the phone.
Yoko Ono knew his background well; perhaps this so-called cooperation negotiation was a sham, and the true purpose was to meet him indirectly.
Yusuf Zuck laughed at himself sarcastically. What did Yoko Ono want?
He called Paisley Kirk and asked her to book a room for him at Ferreni, as he had a guest to meet in the evening.
Without asking any questions, Paisley Kirk seemed to call the Ferreni from her office phone without hanging up, and after a moment, she replied, "Big Brother Zuck, it’s all set, a business suite on the fifteenth floor, Room 1501. You can head straight there when it’s time."
"Hmm, call Mr. Chen from the ferry company and give him the room number."
"Okay," Paisley Kirk said and then hung up the phone, while Yusuf Zuck glanced at the time and saw that it was already past four in the afternoon.
Pi returned. Surprisingly, he arrived even later than Yoko Ono. When he entered the yard, he happened to encounter Miles O’brien basking in the sun, so he happily chatted with her.
Originally, when Miles O’brien was frightened, it was he who decisively handled the situation, hiding with her. Hence, their relationship was better than with the other women, and Miles O’brien respected and was polite to him.
"Go on, Yusuf Zuck is in the living room," Miles O’brien said with a smile.
"Yeah, I’m off to see the master," Pi said with a grin as he walked into the living room, where Yusuf Zuck gestured for him to sit down.
"Thanks, master," Pi said, half-sitting on the couch, ready to listen and learn.
"You don’t need to follow up on Yoko Ono’s matter anymore, but do me another favor," Yusuf Zuck thought for a moment and continued, "Find more books about the Divine Sect, preferably ancient and unknown insider information."
"Yes, master, Pi will take care of it as soon as possible," Pi said respectfully.
"Hmm, nothing else, go on with whatever you were doing," Yusuf Zuck said with a smile, getting up and striding out of the living room.
Miles O’brien sat in a rattan chair in the yard. In the late afternoon around four o’clock, the sunshine was warm but not hot, perfect for basking, and she had been recovering well these days.
The health of a person is greatly related to their mood; when the mood is good, the body also improves.
After chatting in the yard for a while, Yusuf Zuck prepared to leave, driving Miles O’brien’s BMW Mini.
Nobody dared to lend him a car anymore because, after returning, he drove two cars, both of which he lost—one left in Zheng’s neighborhood in Shijiazhuang, and the other abandoned in Wulanchabu. He had a history of losing every car he drove.
Miles O’brien was also afraid Yusuf Zuck would lose her car, but she couldn’t refuse to lend it to him, so she could only smile wryly.
However, just as Yusuf Zuck was about to get into the car, Fleur Carson drove up, honking furiously at Yusuf Zuck.
Yusuf Zuck tossed the keys back to Miles O’brien and then climbed into Fleur Carson’s white Land Rover.
"Where is the big boss Zuck headed?" Fleur Carson asked with a smile.
"Ferreni Grand Hotel, you free today?" Yusuf Zuck asked, puzzled.
"Why would I look for you if I had nothing to do?" Fleur Carson cursed with a laugh, "Devin King called me and told me to tell you not to collaborate with Mitsubishi Corporation. I don’t get what he means, though."
"Oh?" Yusuf Zuck’s eyebrows shot up suddenly.
Yusuf Zuck had to admit that Devin King’s team was quite good at gathering intelligence. The fact that they knew so quickly Yoko Ono had entered the country and met with companies under his management, must mean Devin was reaching out in good faith by passing the message through Fleur Carson. Although it was not explicitly stated, the implication was clear: cooperating with a spy company was tantamount to treason.
"I got it. Where’s Devin right now?" Yusuf Zuck asked curiously.
"In the hospital, I reckon? I heard he was tortured in Japan, but the guy sure has grit. When Edmond Frost and his team went to rescue him, he didn’t reveal a single word. He was all wounds. I heard three of his fingers were broken, two ribs were extracted, and his brain suffered severe trauma!"
"Whew." Hearing Fleur’s words, Yusuf Zuck took a deep breath. Truthfully, no matter how much he fought or bickered with Devin, he never subjectively wanted to get rid of him.
Devin was a loyal government man, a deputy team leader who was very responsible and dedicated to the country and its people.
In his interactions and conflict with Devin, Yusuf always ended up playing the villain. Therefore, whether Devin was picking on him or targeting him, it wasn’t personal vendetta; it was because Yusuf was simply too adverse!
"Which hospital is he at?" Yusuf Zuck glanced at the time on his phone, noting it was not yet five o’clock and there was still time before dinner.
"301, I guess? What’s up?" Fleur Carson said, looking at Yusuf Zuck through the rearview mirror.
"Let’s head to the hospital," Yusuf Zuck sighed deeply. Although he often looked down on Devin, the man’s loyalty and protection were still worthy of his respect.
Fleur Carson took a turn towards Hospital 301.
About forty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital. Yusuf had Fleur buy some nutritional supplements, fruit, and flowers while he waited downstairs.
Fleur called him a hypocrite for his pretense of compassion. If it wasn’t for him, how could Devin have gone to Japan to bomb the Prime Minister’s Official Residence? How could he get caught and suffer that fate?
But curse as he might, Fleur still bought flowers and a fruit basket nearby, and then the two of them went to the special ward.
Being a high-ranking official with a general’s authority, Devin lived outside the ordinary law and his treatment was not much less than that of a leader.
His hospital room was isolated, guarded by soldiers, complete with an officer in charge of receiving visitors.
Luckily, the officer recognized Yusuf Zuck. When he saw Yusuf approach, he quickly entered Devin’s room.
Yusuf did not cross the line but stood outside the sentry’s cordon waiting for news.
After about thirty seconds or so, the officer came out with an unpleasant expression, saluted Yusuf, and said, "The chief asks for you to come in."
Yusuf Zuck followed with a grin into the ward, where Devin was wrapped in bandages, his leg in a sling, his eyes red and swollen as if he had conjunctivitis, and both arms in casts. Right then, he looked less human and more like a battered doll.
"Are you satisfied now?" As soon as Yusuf walked in, Devin cursed him through his ventilated mouth.
"Could you... let your men leave? I have something private to discuss with you," Yusuf Zuck chuckled.
Devin was startled, then he nodded to the officer.
The officer didn’t know what Yusuf was up to, nor did Devin know what Yusuf wanted to say to him.
But as soon as the officer stepped out and closed the door, Yusuf lunged forward and punched Devin hard in the chest.
The punch was heavy, bending Devin’s body, and Fleur’s flowers and fruit basket dropped to the floor, her mouth hanging open in shock. Was Yusuf out of his mind?
"I’ve wanted to beat you half to death for a long time, so I’m certainly not going to let you off easy!" Yusuf ignored the utterly confused Devin and the stunned Fleur, striking Devin’s limbs while talking, and pulled out the few teeth Devin had left!
