Chapter 784: 783 Chapter: The Court of Light?
The tomb collapsed, followed by a surge of groundwater, connecting with the ocean, and thus the grave of the great ruler was eternally buried underwater.
Yusuf Zuck took Nehemiah Blevins, Mia Escobar, and the others and started heading back south, as Yusuf lost the will to continue northward. He told Nehemiah Blevins and Mia Escobar that the likes of Big Liu and Lao Ba had died horribly, cut at the waist.
Heavenly Dao is clear and just, retribution never fails; those who commit evil deeds will ultimately face their karma.
Nehemiah Blevins, Mia Escobar, and the others also couldn’t help feeling relieved that they hadn’t gone down. Otherwise, even with Yusuf there, they probably wouldn’t have made it out alive, right?
As for whether there was a mountain of gold and silver inside, Nehemiah Blevins had asked several times. Yusuf had consistently denied it, even claiming that the place was full of wolf bones.
Less than a day’s drive away, they unexpectedly caught up with the Synder sisters’ car, which had become stuck in a swamp, half-submerged. The area was a complete mess, with two skeletons and another half-eaten face lying quietly in the grass, flies swarming everywhere.
It was the Synder sisters. They had apparently encountered a pack of wolves after their car had gotten trapped in the swamp, and then...
Mia and Louise Garrett were too scared to look, but after thinking for a moment, Yusuf flicked two sparks, incinerating the remains of the Synder sisters.
It was as if a curse had been placed on them, not only had Big Liu and the others failed to make it back alive, but the Synder sisters who had left earlier were also dead in this vast sea of grass.
Mia was a bit scared and worried about Yusuf. She had seen movies like ’The Mummy’ that talked about curses placed on those who enter ancient tombs, resulting in the people who initially made it out alive dying in accidents over the following period of time.
She feared that Yusuf was also cursed, scared that Yusuf would die.
Yusuf, however, didn’t care. If the flashes of swords and shadows of arrows inside hadn’t killed him, what would a curse do? After all, Genghis Khan was just an ordinary person who happened to possess two Divine Weapons, but there was a chance that he couldn’t even unleash the true power of the Divine Weapons, like a child wielding a big stick.
The further south they went, the closer they got to areas inhabited by humans, and their mobile phones gradually regained signal. After delving deep into the grasslands, there had been no signal; the idea of mobile coverage without dead zones was just deceptive.
Shortly after Yusuf’s phone regained signal, a call came through. It was from Elijah Burch.
"What’s up? Was Devin King rescued?" Yusuf didn’t care about Devin King’s fate. The reason he had gone to the rescue was that Elijah Burch had pleaded for help; otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered with that bastard.
"Yes, he’s been rescued, but... but..." Elijah Burch spoke in a low voice, hesitating, as if there was something she was afraid to say.
"What’s wrong?" Yusuf was taken aback. Could something have happened? Otherwise, why would Elijah Burch, a Nascent Soul Powerhouse, seem so anxious?
"Sandy and the two others are missing!" Elijah Burch said softly.
"What?" Yusuf was shocked. How could Sandy and the others go missing? Wasn’t Old Man Zhang responsible for picking them up every day?
"What happened?" Yusuf stopped the car and asked sternly.
"There’s no trace to follow. Old Man Zhang went to pick them up on time as usual. But there was a traffic accident on the way, causing a half-hour delay, so he was more than ten minutes late. By the time he reached the school, Sandy was gone. The external surveillance showed Sandy waiting for a bit and then getting into a black Mercedes. The license plate was fake, and since yesterday, all the powerful demons in the capital have been searching, but there’s no sign of Sandy and the others."
"Sandy and the others have already achieved Solidifying Pill. There can’t be that many in the world capable of capturing all three of them at once, right?" Yusuf said coldly.
"They’re just too naive. Brutal methods might be ineffective, but with some cunning tactics, they could still fall victim, like knockout drugs or strong hypnotics!"
"You’re the leader of the Dragon group, how can you not figure this out?" Yusuf Zuck asked loudly.
"I thought about it all last night, it shouldn’t be Japan. Devin King and I both suspect it’s the power of the Church!"
"The Church? What Church?" Yusuf Zuck asked.
"If there is any power in this world that can contend with us, it would be none other than the Church, and by the Church, I mean the Western Luminous Church..."
"I see, but is that Church really that formidable? Weren’t you guys, the Dragon group, supposed to be the most formidable?" Yusuf Zuck made a phone call while getting out of the car, at the same time summoning Mia to get out, because he was going to fly back.
"It’s not that the Church is formidable, but because they have Magic Treasures. We demon cultivators are very wary of their Holy Light and artifacts like that. If we talk about individual strength, at most they are equivalent to our Innate or Foundation Establishment stages, but they have Holy Light, Magic Treasures, and Summoning Techniques."
"Of course, this is just our suspicion. The great demons have already gone to the Vatican."
"I’ll be right back, wait for me!" Yusuf Zuck hung up the phone after finishing speaking and then glanced at Nehemiah Blevins and Mia Escobar getting out of the car, "Drive the car back, something’s come up at home. Mia and I will leave first, we’ll hang out another time, and if you’re free, come look for me in Beijing, keep in touch by phone!" Without waiting for Nehemiah Blevins and Mia Escobar to speak, he wrapped his arms around Mia and vanished instantly.
"Damn, Han, can you tell me if Boss Zhang is still human?" Nehemiah Blevins asked loudly.
"He should be, I guess? Anyway, Mia is human..." Mia Escobar shrugged his shoulders, then jumped into Yusuf Zuck’s car, while he and Rene Benson each drove one, continuing to head back.
Soon, Yusuf Zuck returned to Beijing, and at Louise Garrett’s home, he saw Elijah Burch, Ruth Wilcox, Ember Vance, and others.
"They’re truly not in Beijing. I’ll also go out and look, don’t wander off." Yusuf Zuck seemed absolutely calm on the surface but was seething with rage inside. Why did troubles always arise? Why did people always trouble him? He just wanted to live a simple life with his beloved beauties, hunt when free, eat and drink, and perhaps have a few children. However, now Devin King wanted to blow him up, and Sandy and the others had gone missing?
Who could abduct three Solidifying Pill leopard demons? What other formidable power on Earth was he unaware of?
The Vatican? The Luminous Church? He remembered from news reports that the nation hadn’t established diplomatic relations with the Church, because the Church always tried to meddle in the nation’s internal religious affairs, not recognizing domestically appointed archbishops and the like.
Belief is powerful, no doubt about that, and even the ruling class deeply fears those Sects that preach doctrines, for they can grow strong enough to overturn a nation’s governance. At its core, belief is also a kind of mental indoctrination, convincing you to have faith in their existence, to believe in the existence of Jehovah in this world.
Western thoughts and doctrines are now slowly eroding Mainland China, and Yusuf had seen reports before that when the Church’s beliefs appear, it is often as a vanguard aiming to conquer your nation, making your people believers so that when their nation comes to rule, it will be all the more convenient.
Yusuf was very repulsed by those indoctrinating doctrines; over the years when others celebrated Christmas, he had zero interest because isn’t Christmas about commemorating the Church’s deity?
Was the damn Church so idle as to trouble him? What were their reasons and motives?
Of course, as of now, there wasn’t confirmation that the Church was behind this, but to abduct people without a trace and to subdue three girls so effortlessly, it seemed only the Luminous Church, right?
Yusuf strode out angrily and headed straight west.
.
PS: Uncle doesn’t believe in Christmas either, so I never wished you a Merry Christmas, because I’m not happy. :)
