Chapter 782: Chapter 781: Ghost Fire
Yusuf Zuck, with a smile on his face, stopped moving, and Liu, the boss, stood next to him in line. However, he was trembling a bit because the water below was too cold.
"Number Five, Number Six, get to work," Liu, the boss, commanded in a deep voice.
"Let’s go." Suddenly, Number Five and Number Six each took out a stone and threw it into the cave!
"Boom~" At the moment the stone followed a parabolic path through the air, the entire cavern shook violently. Then there was a light ’click’, followed by the rapid opening of hidden compartments on both sides of the passageway, from which countless arrow-like, dart-like, and even rusted cone-shaped objects densely shot out.
Yusuf Zuck didn’t move, but Liu, the boss, and the others were horrified and all retreated in fear.
Yusuf Zuck caught one of the cone-shaped objects, glanced at it, and laughed, "These are arrowheads; the wooden fletching and such must have rotted away. But you guys are something else," he said with a smile.
"A tomb like this is bound to have such mechanisms, but they’ve been eroded and rusted over the years. Their lethal power isn’t great anymore," Liu, the boss, shook his head and said, "Let’s go, everyone be careful." After that, he took the lead and walked forward.
Yusuf Zuck followed in second place, with the others trailing behind him.
Fortunately, they encountered no more danger along the way. After walking more than a hundred meters, a stone door blocked everyone’s path.
"The door can be opened, it lifts upwards," Yusuf Zuck pointed to the groove beneath the stone door.
"We can’t lift it. The stone door is too heavy, and in this tight space that’s been unchanged for too long, we can only blast it. Number Eight, get ready," Liu, the boss, ordered.
"No need to blast it. It would be no fun if the tomb collapsed. Everyone, step back," Yusuf Zuck signaled for Liu, the boss, and the others to back away.
Meanwhile, Liu, the boss, and the others were curious about how Yusuf Zuck would open the stone door.
When he saw Liu, the boss, and the others retreat three to four meters, Yusuf Zuck suddenly drew his sword swiftly. With a lift of his hand, a purple Sword Qi had already struck the stone door.
With a "bang", the Sword Qi cut through the door as if slicing tofu. The moment it hit the stone door, the door crumbled down.
Liu, the boss, and the others were dumbfounded, repeatedly swallowing their saliva. They were also curious about where Yusuf Zuck’s sword had come from. They hadn’t seen him carrying a sword when they climbed down earlier.
Another blast of cold wind gushed out, and Yusuf Zuck immediately felt a dark energy sweep over his body, causing the hairs on his skin to stand on end. It wasn’t fear that caused this reaction; rather, the cold wind made him extremely uncomfortable.
Half a dozen high-powered lights shone inside, but it was still just a passageway with another stone door ahead.
"What’s the situation?" Yusuf Zuck chuckled bitterly. The tomb’s owner was seriously afraid of being robbed.
"There should still be mechanisms in the passage. Everyone, be careful," Liu, the boss, reminded.
"You guys take your time, I’m going ahead first. This water is making me uncomfortable," Yusuf Zuck stepped out of the water and then floated forward in mid-air.
Liu, the boss, and the others just swallowed their saliva. Yusuf Zuck truly was something else!
Soon, Yusuf Zuck reached the end of the second passageway and didn’t encounter any Mechanism Hidden Weapons, so he again split the stone door with a single sword strike. The moment the door was cleaved, a flash of light charged at him—it was a small flame.
With his remarkable skill and boldness, Yusuf Zuck flicked his finger at the Ghost Fire that made Liu, the boss, and the others exclaim in shock behind him. From his Dantian, the Golden Purple Fire directly incinerated the damn Ghost Fire, sizzling loudly as it burned.
There were no howls, nor did he encounter any ghosts.
Big Liu and the others had also entered the second passage, but after testing with stones again, no hidden weapons were fired.
As Big Liu and his companions walked forward with relief, Yusuf Zuck had already entered a square-shaped tomb chamber.
"Ahhhh~" Just as he entered the tomb chamber and before he had time to see what was inside, screams suddenly erupted from Big Liu and the others behind him.
"Help, Boss Zuck sa..." Big Liu screamed in agony.
Yusuf Zuck quickly turned around and saw Big Liu and the others with their lower halves still standing in the water, but their upper bodies had fallen off.
Six people, all cut in half at the torso.
Yusuf Zuck felt a chill rising from the soles of his feet. He had not even had the chance to save them; they were already dead!
Indeed, they were all dead, and what caused their death was a guillotine blade that had slashed down from the ceiling.
"Hoo~" Yusuf Zuck exhaled a breath of foul air and let out a sigh in his heart. Such a mechanism setup meant it was not for ordinary people to enter. Any regular person who did was doomed. Moreover, Big Liu and the others must have triggered a mechanism under the ground.
Since he had flown in, he had not touched any mechanisms, but Big Liu and his companions didn’t have the ability to fly, which led to their unfortunate end!
Yusuf Zuck did not look back because they were beyond saving, dead beyond any doubt.
Yusuf Zuck felt a sense of regret and heaviness in his heart. Maybe dying in the tomb of a tomb-robbing venture was the ultimate fate of all tomb robbers, fulfilling the old saying of retribution!
That’s right, if you dig up someone else’s ancestral grave, you will face retribution. Surviving until now was not because it wouldn’t come, but because the time hadn’t arrived.
Of course, Yusuf Zuck’s actions today were also akin to digging up ancestral graves, and he too would face retribution in the future.
However, he no longer cared. Having done many evil deeds and killed many people, he had long known he would face retribution. When and what kind of inevitable retribution he might face was uncertain.
After glancing once more at the tomb robbers submerged in the water, he turned to look at the stone chamber.
This was not the main burial chamber; it was likely a secondary burial chamber or an annex for burial artifacts. Due to the water on the floor and the silt within it, he could only see two objects in the water reflecting slivers of green light, like the eyes of ghosts.
Ordinary people seeing that green light would get frightened, but he felt it wasn’t ghostly eyes. It was probably the light reflected by emeralds under illumination, so he reached into the water and dredged up two semi-circular green stones from the muddy depths.
They were likely emeralds that had been embedded in a hat. Yusuf Zuck glanced at them a few times before throwing them back into the water. He was not short of treasures, and he didn’t want anything with a sinister aura. To give them away would be to curse someone!
"Hmm, three doors, huh?" Yusuf Zuck then turned his attention to the three doors in the stone chamber. There was one on each side wall and another straight ahead. Including the one he had broken open, there were four doors in this square-shaped chamber.
Yusuf Zuck couldn’t be bothered to figure out where these doors led. Instead, he quickly unleashed three sword strikes, breaking open all three doors at once!
As the three doors were breached, one door burst into flames as it was filled with the same ghost fire he had encountered earlier, while the other two were pitch black.
Unsure of the origin of the ghost fire, Yusuf Zuck had heard stories back in his hometown about graveyards often afflicted by such ethereal flames, known as phosphorus fire. Science had yet to explain their formation, but this phosphorus fire was very light, and any movement from a person would stir it up, making it seem as if the flames could move on their own, which was quite terrifying.
After considering for a moment, Yusuf Zuck decided not to enter the passage with the ghost fire. Instead, he followed the old rule of "men left, women right," realizing that the main door of this strange tomb might not necessarily lead to the main burial chamber, so he entered the left door, known as the Dark Door.
