Chapter 650: Chapter 649: Sacrificing My Life to Save Yours
It might have been a telepathic connection, or perhaps Louise Garrett could smell Yusuf Zuck on her, but the moment the whip shocked her into lifting her head, her gaze also fixed on Zuck’s face.
Instantly, tears cascaded down as she mustered the strength to rise, her hands gripping the iron cage tightly, her entire body still trembling, eyes filled with pleading and desolation.
She just stared straight at him as if to etch his image into her heart.
"Crack–" Another whip sounded, the bare-chested man’s accuracy was uncanny, striking directly on her fingers clinging to the cage, the pain made her immediately withdraw her hand, yet she twisted within the cage, continuing to look at Zuck, her eyes clearly spelling out ’Save me’.
Suddenly, Zuck felt as if sand had gotten into his eyes. At this moment, his tear glands seemed to have gone numb. He didn’t know what he was feeling, but tears streamed down regardless.
He continued to move forward, and as he did, Elijah Burch in the cage kept shifting, her gaze fixed on him the entire time.
Many noticed this phenomenon, casting curious glances at Zuck as he approached!
But as Zuck was just a minor practitioner at the Foundation Establishment level, everyone glanced at him once and then lost interest!
"Look, everyone, look! The true form of a White-tailed Spirit Fox, a virgin with pure Yin constitution. Look at this skin, look at this lovely face; this is the legendary fox spirit. Take her home for dual cultivation, and you’ll make rapid progress; take her home, and she’ll make you so happy you could die." There was a man in a green robe standing atop the cage, pointing at Burch and commenting on her as though she were a piece of merchandise or a chicken.
"Once in a millennium, she emanates a heavenly fragrance from her body. Look at her mysterious places; do you see it? That’s why, not to mention the mortal realm, even the heavenly courts rarely witness such a sight. Ten million gold, you won’t regret your purchase, nor will you be deceived. Also, this demon has just arrived today; she will be sent to the market tomorrow, starting price still ten million. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, lots of nobles will be there tomorrow, and with princes from all over returning, the price is sure to skyrocket. So, if you want to bid, do it quickly. We’re in urgent need of money, otherwise, wait until tomorrow!"
"Haha, spread her legs for us to see, check the quality!" The bare-chested man cracked another whip, striking the iron cage.
Burch just wept, biting her lip stubbornly.
In this world, demons are mere beasts, toys for humans to play with, to consume, eating not just their pills but their flesh too, and sleeping with them.
They are the most despicable demons, unworthy of any sympathy, unrecognized beasts by humans!
But... they are people, aren’t they, with the only difference being that their tails haven’t evolved? They have human bodies, hearts, the ability to speak, intelligence – sometimes even greater than humans. They have talents, skills, ethics, aesthetics, and morality.
Yet here, humans treat them not as fellow beings but as creatures even lower than animals!
She looked at Zuck, hoping he would buy her, rescue her, or, if he neither bought nor saved her, at least kill her. She truly desired life yet was denied the relief of death!
Zuck pushed his way to the very front, right underneath the cage!
"Kill me, kill me, kill me!" She looked straight at Zuck like a madwoman, repeating ’kill me’ incessantly!
Zuck didn’t respond, but after a deep look, he suddenly took off his robe and threw it with all his might!
With a "snap," the sound of a whip rang out, and his robe was shredded to pieces!
"Esteemed guest, if you buy her, present ten million gold. If you don’t intend to buy, then your kindness is misplaced. This woman has a heart of a viper; you were surely bewitched by her beauty just now. When we caught her, she killed many of our men. Catching her was no easy feat, so your robe cannot go to her. However, we can compensate you for the shredded robe," said the man in the green robe, a practitioner in the Foundation Establishment Stage, smiling amiably, but his eyes held a murderous glint.
"I was indeed bewitched by her, and I am sorry!" Yusuf Zuck squinted his eyes and saluted the green-robed cultivator with his fist before turning around and walking away!
He couldn’t make a move now, firstly because there were many people around and there were definitely experts nearby, and secondly, even if he could save Elijah Burch, he feared they would both end up on the city’s most wanted list. He wouldn’t be able to escape, and neither would Elijah Burch, so he could only come back at night!
Also, he really, really, really wanted to kill, to wipe out all the humans here, although he himself was human, he found that he detested these of his own kind so much.
His sword, since arriving in this world, had not yet been drawn. Higgins King and Leah Erickson had both asked him why he always carried around a Broken Sword without using it when fighting, what was that about?
Yusuf Zuck said it was for looks, because he was a Swordsman.
But in truth, if his sword were to be unsheathed, it would inevitably splatter blood for a hundred steps, sweeping away everything in its path!
Tonight, he would use his sword to wash this street with blood!
He turned and left, never looking back, while Elijah Burch let out a series of low sobs; she was crying and yelling, until Yusuf Zuck was a hundred meters away, when he even heard a scream. It was one of humiliation, one of unwillingness, one of fury.
After that scream, she vomited a large mouthful of blood, and then curled up once again, barely breathing. No matter how the big man whipped the iron cage, she never lifted her head again.
Yusuf Zuck was in no mood to continue watching the selling of monsters here, and when he passed by the three pitiful young girls, he didn’t give them another glance.
Of course, he didn’t leave the street but entered an inn more than three hundred meters away. This place served as a restaurant and also offered accommodation.
Yusuf Zuck took a room facing the street, then opened the window, placed the sword on the table, and silently watched everything in the distance. From now on, he would not allow Elijah Burch to disappear from his sight!
Perhaps Elijah Burch really wasn’t human, nor could she be considered his friend, but she was the leader of the Dragon Group, a national treasure, protecting the country’s leaders and the people. She could be called a hero of the people.
Moreover, it was because of him that Elijah Burch ended up in this place, facing such a plight. If not for him, if not for her assistance in installing the explosives for the Dragon Gate Passage, how could she have come to this place?
"Today, even if it costs me my life, I must rescue you!" Yusuf Zuck silently said to himself.
Time seemed to fly by very fast, and in the blink of an eye, the sky gradually darkened. Neither Elijah Burch nor those three little girls were sold; after all, they were too expensive, easily costing millions or tens of millions of gold. How many could afford such a price?
Yusuf Zuck quietly waited, and continued to wait.
Meanwhile, in the Royal Palace of Higgins King, both Higgins King and Leah Erickson were deeply furrowed with concern because it was already dark and Yusuf Zuck still hadn’t returned. The Prince had ordered him to come back before nightfall, and had told him there were important matters to attend to, but it was already dark, and he was nowhere to be seen.
He really didn’t take the Prince’s orders seriously at all.
