Chapter 479: Chapter 478: Angel on Earth
Ten days later, Yusuf Zuck treated the second patient. In fact, the reason for extending the wait to ten days was that Yusuf Zuck did not want others to think his "Mysterious Techniques" were too cheap.
Moreover, for the sake of long-term planning, a ten-day interval was perfect; he would only see three patients per month, requiring them to book in advance and schedule their time.
Once this rule was established, those patients waiting in line would surely try to find a way to move up their appointments, allowing Yusuf Zuck to raise his price while remaining seated.
Yusuf Zuck was quite ruthless, creating competition among the patients, which allowed him to make a hefty profit.
The second patient was a number two figure in an African mafia, afflicted with AIDS, his body was so decayed that he was skinny as a rail. When Yusuf Zuck saw him, he looked like a monkey!
Wealthy people are extravagant; once they have money, they want to try everything. Thus, it is common for these rich folks to dabble in drugs or homosexual activities, both of which are main transmission routes for AIDS. Yusuf Zuck believed that this mafia subordinate had probably harmed many people.
However, how much harm he had caused others did not concern Yusuf Zuck; what he earned was money.
After the miraculous disappearance of the virus, the patient paid one hundred and ten million US Dollars.
Yusuf Zuck deposited ten million US Dollars into the account in Juarez, to be divided among those in charge.
The third patient was a newspaper magnate named Bobby, also called Old Bobby, who had cancer, lung cancer.
Three days after curing Old Bobby in the same manner, which was also the thirty-third day after Yusuf Zuck’s arrival in Los Angeles, a local newspaper finally carried news about him.
It was one of Old Bobby’s newspapers, with a very large circulation worldwide. Surprisingly, Old Bobby chose to cover the story on the front page in a lengthy report, themed "An Angel on Earth."
That’s right, "An Angel on Earth."
Old Bobby narrated the course of his illness and the process of his treatment in a narrative style before mentioning the word "angel."
Without any exaggeration, he simply recounted the miraculous angel on earth who had, in a miraculous way, cured him – a patient on the brink of death!
And this report set off a sensation across the world. Many media outlets followed with their own reports.
Of course, the vast majority were critical, calling it a groundless story, utterly implausible, merely a common deception aimed at grabbing the public’s attention.
In fact, believers were very few and far between, with the vast majority of people holding skeptical or doubtful views.
Many sought to interview Old Bobby, but he had left the United States and no one knew his whereabouts. If Old Bobby could not be found, how could they possibly find the "Angel" healer?
Of course, the U.S. officials also took notice of this matter, but since it was just one man’s word, they did not give it much attention.
Yusuf Zuck had not anticipated that Old Bobby would publicize his story in the newspaper. Perhaps Old Bobby was grateful, but evidently, his report had thrust Yusuf Zuck into the limelight.
It was both good and bad. After Maurice Singleton strengthened the security at the estate, he and Yusuf Zuck went to the city overnight and stayed at the two-star hotel they had bought.
The estate could no longer be stayed at for the short term, and beefing up its security was intended to divert attention elsewhere, a ploy reminiscent of a rabbit having multiple burrows.
It wasn’t that they were afraid of trouble; Yusuf Zuck simply did not want to be exposed and thrust into the public eye.
Of course, once the report came out, the number of patients wanting treatment surged, all referred by acquaintances. There were two referrals from Old Bobby, three from Abudula, and one from that mafia number two.
Six people, all booked for appointments.
After getting to know the identities of the six people, Yusuf Zuck did not decline; the consultation fee remained at one billion, but the ranking would be determined by who offered the highest bid.
"Maurice, after we treat these six patients, let’s not take any more requests for a short period," Yusuf Zuck sat in the hotel room, having just been handed a list by Maurice Singleton. It contained the bids and the order of the six clients.
The original consultation fee was one billion, but due to the ranking issue, those with terminal illnesses started to engage in a bidding frenzy. The person who ended up first in line had increased the bid to thirteen billion US Dollars, and the second place was also close to ten billion.
This was something Yusuf Zuck had not anticipated. In fact, he couldn’t fathom that there were so many wealthy people in the world who could just throw out over ten billion dollars like that!
He felt that he could not continue like this any longer; if he did, things could get out of hand.
"Why though? We’re making so much money; we’ve earned over sixty billion US Dollars with just nine patients." Maurice Singleton had been going crazy these past few days; he never imagined that the quickest way to make money in the world was by treating people who were close to death.
If they continued at this pace, it wouldn’t take them a year to surpass all the world’s richest people!
"Scarcity creates value!" Yusuf Zuck shook his head, "Our initial pricing was too low, so after we’ve treated these six people, we need to disappear for a while. I believe that after hearing about us from these six patients, many more will come looking for treatment. When they can’t find me, they will naturally start to spread word and name their price. By then, we can choose when and whom to treat at our discretion!"
"Also, although Old Bobby’s report is out, not many believe it. After we’ve treated these six, we might get targeted by U.S. officials. I’m not ready for people to probe into my affairs, so once we’ve treated these six patients, you guys should immediately head back to Mexico."
"What about you?" asked Maurice Singleton.
"Of course, I’ll stay in the United States. I’m going to have fun with Luciano and our friends, just not treating any patients for a short while!"
"Alright, I’ll follow the boss’s orders, but it’s a pity to miss out on making money!" sighed Maurice Singleton with regret.
Yusuf Zuck shook his head, "Even if we continue to treat patients in the future, we have to do it secretly. We’ll agree on a location with the other party, and we can’t be in a fixed place!"
"Alright, get those six patients over here as soon as possible. No need for two months; one patient a day. Once we’re done, we’ll pull a vanishing act," Yusuf Zuck stated with a wave of his hand.
"Yes," Maurice Singleton replied, exiting respectfully.
...
Meanwhile, just as Yusuf Zuck was preparing to bow out, official and private organizations began to investigate the authenticity of Old Bobby’s report.
After releasing his story, Old Bobby had gone on vacation to Hawaii, and besides a few friends and family, no one else knew of his whereabouts.
However, he was still found.
Three groups tracked down Old Bobby. The first was the UK’s MI6, the second, a Japanese intelligence agency, and the last a mysterious organization codenamed ’Heaven.’
These three groups cornered Old Bobby in his Hawaiian hotel room and proceeded to examine his body, even going so far as to draw his blood.
