Chapter 449: Chapter 448: Who Is It?

Yusuf Zuck felt as if the heavens were playing a colossal joke on him, a huge one. After surreptitiously eavesdropping on Russ Trujillo’s conversation, he completely lost his composure. No wonder he hadn’t found any of Ruth Wilcox’s belongings at the crash site—it turned out she hadn’t boarded the plane?

If she hadn’t been on the plane, then she hadn’t been blown to bits.

"Damn it." Yusuf cursed under his breath and immediately took out his cellphone to power it back on.

His hands were trembling, shaking with excitement. Ruth Wilcox might actually be alive, she wasn’t dead, she wasn’t dead!

Yusuf wanted to laugh, wanted to burst into crazed laughter. The joke was too much to bear—she hadn’t boarded the plane, the Meskill family hadn’t killed her.

The cellphone booted up quickly, and then Yusuf immediately dialed Ruth Wilcox’s number.

The phone prompted that it was turned off.

"Turned off? Then Mia!" Yusuf cut the call short and dialed Mia’s number.

The call went through, the phone connected directly, and Yusuf’s heart leaped to his throat.

"Hello? Thank heavens, you’ve finally decided to call." Mia had been aware of many things that had happened in this period, knowing that Yusuf had almost been blown up. Later, she found out from Marlon Shepherd that Yusuf hadn’t died because, after the plane crash, Yusuf had called Marlon Shepherd to let others know he was safe. It was just that Yusuf’s cellphone had been unreachable, that’s all.

"Mia, where’s Ruth?" Yusuf asked anxiously.

"Isn’t she with you?" Hearing Yusuf, Mia instantly became puzzled.

"What?" Yusuf was stunned. Ruth Wilcox hadn’t boarded the plane, her phone was off, and she hadn’t spoken to Mia?

"When was the last time you spoke with her?" Yusuf pressed, urgency in his voice.

"The evening of the second day of the lunar new year, the night before you guys boarded, and we haven’t been in touch since then. What’s going on? What happened to Ruth? Where are you?" Mia was now anxious too, realizing that Ruth Wilcox, who had disappeared along with Yusuf, wasn’t with him?

"Impossible, I’ll call you back," Yusuf said, overwhelmed with doubts. Ruth Wilcox hadn’t boarded the plane, but how come she hadn’t contacted Mia again? Could something else have happened?

He didn’t wait for Mia to respond before he hung up. He immediately dialed Marlon Shepherd’s number; at this point, he no longer cared if he might reveal his location.

"Yusuf, you’ve finally called me." As soon as the call connected, Marlon Shepherd let out a deep sigh of relief.

"Listen to me, don’t mention to anyone that I’ve called you. If anyone asks, you say you don’t know," Yusuf said.

"What happened?" Marlon Shepherd asked nervously.

"Lots of people want me dead, and as far as many are concerned, I’m already dead. So a dead man wouldn’t be calling you, would he? Tell me, has Ruth Wilcox contacted you? Did she show up for work at the hotel?" Yusuf asked hurriedly.

"No, isn’t Ms. Wilcox with you?" Marlon Shepherd said oddly.

Hearing Marlon Shepherd’s response, Yusuf’s heart sank. He was certain that even if Ruth Wilcox hadn’t died, something else must have happened to her that prevented her from turning on her phone or returning to the hotel.

"Alright, that’s all for now. Remember what I’ve said, if anyone asks about me, you say you don’t know. Take full responsibility for the company matters; I’ll come back when it’s time."

"What about Miles O’Brien and the others? What should I say if they ask?" Marlon Shepherd pressed.

"I’ll talk to them. By ’others,’ I mean people outside our group," Yusuf said, knowing he had to reassure his closest associates of his well-being; otherwise, his team would fall apart.

He then hung up once again and turned off his cellphone, forcing himself to calm down.

In a distant villa, Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien emerged, both looking burdened with heavy thoughts.

"Whoosh," just as Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien were opening the car door and starting the engine, Yusuf Zuck also took a step forward and directly slid into the back seat.

"Bang," when the back door was opened and then closed, Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien noticed at the same time, and they were also astounded.

"It’s me!" Yusuf Zuck had appeared, sitting right behind them!

"Ahh..."

"Ugh..."

Seeing Yusuf Zuck, the couple was instantly bewildered. Devin King had told them that he had killed Yusuf Zuck, and Yusuf Zuck’s Flying Sword was even lying on Devin King’s desk, so they were certain Yusuf Zuck was dead. Devin King wouldn’t joke about such a matter, and given his power, killing Yusuf Zuck wasn’t a difficult task for him.

However, at this moment, their brother-in-law appeared alive and well before them? Had they just seen a ghost?

"Drive, keep it down. I have some questions for you." Yusuf Zuck also took a risk by showing up because he knew that the only people who could help him were Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien.

"Brother-in-law, don’t scare people like that. You’re not dead?" Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien had their hair stand on end at that very moment; it was really terrifying.

"Devin King couldn’t kill me," Yusuf Zuck chuckled coldly.

"But he said that he blasted your heart," Felicity O’Brien said oddly.

"Does a blown heart have to result in death?" Yusuf Zuck explained briefly, then immediately asked, "Do you two know where Ruth Wilcox is?"

"We don’t know." Both of them shook their heads simultaneously; they truly had no idea.

"Then help me with something!" Yusuf Zuck said in a stern voice. "I need all the surveillance footage from Sanya airport on the third day of the new year. You can manage that, right?"

"The footage, I have it," Russ Trujillo took a deep breath, "You didn’t board the flight, and neither did Ruth Wilcox. I saw on the footage that she paused for several dozen seconds when about to board, then turned around and left. She sat alone in the terminal for about ten minutes, when a woman struck up a conversation with her; they seemed to know each other, and the woman was a foreigner. Then the two of them left together. After that, there were no more images of her."

"A foreign woman? What did she look like?" Yusuf Zuck clenched his fists, finally sure that Ruth Wilcox hadn’t died. He was vaguely excited; as long as she was alive, everything was okay.

"She’s in her twenties, about the same age as she is. We’ve checked the woman’s information, she should not be a local, but a foreign Chinese. We haven’t been able to find any specific information about her."

"A foreign Chinese?" Yusuf Zuck narrowed his eyes, then abruptly opened them wide. "Okay, I got it. Stop the car."

"Brother-in-law, you... you... what’s all this about?" Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien both turned to look at Yusuf Zuck.

"I’m indeed already dead, and you must keep this secret for me, or rather, you could say I’m now a ghost. Also, don’t tell Devin King about my appearance. Consider it a favor to me as well as to Louise Garrett. The reason I sought you out is that you are my family. I don’t want to be betrayed by my own people."

"Brother-in-law, rest assured, we won’t speak of it. The group’s orders have come down; we’re to go to Africa, and we can’t return for two years, so we don’t know anything," Felicity O’Brien said, rarely using the term ’brother-in-law,’ and it seemed she was also somewhat indignant.

"Is it because I got into trouble?" Yusuf Zuck raised his eyebrows.

"Something like that," Felicity nodded.

"Okay then, brother-in-law, rest assured. Not to mention we’re relatives, but you are also the one chosen by my family’s old master, so I won’t betray you. Don’t worry about us; going to Africa isn’t bad either. But be careful. To tell you the truth, when Felicity and I heard that you were killed by Devin King, I almost got into a fight with him."

"There’s one more thing I need to tell you; the Meskill Family is just the beginning. I’m afraid the other three clans may follow, so try not to get too involved with them," Russ Trujillo cautioned.

"Got it, thanks. But could you send me a photo of the woman who left with Ruth Wilcox to my phone later?" Yusuf Zuck suddenly got inspired.

"Sure, I’ll get on it when I get back," Russ Trujillo agreed promptly.
