Chapter 409: Chapter 408: No One Can Save Him
"Old Master, I’m here." A middle-aged man in his fifties, with a slightly bald head, arrived at the Meskill patriarch’s home. He was dressed in an ordinary down jacket and wore a cap, looking no different from an average Joe.
However, his true identity was that of the leader of a special operations group, a position of very high rank.
He was Jace Berger, a protege of the Meskill family, planted by them in the world of officialdom.
"Old Master, please accept my condolences," Jace Berger said soberly, without waiting for the Meskill patriarch to speak. As the leader of the special operations group, he had received the news of Lian Meskill’s death as soon as it had happened.
"Then, tell me, who is Yusuf Zuck?" the Meskill patriarch asked with a piercing gaze.
"Yes," Jace Berger immediately snapped to attention and replied, "Yusuf Zuck, originally from Shandong Yanggu, possesses the ability to control objects with telekinesis and has somehow obtained an extremely sharp Short Sword. Now, he is capable of using the Flying Sword technique to kill. One of our team leaders previously attempted to recruit him; he’s an external member of our group. But rest assured, Old Master, his contract has just been terminated."
"Moreover, this man is very dangerous. Our operations group might not have enough manpower; several are not in the capital as they are out on assignments."
"I’m aware of that. Even Mortimer Lopez was killed by him; quite formidable indeed!" The Meskill patriarch let out a cold laugh.
"Since ancient times, heroes have broken the law with their martial prowess; once free from shackles and endowed with strength, they try to test the law with their bodies. Although such a person may be extraordinary, he has already become uncontrollable. You go and make arrangements, start with the normal legal procedures. We, the Meskills, must not act like him and break the law. My family has been based in Huaxia, and we are law-abiding citizens!"
"Yes." After answering, Jace Berger hurriedly left, understanding the patriarch’s intent. They were to test the waters with normal legal means first to see if Yusuf Zuck would dare to resist. If he did resist, he would not just be hostile to the Meskill family, one of the four major clans, but to the nation itself. Thus, the patriarch’s strategy was shrewd, avoiding difficulties for related parties while distancing the family from the situation.
After Jace Berger left, the Meskill patriarch nodded to the butler and said, "Inform them to prepare. We’ll see how the situation develops. If there is no resistance, let Jace Berger turn it into an ironclad case. If there is resistance, seize the opportunity to execute him!"
"Yes." The butler promptly acknowledged. The Meskill family’s true strengths were not as simple as they seemed on the surface. The presence of a Truth-Seeking Expert among Lian Meskill’s retinue alone signified that the Meskill family had its own team of experts.
How could one of the old, reputable four major clans lack protectors for the family?
The Meskill patriarch had set a trap, ready for Yusuf Zuck to fall into it, but no matter how he jumped, the outcome would be death.
The Meskill family was known for protecting their own. With a grandson killed, how could the Meskill family not seek revenge?
...
Meanwhile, Russ Trujillo, who was at home asleep, received a phone call from Devin King, the deputy leader of the Dragon Group.
"Let Yusuf Zuck run. This time, no one can save him," Devin King sighed. He had implored Russ Trujillo to warn Yusuf Zuck not to be rash, but Yusuf Zuck had still gone ahead and killed Lian Meskill. Thus, nobody could protect him now.
"What? He... he killed Lian Meskill?" Russ Trujillo instantly leapt from his bed.
"What did you think? If he doesn’t run now, it will be too late. But what a pity," Devin King let out a sigh before hanging up the phone.
Felicity O’Brien also sat up in bed, having heard the deputy leader’s words.
"This is bad, really bad. Our brother-in-law, why can’t he keep his cool? The Meskills... damn, that little monster from the Meskill family will probably take action himself, right? Quick, give me the phone." Russ Trujillo, knowing many insider secrets, was aware that the Meskill family was full of experts. There were Meskill family members even within the Dragon Group, and as one of the four major clans with a long heritage, they had many more retainers and worshippers. Slaying Lian Meskill was like poking a hornet’s nest; each hornet could sting Yusuf Zuck to death with a single prick.
Once Yusuf Zuck’s phone call went through and he picked up, Russ Trujillo immediately said, "Brother-in-law, run. Run as far as you can. Don’t contact anyone, and don’t turn on your phone again. Louise Garrett and your family here have me and Felicity; we’ll ensure their safety. They won’t be in any danger as long as you’re gone. No one will target them if you run!"
"Run? Run from what? I don’t understand what you’re saying," Yusuf Zuck pretended to be confused.
"Lian Meskill is dead, and it wasn’t you who did it? What are you pretending to be confused about?" Russ Trujillo exclaimed loudly.
"Evidence, you need evidence, right? You can’t just pin someone’s death on me like that!" Yusuf Zuck replied, utterly baffled.
"If they want evidence, they can fabricate a ton of it, and they don’t even need any evidence. Brother-in-law, do you know? As far as I’m aware, there are at least four Truth-Seeking Experts in the Meskill family, not to mention a little Meskill monster, whom hardly anyone among his peers can match. I admit you’re pretty tough, but remember, there always stronger people out there, and you’re not the strongest," he said.
"If you’re not going to run, then just wait for death," Russ urged him urgently.
"’Only four or more?’" Yusuf Zuck suddenly burst into laughter. "In my memory, it seems I’ve already killed four Truth-Insight practitioners. Do you think I could take another four?"
"That’s not what I mean," Russ said with a mix of laughter and tears: "The ones you killed were all trash, not even as good as me. You might not understand the situation. Although the Meskill family isn’t in the officialdom, the higher-ups all pay respects to the Meskills. The Meskill family is a colossal entity; it’s a true heritage clan, not just a simple inner-boxing style. For all we know, there might be Fasting practitioners in their clan."
"The Meskill family is mysterious, powerful, and rich, and they’ve nurtured many influential figures who hold sway in various places. Let me put it this way, in the capital, in the military, in the provinces, there are people brought up by their clan, it’s a Dante Stewart clan!"
"Brother-in-law..." At this moment, Felicity O’Brien suddenly snatched the phone away: "Although I’m not very fond of you, you really shouldn’t be arrogant. Listen to what Russ says and run, hide yourself!"
"I got it, I have a friend’s wedding tomorrow, we’ll talk after the wedding," Yusuf Zuck ended the call directly.
Russ Trujillo and Felicity O’Brien were a bit dumbfounded, was Yusuf Zuck such a fool that he still wanted to attend a wedding? Didn’t he know the meaning of the word ’dead’?
"What should we do?" Felicity pushed Russ slightly and asked.
"What can we do? Your brother-in-law is more stubborn than a mule; it’s over," Russ said with a bitter face.
"How about this... you try contacting your great-grandfather? Maybe he can help!" Felicity suggested.
"My Uncle Neal isn’t even picking up his phone, but I’ll try, I’ll try," Russ said as he immediately began searching for his Uncle Neal Trujillo’s number, his uncle who was always by the great-grandfather’s side.
As luck would have it, the call connected.
"It’s connected, it’s connected," Russ said with excitement.
"Is that Russ? What is it?" After the phone rang thrice, Neal Trujillo picked up the call.
"Uncle Neal, it’s Russ. Are you with the great-grandfather? Can you let him take the phone?" Russ asked quietly.
"We’re together; what does the great-grandfather need?" Neal Trujillo asked in return.
"It’s about Yusuf Zuck, he’s offended the Meskill family..." Russ immediately recounted the incident of Yusuf Zuck killing Lian Meskill.
"The great-grandfather knows, but we’re out of town. He said not to worry about him; this is his ordeal. If he can overcome it, that’s his fate; if not, that too is his fate. All things are predestined, so you shouldn’t get involved either!"
"Uh... so the great-grandfather doesn’t care if he lives or dies?" Russ said with a wry smile.
"I’ve said it already, this is his fate. Whether he can overcome it, that’s up to him. The great-grandfather won’t intervene in these matters. That’s it then," Neal Trujillo said, and then the call ended.
"It’s all over, no one in heaven or on earth can save your flirtatious brother-in-law now," Russ sighed deeply.
