Chapter 391 - 390: Shot
Chapter 391: Chapter 390: Shot
Yusuf Zuck had a perplexed look on his face. When he had left the villa area earlier, he hadn’t noticed any cars following him. It wasn’t until he was on the highway that he realized the two cars behind him seemed to be tailing him.
After all, he wasn’t a professional when it came to tracking or counter-tracking, so he realized it a bit late.
He slowed down his car, wanting to see which bastard was playing games with him.
However, the moment he reduced his speed, the Range Rover tailgating him suddenly accelerated and passed him in an instant.
Yusuf Zuck sent out his telekinesis to probe, finding only two people in the car—both of them looking like no good.
The Range Rover had overtaken him and then moved into his lane, slowing down as if to force him to do the same.
Yusuf Zuck did indeed slow down; he was actually inclined to pull over to the side and have a physical confrontation with these people.
"Whoo—" As the Range Rover and his pickup truck both slowed down simultaneously, the second car that had been following from a distance also rapidly sped up.
This second vehicle was also a pickup, but it was one of those domestically produced ones with pitch-black windows so dark that the people inside could not be seen.
As this pickup swiftly approached Yusuf Zuck’s vehicle, about to overtake it, his telekinesis also reached inside.
But... just as his telekinesis touched the truck, he was shocked to the point of nearly driving his vehicle into a ditch.
Because... inside that pickup, two people were holding submachine guns with bullets already chambered!
"Damn it!" Yusuf Zuck’s hair stood on end. He might have had some abilities, but bullets would kill him just the same.
"Whoo—" The vehicle ahead was blocking his speed, and the pickup finally pulled up alongside him. Then the dark windows on the right side lowered, and two people leaned out, aiming their guns at Yusuf Zuck!
"Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat—" The guns fired, Yusuf Zuck slammed on the brakes, and tried to escape the truck by space-jumping, but his seatbelt was still fastened, preventing him from moving, and at that moment, a burst of bullets hit his front hood.
If he had slowed down even a split second later, those bursts of bullets would have been aiming at his driver’s seat. The other vehicle maintained a steady speed while he had hit the brakes, causing the shots to go astray.
Nevertheless, the assailants didn’t seem to intend to let him go, as they actually started to reverse on the highway.
Yusuf Zuck, with no time to think, also harshly reversed. The assailants’ guns fired again, this time spraying bullets in a burst.
"Pup-pup-pup—" Yusuf Zuck felt bullets hit his body, causing his whole body to jerk in pain. At that point, his car skewed and crashed over the guardrail, directly into the big ditch at the side of the highway.
"Bang—" The vehicle was smoking, the windows shattered, the hood deformed, and the broken glass had cut his face.
The Range Rover and the pickup truck did not stop but instead drove away frantically.
Yusuf Zuck unbuckled his seatbelt and then rolled out of the car.
He had to admit, this American-made car had withstood the crash well; it hadn’t completely deformed.
However, the bodywork was pierced through, a bullet had penetrated his left thigh, and another had grazed the back of his neck, leaving a red mark from which blood incessantly oozed. Another bullet had hit his left arm, almost shattering the bone and burying deep.
Fortunately, the shots were fired from the side. If he had been shot from the front, Yusuf Zuck might have been dead beyond dead.
The assailants’ guns were likely AK47s or something similar, with heavy firepower, large lethality, and large bullets.
Yusuf Zuck sat down and didn’t immediately call the police. Instead, he drew his Short Sword, tore some strips of cloth to staunch the bleeding quickly—excessive blood loss could be fatal—and began to administer first aid. All the while, he cursed incessantly. He had many abilities, but in that moment just before, everything had happened too fast. The assailants’ speed, the speed of the bullets—he didn’t even have a chance to jump out of the car. Besides, the assailants fled immediately after taking their cold shots, leaving him with a sense of powerlessness, as if there was nowhere to exert his strength.
Someone on the road had called the police, and by the time Yusuf Zuck was attempting to stop his own bleeding, the highway patrol nearby had already arrived.
However, when the highway patrol saw Yusuf Zuck’s car full of bullet holes and him covered in blood, they were also shocked.
"Isn’t this very close to the capital? And yet, a gun battle has occurred? Those culprits must have huge guts."
Feeling the severity of the situation, after a brief inquiry, the patrol quickly reported to the traffic management center that there were two armed criminals on the highway.
Yusuf Zuck was lifted onto the police car, which then turned around and headed back toward the capital. The police were quite good, prioritizing saving lives and continuously urging Yusuf to hang in there and not to fall asleep.
Yusuf Zuck wasn’t feeling sleepy; the gunshot wounds hadn’t hit any vital parts, just shattered bones. He couldn’t move his leg or one of his arms.
Of course, he understood that the police probably wouldn’t catch those armed bandits. If they dared to shoot in public, they probably had a plan for a safe evacuation.
The police car, with sirens blaring, rushed him to a hospital within the fifth ring and rolled him into the surgery room.
The anesthetic mask was placed over his nose, and the anesthetist instructed him to take deep breaths. He complied and took three deep breaths.
After the three breaths, the mask on his mouth and nose was removed and replaced with an oxygen breathing mask.
The anesthetist started to press on his body and asked if he felt anything.
Yusuf Zuck did feel something; the anesthetist’s hands were warm, the hands of a woman, but he didn’t feel the slightest effect from the anesthesia.
Yusuf Zuck remembered that after being hit by the anesthetic from the Japanese last time, he had inhaled a great amount, but woke up just a few hours later. So, the three breaths he had just taken probably wouldn’t have much effect.
"I don’t feel anything," Yusuf Zuck lied, hoping the doctor would quickly remove the bullet.
The chief surgeon began the operation, first extracting the bullet, then reconnecting nerves, fixing shattered bones, and so on.
Yusuf Zuck kept his eyes closed the entire time. He didn’t even groan, but large beads of sweat kept rolling down. He was in pain, undergoing surgery without any anesthesia, how could he not be in pain?
The surgery lasted over two hours before it finally ended, and he was then wheeled out of the operating room.
"Yusuf, Yusuf..." Upon seeing Yusuf being wheeled out, a crowd of people suddenly swarmed around in the hallway. Miles O’Brien and others had come because the police had used his phone to call a few frequently dialed numbers, so family members had arrived.
Not only had Miles O’Brien and the others come, but Sophia had also rushed over, making the area outside the surgery room impassable.
"I’m fine. Everyone should go about their business. Oh, right, Samuel, take that antique knife I had on me and keep it safe," Yusuf Zuck signaled to Samuel Ross with his eyes. His Short Sword had been confiscated by the police. On the police car, they had asked him why he had a Short Sword and Yusuf’s answer was that it was an antique he had collected, claiming he owned an antique shop and that the sword was valuable.
Understanding the situation, Samuel immediately went to ask the police for Yusuf’s personal belongings.
Everest Zuck had also arrived and was communicating with the police.
Yusuf was rolled into the ward, with Miles O’Brien not leaving, nor did Paisley Kirk and Raelyn Petty. In fact, Samuel and the others also didn’t leave; they all hunkered down in the hallway.
Yusuf was their boss, their pillar. If anything happened to Yusuf, then this group would be scattered.
