Chapter 342: Chapter 342: The Origin of the Short Sword
Yusuf Zuck couldn’t leave, firstly because private departures were not allowed here, and secondly because he must request the presence of Mrs. Miao.
Of course, there was another reason, and that was, he knew he couldn’t avoid it!
Yes, having encountered this situation, even if he left, even if he hid back in the Capital, could Tyler Nash let him go? He decided to stay and see what attitude Antonio Benson from the Jade Artifacts Gate would show. If Antonio Benson really intended to shield his people and confront him, then he would have to gather more information.
The saying "the early bird catches the worm, the latecomer suffers the loss" was a lesson he had already learned, and he wouldn’t make the same mistake a second time.
Besides, he wasn’t necessarily afraid of the Jade Artifacts Gate. After all, he could become Invisible and use the Flying Sword, with a flawless radius of forty-five meters. So if he decided to engage in assassination, Antonio Benson might not be able to withstand it.
While Everest Zuck was sweating bullets in anxiety, Yusuf Zuck and Rachel Fournier were whispering to each other, another familiar face appeared, much to Everest Zuck’s excitement.
Monk Isaiah Fowler arrived.
That’s right, Isaiah Fowler was also a Grandmaster, so it was normal for him to attend such an exchange meeting.
Everest Zuck approached him enthusiastically, but Isaiah Fowler was indifferent and barely greeted him, whether it was Everest Zuck or Yusuf Zuck, before he went off to discuss martial arts with pleasure with others of his level.
In Isaiah Fowler’s eyes, Everest Zuck was merely a junior, and although Yusuf Zuck had Telekinesis, he did not take it seriously. Firstly, Yusuf Zuck’s Telekinesis was useless without strength; it was only good for peeping at women bathing. Thus, in Isaiah Fowler’s eyes, Yusuf Zuck having Telekinesis was a waste of talent.
Therefore, in his eyes, Yusuf Zuck was not someone on his level, not someone who deserved to sit at the same table with him.
Soon, Yusuf Zuck noticed that Isaiah Fowler and Antonio Benson were very familiar with each other, sharing laughs. They also seemed quite close to River Berger, joking and laughing with him as well.
"Great−" Yusuf Zuck thought. Isaiah Fowler was a flirtatious monk, so whether it was Antonio Benson or River Berger, they all had past grudges with him.
People automatically gathered in the central area of the mountaintop. Many took out all sorts of bottles and jars or books and tomes, and some even brought out herbs or antique Jade Artifacts.
After having dry food for breakfast, many people began to set up stalls at the mountaintop.
The exchange meeting was also a trading fair, where some people brought items they didn’t need to sell or exchange them for something useful.
For instance, rare herbs that were of no use to oneself could be sold, as others might need them.
Secret manuals and the like were also sold, as getting money for them was beneficial.
Not all practitioners of internal boxing were landowner tycoons; there were also ascetic individuals who needed to eat and make a living, and so there were poor people among them as well.
Yusuf Zuck and Everest Zuck were eating the dry food provided by Rachel Fournier. They had no choice; although they had wine and meat, those were in the tents outside.
Rachel Fournier was a good woman who hit it off with Yusuf Zuck. She liked his character, and Yusuf Zuck also appreciated her enthusiasm and sense of justice in the martial arts community.
Of course, their hitting it off did not imply romantic feelings, but a mutual admiration.
"Rachel, if you have things to do, go ahead and don’t worry about us. We owe you our thanks for being able to come here. If you ever need anything in the future, Rachel, just one call and I’ll be there," Yusuf Zuck didn’t rush to join the crowd in the central area but instead sat alone in the corner, deep in thought for over ten minutes. When he looked up after those minutes, he was surprised to see that Rachel Fournier was still staring at the front of his chest, seemingly lost in reflection as well. As for Everest Zuck, he had run off—probably to the stalls to look for some good finds.
"Hehe, why are you trying to send me away?" Rachel Fournier laughed.
"I have enemies, and it’s not convenient for you to be with me. I don’t want to drag you into it," Yusuf answered seriously.
"They can’t do anything to me. Besides, whether it’s River Berger or Antiono Benson, those two are opportunists and we share a mutual enmity, so naturally, I’m on your side."
"And, I’m actually very curious about you. First, your personal ability—you’re not a practitioner of the internal martial arts, not even a beginner, yet you managed to pass three challenges, which is something millions of ordinary people cannot achieve. And then there’s... your sword!" She pointed at the hilt of the Short Sword peeking out from Yusuf’s embrace and continued, "Though I haven’t seen what this sword looks like, it seems familiar. I’ve seen it before on a... well, an elderly senior. When my master saw that senior, he would kneel in homage. The senior was very old—just a little while since I last saw him when I was very young."
"So can you tell me, who gave you that sword?" Rachel asked with curiosity.
"The person who gave me this sword, actually, I don’t know him, but when he gifted me this sword, he claimed to be Neal Trujillo, delivering it on behalf of his grandfather!" Yusuf hadn’t forgotten the mysterious man who had given him the Short Sword after he had dealt with Tripp Greer, nor had he forgotten his name.
As for the mysterious man and his grandfather, they both remained an enigma to him. He, too, was eager to find out who they were and what they did.
"Neal Trujillo?" Rachel murmured softly, her face breaking into boundless joy, "Really, he gave it to you? Did you meet with the elder Neal? Do you know where he is?"
"You know Neal Trujillo?" Yusuf was equally astonished.
"Yes, yes, I used to say that this sword resembled the one the elder always carried. Quick, tell me, where are they?"
"I encountered Neal Trujillo in Hubei and didn’t meet the elder Neal. But Neal Trujillo must be in his forties or fifties by now, right? Wouldn’t his grandfather be over a hundred years old?"
"The elder Neal more than a hundred years old?" Rachel shook her head and smiled wryly, "When my master met elder Neal, he had to kneel and pay respects, and I was only twelve years old at the time. Back then, elder Neal could very well have been in his sixties; now, another ten-plus has passed."
"But why would elder Neal give you his personal sword? Why?"
"I don’t know why either. When Neal Trujillo gave me this sword, he just said his grandfather believed this sword suited me, so he gifted it to me. Who are elder Neal and Neal Trujillo? What do they do? Or which sect are they from?"
"Shh—keep your voice down, elder Neal is not one of us in this path!" Rachel said softly, glancing around.
"Is he from the villainous and crooked path?" Yusuf was shocked.
"What villainous and crooked path?" Rachel glared at him, "Elder Neal is... never mind, there’s no point talking about it here. These people here aren’t worthy of knowing him. He doesn’t belong to our circle; he is from a different one!"
"There’s another circle?" Yusuf was surprised. This was already a circle of eccentrics; could there be another circle even more eccentric than this?
"Maybe there is, I don’t know, but elder Neal is truly a venerable sage. The people here, at best, are just superficially prestigious!"
"Hehe." At this point, Rachel again started laughing, speaking softly, "If elder Neal gave you his sword, then you’re under his protection. So what about Antiono Cautious or River Berger? In comparison, what are they?"
"Don’t worry, from now on, I’ve got your back. Anyone who touches you is going through me."
