Chapter 326: Confession
Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Confession
"Mr. Zuck, hello, the information I found indicates that the person behind Director Vance’s attack is a group of Japanese!" Chicken Brother suddenly said, bowing and nodding.
"Japanese? How is that possible?" Yusuf Zuck was shocked. When had he or Ember Vance ever offended the Japanese to the point of bringing about fatal disaster?
"Mr. Zuck, let me explain. Chicken Brother, please step outside." Lucy Clayton took a deep breath and said, "Mr. Zuck, do you remember Bud Trujillo, the younger one?"
"Bud Trujillo?" Hearing these two words made Yusuf Zuck’s heart skip a beat. There was bad blood between Bud Trujillo, himself, and Ember Vance. Initially, Bud Trujillo had been dealt with harshly by Miss Vance, and eventually, even his family sent him out of the country.
"Is it related to him?" Yusuf Zuck took a deep breath and asked.
"It is. He returned from Japan a few days ago, bringing back some people with him. It was those people who made a move on Director Vance. Chicken Brother found out because Bud Trujillo took those Japanese to the nightclub to play with the ladies, and as it happened, those ladies were under Chicken Brother’s management. Most coincidentally, one of the ladies spoke Japanese, as she was a student at the School of Foreign Languages. Thus, she overheard their conversation and told Chicken Brother!"
"Bud Trujillo!" Yusuf Zuck’s cheeks twitched with anger. Bud Trujillo had actually sent Japanese to assassinate Ember Vance?
"Where is he?" Yusuf Zuck asked in a heavy voice.
"We’re one step late. I dispatched people to look for Bud Trujillo immediately after I got the message, and I contacted him personally, but he returned to Japan the day after Director Vance’s incident. However, many of the Japanese he brought with him remained in the country, and now they are all gathered at a Japanese restaurant."
"Also, I inquired among my friends, and it seems that Bud Trujillo visited the Agriculture and Education Departments this time, apparently to get some procedures approved, and he succeeded!"
"Procedures? Agriculture and Education Departments?" Yusuf Zuck squinted: "Keep investigating, find out exactly what he’s up to. Also, where’s this restaurant?"
"I’ll take you there tonight. You’re too angry right now; if we go now and kill someone, it could cause trouble. Tonight, I’ll take you there, and we will kidnap them all, then throw them in the lake to feed the fish. That way, we can create the illusion of their disappearance rather than a direct death and avoid causing an international incident."
"I’m starting to like you!" Yusuf Zuck said, looking at her.
"Heh, I’m flying to Japan tomorrow!" Lucy Clayton chuckled: "I’ll personally bring Bud Trujillo back for you."
"There’s no need for that." Yusuf Zuck shook his head: "This isn’t so simple. Bud Trujillo must die, the Japanese must die. I will go to Japan myself!" Yusuf Zuck was filled with a killing intent. The Japanese had the audacity to come to Huaxia and assassinate a police station chief; they were audacious to the extreme.
He had made up his mind: no matter who was involved, he would wipe them out, leaving none behind!
"Then I’ll go set things up for you. I’ve already bought the ticket!" Lucy Clayton said with a light smile.
"Suit yourself, but thanks. I’ll wait for you downstairs at the hospital at eight tonight!" Yusuf Zuck thanked Lucy Clayton with a fist salute, then turned and left.
After watching Yusuf Zuck leave the hospital room, Lucy Clayton took out her phone and called Otis Quinn.
Otis Quinn was her trusted confidant, extremely loyal to her, and they had done many bad and big things together.
Once the call connected, Lucy Clayton said, "Prepare the grinder at the villa, make some more holes in the ice on the lake, and don’t bring too many people tonight, just the usual few. Also, the flight is at four in the morning, you’ll fly to Tokyo with me!"
"Got it, Brother Dao," Otis Quinn replied over the phone.
Lucy Clayton hung up the phone, then leaned back on the bed and started smoking. This time, she had to do it beautifully; as long as she brought Bud Trujillo back, her debts and grudges with Yusuf Zuck would be wiped clean, at least Yusuf Zuck would no longer be out for her blood.
Yusuf Zuck also contacted Everest Zuck, instructing him to book a flight to Guizhou Miao Village the next morning. He was racing against time now; Ember Vance might not last much longer, so as long as there was hope, he would go all-out.
At noon, Yusuf Zuck took some time to visit the New Century Hotel, where he met Ruth Wilcox at the café.
Yusuf hadn’t shaved in days, so he looked rather haggard.
After they sat down, Ruth Wilcox looked at him with a face full of sympathy, while Yusuf remained silent for over ten minutes before he began to talk about Ember Vance.
He talked about how he met Ember Vance, her bravery when facing the gangsters, and that he had slept with her. He didn’t hide anything this time, telling her everything he should.
This was a kind of honesty because he wasn’t deceiving Ruth Wilcox anymore.
Ruth Wilcox listened quietly, listening to her lover, who had become haggard and despondent in just a few days, narrate his story with another woman.
She didn’t express any opinions, didn’t interrupt him, and didn’t get angry.
"That’s the situation, so I will be leaving for Guizhou tomorrow. After returning, I’ll need to make a trip to Japan. Ruth, I’m sorry." Yusuf had said all there was to be said, also giving Ruth Wilcox a choice: to give up and leave or to continue the relationship.
Ruth Wilcox gently twirled her hair and after quietly contemplating for a moment, she said, "In a person’s life, many mistakes are made, and some mistakes can be forgiven, while others cannot."
"You are a very special man and also one with strong convictions, so I believe you’ve already made your decision without me saying much."
"I won’t stop you from going to rescue someone, and I wish her a speedy recovery, so for now you do your thing, and I’ll do mine. When we’ve both stopped, let’s have a proper talk."
"Thank you for your honesty; it’s something I really admire about you, facing everything so openly."
Yusuf bowed his head in shame. He deeply loved Ruth Wilcox, but he loved Ember Vance just as deeply, so he told her the truth today. And he knew that Ruth, with her intelligence, must have guessed his actions over these past few days, right?
"Don’t be sad. I generally like men who take responsibility, and you do this quite well. For the woman you love, you are willing to go through fire and water!"
"You are a man who values loyalty. When Mia had trouble in Jakarta, I knew that loyalty was more important to you than anything else. I admire this quality in you, and I believe that if I were Ember Vance, you would also go through fire and water for me," Ruth suddenly said with a wistful smile.
Yusuf nodded and took a deep breath, realizing he didn’t need to say anything; he would give everything for Ruth Wilcox.
And Ruth had seen through him; he truly was a man who valued loyalty above all and would never let anyone down.
"Go, take care of what you need to, and don’t worry about me," Ruth said, looking at him. "Perhaps you don’t know, but sometimes I feel like you’re family, a very strange feeling. Seeing you in pain here makes my heart ache terribly, and the truth is, I should be angry, but I just can’t be. It’s because seeing you... seeing you like this, I’m not thinking about jealousy but hoping to make you happier!"
"Thank you," Yusuf said sincerely, looking at her.
"I don’t hope that after this incident, you’ll lose your sunshine and vitality. My work time is here; I’m heading upstairs, and you take care of your things," Ruth Wilcox stood up and said.
"I’ll sit here a bit longer; you go ahead."
"Alright, then I’m going upstairs first." Ruth gave him a deep look and then turned to leave the café, taking the elevator up.
And when she entered her office, she immediately locked the door from the inside, then crouched down, hugged her head, and wept bitterly.
The strong facade always remained in front of others, while the vulnerable side was always hidden away in the corner.
