To tell the truth, Ruth Wilcox’s phone call had saved Lucy Clayton’s life, because if she had a meeting with Yusuf Zuck at seven in the morning, Yusuf wouldn’t be able to come here after seven.

Yusuf had been somewhat hesitant, especially since through his interactions with Lucy, he had come to respect her. She had guts and bloodlust, making her a respectable opponent!

Yusuf himself carried an air of the Jianghu, but Lucy’s was even thicker.

Of course, letting Lucy off was not to say he had completely spared her. Before he left, he said that Lucy’s life was now his. He would continue to observe her.

When Yusuf walked out of the main villa building, the cheongsam-clad Ariel Higgins presented him with a cheque, on which was written the figure of one billion.

"Mr. Zuck, this is compensation from Boss Clayton for you and your brothers," Ariel said, holding the cheque out to Yusuf with both hands. "Boss Clayton said he will also check into Ditang Hospital tomorrow and will personally apologize to your brothers then!"

"Keep the money. Tell your Boss Clayton, I don’t need money and I don’t want to extort wealth from him. All I want is his life, so from today on, his life is mine – it’s just temporarily residing with him!" After saying this, Yusuf turned his car around and drove away.

He didn’t want the billion, because accepting the money would represent a compromise. Yusuf was not short of a billion, so he wanted a life, not money. This way, Lucy would always feel a sense of crisis.

Ariel bowed toward the direction in which Yusuf had left without any expression, then she turned and went back to the tower building.

"Boss, why do this? You’re in this state, and he’s still claiming your life. Are we really that scared of him?" Ariel couldn’t bear to see Lucy’s plight, having followed her for some years, she had never seen Lucy in such a sorry state.

For the first time, Lucy Clayton had backed down in front of someone!

"This isn’t fear. You don’t understand and don’t ask too much. Just know that from now on, there will be no animosity between him and me!" Lucy insisted.

"Why not?" Ariel couldn’t accept this.

"I’m not worthy to be his enemy. A person must know their own limits and understand their own weight, so don’t meddle in my affairs anymore," Lucy said.

Ariel took a deep breath and asked, "Alright then, what do you need me to do now? Should I sit here with you until dawn?"

"Arrange for me to go to Ditang Hospital. The pain is unbearable now," Lucy said, before starting to shiver, then collapsed at the edge of the hot spring pool, convulsing uncontrollably.

To lose an eye, how painful would that be? To have a severed hamstring, how much more painful? So, he had been enduring all along, but now, he couldn’t bear it any longer, the excruciating pain made him wish he could shoot himself again.

However, he had no resentment. His personality was actually the same as Yusuf’s – to lose was to lose, if the wrist couldn’t withstand the twist, that was his own lack of strength, and he couldn’t blame his opponent for being too strong.

"Quick, take Boss Clayton to the hospital, someone..." Ariel screamed, crying out of fear.

After Yusuf drove away from the villa, he immediately headed for Ruth Wilcox’s home. Ruth had arranged to meet him at New Century tomorrow morning, which suggested to him that she might have returned today. Why else would she schedule for early in the morning? So, he had to check it out.

Soon, before ten o’clock at night, he arrived at Ruth Wilcox’s home, but everything inside was as it had always been, showing no signs of anyone having come by—all was as usual.

Ruth hadn’t come back.

Yusuf sat down on the sofa to calm himself while puzzled about why Ruth had arranged their meeting at New Century, and why at seven in the morning? He couldn’t quite understand.

"Right, ask Mia." With a sudden inspiration, Yusuf immediately called Mia.

Mia was quick to pick up, and she answered the phone before it could ring a second time.

"I knew you would call, I won’t talk, I won’t say anything, I’m not saying anything at all." As soon as the call connected, Mia started yelling. This girl was smart; she always knew what was going on.

"What are you talking about? I’m just doing my routine check-in to see how you’re doing!" Yusuf Zuck chuckled.

"Yeah right, when has a weasel ever brought good news to a chicken? I’m actually feeling sad..." Mia said with a hint of grievance, "I don’t know how to face Ruth, I was terrified after seeing her yesterday. What should I do?"

"You’re scared because you’re hiding a ghost in your heart!" Yusuf cursed jokingly.

"And you’re not scared?" Mia retorted.

"What should I be afraid of?" Yusuf laughed, "I haven’t done anything wrong, have I? Even when Ruth was around, it was all about you teasing me and me teasing you, right? That’s why I’m not scared."

"Alright, alright, you’re not scared, but I am, happy now? I admit I have ghosts in my heart." Mia said with a cry in her voice, "But I just can’t drive them away."

"Well, that’s your problem, not mine." Yusuf continued to laugh. Luckily, he had his limits; if he really had done something with Mia, he wouldn’t have been able to face Ruth either.

"Hmph, just you wait until I win over Ruth, then we’ll see what you have to say!" Mia huffed.

"Win over Ruth? What do you mean?" Yusuf asked, puzzled.

"I mean, I’ll have a same-sex relationship with her, and then we’ll both marry you, haha, that’s what I call winning her over. Two women sharing one husband, isn’t that badass?"

"Can you not disgust me, please? I’m not into that dead lily stuff!"

"Enough talk, I’m off to take a bath and go to bed. I just bought something electric today, guess what it is?"

"An electric motor!" Yusuf blurted out without thinking.

"Get lost, you’re the most depraved of all. It’s an electric toothbrush, duh! I’m going to bed, of course, I need to brush my teeth. Yusuf, you have such a twisted mind!"

"It’s you who led me on, and now you blame me for being twisted?" Yusuf said, half-laughing, half-crying.

"Okay, okay, talking with you made me feel a lot better. Um, Ruth stopped over in Hong Kong yesterday, but she didn’t want me to pick her up at the airport. She must have been meeting someone. She only contacted me when she was about to leave, and we had a meal and coffee together."

"As for her, she’s had a falling out with the Clan. All her shares in the family business have been stripped away, mainly because of you. Her grandfather wanted her to be engaged to Lucy Clayton, but she disagreed, so she decided to return to the mainland. And when she brought up going back, all the aunts and uncles in the Clan insisted she relinquish her shares before leaving!"

"That’s how it is. She’s come back empty-handed, with less than two million in her account. She’s completely ready to throw herself into your arms."

"I have to admit, Ruth’s love for you is deep, and not many people can give up everything to come back like she has. So... so... if you have another woman besides me, that would be letting us down!"

"Come on, why do you have to drag yourself into everything?" Yusuf was speechless. The girl was really pushing herself onto him.

"I don’t care; if my dad won’t let me marry you, I’ll leave everything behind too. Can’t let Ruth show me up, can I?" Mia said triumphantly.

"When did Ruth fly to the capital city?" Yusuf abruptly asked.

"Last night, haven’t you two met yet? That’s not right; she should have arrived by now. Weren’t you at home? Or were you out messing around?" Mia interrogated loudly.

"Alright, go use your electric... Whatever. I’m hanging up." Yusuf liked teasing Mia, and she enjoyed teasing him back. If they didn’t spar over the phone, neither felt quite right.

After hanging up with Mia, Yusuf pulled up the unfamiliar number that Ruth Wilcox had called from earlier and dialed it.
