Chapter 304: Letting You Live One More Day
Chapter 304: Chapter 304: Letting You Live One More Day
Yusuf Zuck had heard a saying before: "Good people don’t live long, but troublemakers live a thousand years."
At this moment, the scene unfolding before his eyes seemed to truly confirm that old saying. Lucy Clayton had not died after five shots, with just a one-in-six chance of survival, yet the revolver miraculously did not fire.
Moreover, Lucy Clayton really didn’t cheat. Even after firing five shots, he truly aimed at his own temple, and he had prepared himself for death before pulling the trigger.
It was just... everything was so coincidental. Yusuf Zuck had felt a trace of compassion, and then he let fate decide his life or death, and fate finally favored him.
Honestly, watching the stupefied Lucy Clayton sitting there, Yusuf Zuck didn’t know what to do. He thought he was certain to die, and he hadn’t planned to spare him, yet there he was, still alive and well.
"Whew~" Lucy Clayton seemed to have recovered from the shock, took a deep breath, turned to face Yusuf Zuck, and said, "I didn’t die, what now? Do I need to take another shot?"
Having just walked back from the brink, life and death seemed trivial to him at this moment, for he had already died once.
"Heh, let’s leave it at that for today," Yusuf Zuck suddenly chuckled, reminding himself of his earlier words: if he survived five shots, the arm-wrestling would continue. So today, he would not make a move.
"Paisley, let’s go," Yusuf Zuck said, taking Paisley Kirk’s hand and striding past Lucy Clayton.
However, as he reached the door, he suddenly turned back: "Our business is not over. Just because I don’t kill you today doesn’t mean I won’t kill you tomorrow. Our feud continues, so congratulations, you get to live another day. Enjoy it and make arrangements, we’ll meet again tomorrow!"
"I understand, thank you," Lucy Clayton nodded. He could feel that Yusuf Zuck was out for his life, so he knew that although he had escaped death today, it might not be the case in the future.
"Also, Paisley’s body is not for everyone to see," Yusuf Zuck said coldly before turning and walking out of the hot spring pool.
"Yusuf, I... he... I..." At this point, Paisley Kirk didn’t know what to say. She wanted to tell Yusuf Zuck that she undressed in front of others to save him.
"I know, he won’t survive, and I don’t intend to let him go. But for today, let’s leave it at that. I made a promise before, and I intend to keep it. Besides, Lucy Clayton deserves respect as an opponent. The courage to fire five shots at one’s own temple is not something just anyone can muster!"
"I meant to say, when I undressed before, I wasn’t..." Paisley Kirk, flushed and flustered, didn’t know how to explain herself to Yusuf Zuck.
"I know, I heard your conversation. You did it for me, thank you," Yusuf Zuck said, leading her away, swaggering out of the villa and climbing into the pickup truck.
"But... but... the dead people there..." When Paisley Kirk mentioned the dead, she turned pale; Yusuf Zuck had been truly ruthless—those were twelve living beings.
"We don’t have to worry about it; I want to see if he will call the police, heh," Yusuf Zuck was curious to see how Lucy Clayton would deal with the corpses in the villa.
If he were to call the police, then Lucy Clayton would have to die tonight; Yusuf Zuck would definitely not let him go.
Yusuf Zuck’s car sped away, leaving Lucy Clayton sitting silently by the hot spring pool, staring at the bodies of his dozen or so men in a daze.
At nine o’clock in the morning, Yusuf Zuck dropped Paisley Kirk off at his place, telling her to stay there without going anywhere else, before he headed to the hospital.
Upon reaching the hospital, good news followed: Floyd Hart was tough to kill and had woken up.
When Floyd Hart awoke, Yusuf Zuck breathed a sigh of relief, because if Floyd Hart had died, he would be at fault, owing not only to Floyd Hart but also to Floyd Hart’s parents.
Fortunately, Floyd Hart pulled through.
Yusuf Zuck also saw that Samuel Ross and Wei Mao were injured but not seriously; they had only sustained external injuries. Zhu Zi, Uriel Arellano, and Grey Petty were all unharmed, so they were jumping around energetically.
After this incident, Yusuf Zuck realized that when handling matters, one must not drag one’s feet. Regarding feuds like the one with Lucy Clayton, it was best to settle them sooner rather than later.
He had spent the whole morning at the hospital, and at noon, he drove away with Louise Garrett.
No police had come knocking, which meant Lucy Clayton hadn’t called the cops.
Also, before he left the villa, he had Anais Dillon and Isaac Quintana continue to keep an eye on Lucy Clayton.
After taking Louise Garrett home to be with Paisley Kirk, Yusuf Zuck went to the bank, withdrew two million in cash, put it in the car, and at that time, Jerome Hart called, saying he had arrived in the capital and was staying at Master Zuck’s place in Fragrant Hills.
He didn’t want to stay there, but Faye Webb disagreed, so he had to settle in, especially since he was injured and had trouble moving around.
Yusuf Zuck didn’t go to see him; as long as Jerome Hart was alive, that was enough.
At three o’clock in the afternoon on the thirty-first, Yusuf returned to the roundabout road outside the Fifth Ring and met Anais Dillon and Isaac Quintana.
"One million each, as I promised before. Take it." He took out two paper bags from the trunk and tossed them casually to Anais Dillon and Isaac Quintana before continuing, "What’s the situation with Lucy Clayton?"
Anais Dillon shook his head: "Hasn’t come out, but about an hour after you left, three cars went in one after another. Then two more at noon, and just now another two, one of which was an ambulance. All the other cars had a lot of people in them!"
"Heh, moving the troops, huh?" Yusuf laughed. With so many cars heading to the villa, it seemed Lucy Clayton was indeed moving the troops. As for the ambulance going in as well, it was likely for treating Lucy’s leg.
"Keep an eye on Lucy Clayton for me, and absolutely don’t let him escape. Also, give it a couple of days for things to settle down here, and I’ll have a proper talk with you two!"
"Stop freelancing. Work for me, and I guarantee you’ll make over ten million a year, maybe even more. So think it over. I’m off, see you later." Yusuf left Anais Dillon and Isaac Quintana pondering and drove away.
Ember Vance called, laughing and asking if Yusuf had slept well last night and whether he needed her to soothe him again this evening.
Yusuf knew that Ember Vance had been frantic the day before and that she likely had a hand in supporting him from behind.
"Not tonight, I might be busy for a while these next few days. There are some people, some things I need to handle." Yusuf really wasn’t in the mood for that, with too many other things on his plate.
"Hehe, just teasing you. Let me tell you some good news, the boss of New Era Film has dropped the charges, saying it was a misunderstanding. He just left from here. I was thinking about detaining him for a few days, but since he withdrew the case against you and seemed to know better, I let him off the hook," she said.
"Oh, the case was dropped." Yusuf laughed. What was Lucy Clayton playing at?
After hanging up with Ember Vance, Uriel Arellano from the police station called, claiming that the two thugs in the hospital had changed their statement. It was their fault; they had provoked Yusuf, and it wasn’t Yusuf who broke their fingers, but an accident. Their exploded bladders were also due to holding in urine too long; in essence, Yusuf wasn’t involved—it was a false accusation.
Around seven in the evening, while Yusuf was at home with Paisley Kirk, he suddenly received a call from her.
Seeing the caller ID, Yusuf was stunned because Paisley Kirk was sitting right beside him. But it seemed Paisley’s phone had been left at the Wengquan Villa.
Confused, he answered the call, and then heard Lucy Clayton’s weak voice.
"Yusuf, where are you? I need to see you." Lucy Clayton seemed to have little energy, hardly the robust figure from the morning.
"Name a place, and I’ll come to you," Yusuf thought for a moment. Lucy was probably gathering a large group of people for another showdown.
"Then let’s stick with the villa, sorry to trouble you to make another trip," Lucy chuckled.
"Fine, I’ll be right there. Wait for me," Yusuf narrowed his eyes. Tonight would be the final showdown with Lucy Clayton.
