Chapter 267: Chapter 267: The Real Asset Tycoon
Yusuf Zuck did not refuse, and he did not say anything while in the study of the Petty family patriarch. Meanwhile, Marlon Shepherd began to handle the relevant legal proceedings with the three attorneys of the Petty family.
At two o’clock in the afternoon, Yusuf Zuck, Marlon Shepherd, and Mia left the Petty Family Mansion. Alvin Petty personally took on the role of driver to take the two back to the hotel.
During their time at the villa, the patriarch of the Petty family and Yusuf Zuck had concluded their negotiations. There would still be a wait for cooperation matters, as they had to be thoroughly prepared to ensure absolute success. Once they were ready, he would immediately call Yusuf Zuck.
Yusuf Zuck could return to the Mainland or continue his leisure time in Hong Kong.
As for the properties that the Petty family transferred to him, Yusuf Zuck could manage the winery on Queen’s Road East himself. With a fifty-one percent shareholding in the New Century Hotel in the capital of the Mainland, Yusuf Zuck would become the primary shareholder. The Petty family hoped that Yusuf Zuck would soon send over the relevant management personnel.
Of course, the Petty family could also continue to act as the managing agent. It was all up to Yusuf Zuck to decide.
Regarding the stocks in HSBC and Hang Seng Bank, don’t be deceived by the small percentages, one being just over zero point something and the other just over one point something, those points amount to dividends of over a billion each year.
Finally, there’s the house in Stanley. This house has dedicated domestic management, so Yusuf Zuck could visit and stay there any time as it regularly undergoes cleaning and maintenance.
Yusuf Zuck remained silent as usual. He needed to digest this vast wealth that had just been transferred to his name.
Moreover, having accepted this enormous gift from the Petty family, he was now tied to their fate. The survival of the Petty family was also of concern to him; he had to assist them—it was not an option.
"Mia, you go have fun by yourself; I have something to discuss with Marlon!" After returning to the presidential suite of the hotel, Yusuf Zuck gave Mia a look, indicating that he wanted to speak with Marlon Shepherd in private.
Mia did not know that just by making a round at the Petty family and having a meal, Yusuf Zuck had acquired a fortune close to two billion. However, she was obedient and went to the adjacent room to watch TV.
"Big boss, can you tell me what your cooperation with the Petty family is about? Do you know? The previous five gifts, if liquidated, wouldn’t be less than thirty billion!"
"Thirty billion is that much?" Yusuf Zuck was greatly startled, as he had estimated around ten billion or so, but Marlon Shepherd mentioned it was nothing less than thirty billion.
Marlon Shepherd just shook his head, "Let’s not talk about other things. The shares in those two banks, others couldn’t buy them even with money. And both of those banks have market values surpassing a hundred billion. You do the math on how much your shareholding is worth."
"And the New Century Hotel in the capital—I know about that one. It is invested in by Hong Kong investors and is quite famous in the capital. So it really freaked me out that the Petty family gave all that to you."
"Heh, what the cooperation entails—you don’t need to know too much. Essentially, I’ve entrusted my life to the Petty family; there’s always a risk to my life and such."
"Honestly, no amount of money is more important than life. And now, billions or tens of billions—I don’t even feel that anymore."
"Well... I don’t understand the world of the wealthy, but the Petty family has deep roots. It’s the Petty family from the Yongle era..." Marlon Shepherd took a deep breath as he spoke.
"Do you know how much the total assets of the Yongle era are worth?" Yusuf Zuck asked curiously.
"I don’t know the specifics, but from what I’ve heard, they must be several hundred billion, so the bit they gave you is just a small fraction."
"Several hundred billion, that much? No way?" Yusuf Zuck was again startled.
"You might not understand the capital market!" Marlon Shepherd pondered for a moment before continuing, "What you know, like the so-called richest men and industrial figures, those are all visible on the surface and are public companies. The asset values of public companies can be calculated by some departments. But there are also many companies in the world that never go public."
"As far as I know, many companies under the largest family, the Ross Family, never go public and strictly prohibit their descendants from engaging in IPOs. Their assets are probably in the trillions, affecting the global market economy."
"There are also domestic examples like Parker, Fuyou, and so forth, none of which are publicly listed companies, and their assets are also hidden from the public eye."
"Then there are the red capitalists; I won’t need to elaborate, but you understand. Those who control oil, coal, hydroelectricity, rare minerals, and other major sectors, they are also not listed. The true assets of these non-public companies are astronomical figures."
"What’s going public? It’s about financing, pooling funds from all aspects to expand a business. Yet, some people don’t need financing!"
"Many assume Superman Li is amazing, constantly topping the list of the richest. Since he made his fortune through real estate, surely he built many of Hong Kong’s buildings, right? Maybe he could build at most ten or twenty percent of them, but who holds the market share for the remaining eighty percent? Why haven’t we heard of them? This suggests that many financial tycoons are operating behind the scenes."
"I understand now. In recent years, the country’s crackdown on corruption has exposed family assets in the hundreds of billions for these fallen officials, which people weren’t aware of before."
"Exactly, that’s the idea. Truly wealthy people don’t want the outside world to know how rich they are."
"Maybe you find it frightening to suddenly be given tens of billions in assets, but for them, it is just a bit of spare change they are handing out."
"So now that we’ve accepted these assets, what should we do next?" Yusuf Zuck asked.
"You don’t need to do anything, including managing the winery. Let them handle it for the time being. It’s not too late to take over after our team expands and some personnel arrive. As the big boss, you basically just travel every day and let the managers take care of everything. What’s worst in business is when someone who knows nothing about it starts giving orders!"
"Are you afraid that I’ll mess things up with my orders?" Yusuf Zuck burst into laughter.
"Yes, I am. I’m afraid you’ll just give arbitrary orders. Once a business grows large, it should be left to a professional team to manage and operate, and then you just need to check how much money is being deposited into your bank account every day."
"Also, you must draft a temporary will as soon as possible."
"Drafting a will at twenty-one..." Yusuf Zuck was speechless; he was only twenty-one after all.
"There’s no choice, some of the ventures you are involved in are too dangerous, so you have to be prepared."
"There’s not much to draft, really. Help me draft it. All my assets should go to my sister alone for inheritance."
"Doesn’t that include your father?" Marlon Shepherd asked, taken aback.
"It does not include him. If my sister has enough to eat, she won’t treat my dad unfairly, so it all goes to my sister!"
"How about your women? Don’t they get anything?" Marlon Shepherd asked curiously.
Yusuf Zuck shook his head, "I’ll make sure to give them as much as possible while I’m alive. So even if I die, there will be cash in their bank accounts, more than enough to last a lifetime!"
"Them? Looks like you have many girlfriends, haha!" Marlon Shepherd laughed heartily.
Yusuf Zuck couldn’t help but feel wistful; actually, up to this point, Miles O’brien, Ember Vance, and Ruth Wilcox were the only ones considered as his girlfriends, the others were not!
