Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Traces of the Enemy
November 13th, Indonesia, Jakarta, Bay Area, a certain coconut grove.
Since reaching the coconut grove on the opposite side required a ferry crossing and it was now deep into the night, the ferry had long since ceased operation.
After arriving at the location, Yusuf Zuck and Fleur Carson did not rush to cross the river but found a deserted spot to load their bullets. Both had three magazines, and as Fleur pushed the bullets into the magazines, she also explained the simple operation to Yusuf.
"If we try to ferry across, it’s almost certain that the other side will detect us immediately, and they will definitely spot us if they are over there. That means there must be a hidden sentry along the riverbank," Fleur said, looking at the dark expanse of the coconut grove: "Moreover, the enemy has strong firepower, so the two of us should split up and act independently, relying on our own skills."
"You don’t need to go over; you just need to provide cover for me!" Yusuf suddenly interrupted her.
"You want me to provide cover, but not to cross?" Fleur shook her head in disbelief: "You’ve never even fired a gun before. How can I let you go alone? I should be with you; that might offer a glimmer of hope."
"No, I’m going alone," Yusuf said, looking at Fleur: "We may be brothers, but I can’t jump into a fire pit and drag you with me. Besides, I can come out alive, but if you go, you may not be so lucky!"
"Are you underestimating me?" Fleur frowned.
"It’s not that I’m underestimating you, it’s just that it’s inconvenient for the two of us to go. My goal is to rescue, not to court death. And after I rescue them, I will have to carry someone out. How can I cross the river if you’re not here to cover me?"
But before Fleur could speak, Yusuf, who was squatting in front of her, suddenly disappeared, vanishing right before her eyes.
In a daze, Fleur thought she might be dreaming, asleep, or hallucinating, because Yusuf truly vanished without a trace right before her eyes.
"Now you know how I got from the capital to Jakarta, right? Can you see me?" Yusuf’s voice emerged beside Fleur’s ear!
"I... damn... am I losing my mind? Yusuf, are you a human or a ghost..." Fleur’s hands trembled, her body shaking. Yusuf had disappeared, he had become invisible; she found the sight too surreal!
"Heh, if I go invisible, who could see me?" Yusuf chuckled as he touched Fleur’s face, causing her body to break out in goosebumps.
"The enemy can’t see me, but I can see them. So I can walk right up to the enemy, one shot each. And so what if there are a hundred of them?"
"Stop touching me, dammit, I’m about to piss myself, I’m scared," Fleur said, swallowing hard.
"That’s why you just need to provide cover for me. This is my secret, and aside from you, no one in the world knows it. So, please keep this secret for me!"
"Not keeping it, I’m going to report you. I’m going to have you sent to a lab to be a guinea pig!" Fleur protested.
"Stop wasting time. My invisibility has a time limit. Get me across the river now. And once I’m over there, don’t worry about me, just wait here for me!" With a running start, Yusuf jumped down like the wind, because there was an empty ferry boat on the riverbank below.
Fleur looked at the ferry boat, which jostled and made noises, but Yusuf’s figure was nowhere to be seen.
Being an assassin by trade, she quickly calmed herself and inhaled deeply; she had always known Yusuf was no ordinary man, but she never expected him to be capable of turning invisible! A man who could turn invisible—dammit, not just Blue Falcon but even the U.S. White House wouldn’t stand a chance!
No longer hesitating, this time she would only play the role of a ferryman, just someone to provide assistance.
Yusuf was skilled in martial arts, could turn invisible, and had ammunition at hand, so she stopped worrying about his safety. If even Yusuf couldn’t rescue them with all that, he might as well just find a tofu block to crash into and die.
"Giggle, giggle giggle~" Fleur Carson seemed bewitched as she foolishly burst into laughter as if anchored in place.
"What are you laughing at?" Yusuf Zuck’s voice appeared by his ear.
"With such badass special abilities, you should totally rule the world with me, boss!" Fleur Carson said wildly.
"You’re crazy!" Yusuf Zuck couldn’t be bothered to respond to him, dismissing the idea as lunacy.
"Heh, wait till you rescue your Mia, then we’ll plot properly. With the badass powers you have, shouldn’t we do something big? And you’re still cooped up in the small Ruiz Family estate flipping antiques? Are you sick or something?"
"Do something big?" Yusuf Zuck asked.
"World Bank, Swiss Bank, Bank of England—all the banks in the world, let’s rob them, let’s steal from them, then you’ll be the richest, right?"
"Stop right there, I want to live a bit longer, and another thing, I’m serious, about my invisibility—you can’t tell a soul, not even if you get married and have a son!"
"I get it, I get it, I know when to keep my mouth shut, how could I let that slip?" Fleur Carson said impatiently.
"We’re here, I’m off, stay safe and wait here for me!" The river was only about twenty-some meters across, so in the time taken for their conversation, Fleur Carson had already rowed the boat to the opposite shore. Moreover, someone on the starting shore had begun shining a flashlight and shouting something over in this direction—it was clear the boat’s owner had come out.
After a moment of commotion, the ferry quieted down, and Fleur Carson turned the boat around to head back to the other shore. He needed to placate the boat owner, else they might call the police.
Meanwhile, having reached the shore, Yusuf Zuck swiftly ran along a small forest path. Of course, his telekinetic power created a Thought Overlay within a fifteen-meter radius, within which every rustle of wind and bend of grass was laid bare in his mind.
No one was there—within fifteen meters there was no one, which is why he dashed so quickly. Also, his three-minute invisibility effect was about to expire.
He couldn’t keep being invisible continuously without finding Mia first. So after this first invisibility expired, he’d have to rely on his own talents to push deeper into the coconut grove.
Only after locating the Blue Falcon Mercenary Group and confirming their position would he choose another moment to become invisible again, considering the time limit on his ability. He couldn’t remain invisible indefinitely.
"Hmm?" Just as his three-minute invisibility was about to run out, and he had run about fifty meters into the coconut grove, suddenly his telekinesis caught sight of a person using night-vision binoculars, watching toward the river.
The person wasn’t hiding but was standing on an elevated platform of a wooden house built among several coconut trees and suspended in mid-air.
This kind of house was presumably meant as a resting place for visitors, but now it’d been taken over at night by the very Blue Falcon Mercenary Group that Yusuf Zuck was looking for.
Because Yusuf Zuck was invisible, the person did not see him, although he was already less than fifteen meters away, just to his right.
Yusuf Zuck quickly took cover behind a coconut tree, using telekinesis to closely observe the person.
A Caucasian man dressed in beige camouflage with tall boots, a pistol on his waist, a Long Spear gun propped at his feet, and a military knife attached to his boots.
Yusuf Zuck’s telekinesis thoroughly scanned the man, every bullet on him materializing in his mind.
"Mia, hold on, I’m coming for you." Yusuf Zuck didn’t make his move, knowing it would only startle the enemy, so he continued forward cautiously, bending low.
